Friends long gone
[Spoiler for the bad ending of Omori. Also Trigger warning for mentions of suicide and possibly graphic imagery.]
Aubrey sat in her bed, staring at the holes in her ceiling. It didn't feel real to Aubrey. The events of yesterday were playing in Aubrey's head. She remembered all the details vividly.
She, Kel, and Hero were walking between Sunny and Basil's rooms hoping one of them would wake up and explain what the hell happened last night. She was feeling extremely guilty over the whole thing. Her mind was replaying all the mean names and physical confrontations she had with both Basil and Sunny, especially over the past 3 days.
Aubrey and the brothers walked into Basil's room for the third time today. Aubrey walked up to Basil resting in his bed. Basil's face was bruised badly. Sunny really did a number on him despite his too skinny to be healthy stature. 'Nothing compared to what you did to him'
Eventually, while standing by Basil's bed, she saw him stir and awake. As soon as she recognized he was conscious she kept spewing endless apologies. Basil was unfazed by this as he began looking around the room wildly. Basil frantically asked where Sunny was. Hero assured Basil that he's sound asleep in his room. Basil was not convinced and demanded to see Sunny.
They escorted Basil to Sunny's room while Kel tried his best to lift Basil's spirit. They reached Sunny's room and opened the door. There they saw Sunny's bed... empty.
Everyone started to panic. Basil was freaking out as Kel tried to calm him down. Hero insisted Aubrey and him look for Sunny, while Kel stays and calms Basil down. She bolted out of the room barely understanding what Hero had said. Aubrey rushed down the stairs as her mind was racing. 'Why did Sunny just get up and walk off? He must just be getting fresh air." Aubrey reasoned.
Aubrey reached the first floor and headed to the front doors. She saw a group of people gathered outside. She pushed through the crowd in an attempt to find Sunny. When she reached the middle she saw something terrifying.
Sunny was sprawled out in the middle of the street. Blood pooled around him and seeped into the asphalt. His limbs were twisted in ways that didn't seem possible. A bone was protruding through one of his knees. The sight made Aubrey almost vomit. Sunny's neck was snapped and his only remaining eye was staring directly at Aubrey.
Aubrey grabbed her hair as she remembered the gruesome sight. She can't get the image of Sunny's body being twisted out of her head. It was late at night so Aubrey tried to fall asleep to try and forget about everything, even if for just a few hours. She closed her eyes and layed there trying to get to her dreams as fast as possible.
Aubrey's eyes fluttered open and she began to take in her surroundings. She was in the Faraway park, but everything had a soft white glow. She saw a familiar figure in the distance. She approached it and when it was in sight she recognized the figure as Mari. She was carrying a sleepy Sunny on her back. It hurt Aubrey to see them so full of life.
Aubrey called out to Mari. Mari turned around and looked at Aubrey with her signature smile. "Hey Aubrey, it's a bit late and Sunny is pretty tired so we should go home." Aubrey looked solemnly at Mari as tears began to leak from her eyes. " Aww, don't worry Aubrey, we can always play tomorrow. Me and Sunny aren't going anywhere, we'll always be right here." Mari put a hand on Aubrey's shoulder. It had none of the warmth Mari's affection always had.
Mari turned around and continued walking. Aubrey ran to catch up to her. Aubrey put her hand out to touch her but once she did Mari and Sunny slowly faded from sight. Aubrey fell to her knees as she began to cry.
Aubrey woke up and tried to dry the tears, but more just kept coming. She curled up on her bed as she cried. Somehow despite everything she found a way to be even more empty.
