CHAPTER ELEVEN

(sammi's outfit for this chapter)

Sammi couldn't believe that senior prom for Alexa and Katie was tonight. She still couldn't believe they're seniors. It felt like they were growing up too fast. After talking with Alexa, she found out that Alexa was going with Spencer, but Katie still doesn't have a date. Alexa had told her how she kept trying to get Katie to ask Aiden, her coworker at Wired, but Katie kept avoiding with asking him. From what she heard from Alexa about Aiden and Katie it sounded like the two were perfect for each other so she's a bit upset they aren't going to prom together. She just hoped that Katie would still have a great time without a date.

Game night was also tonight, but Lucas and Sammi weren't joining. Lucas had gotten a gig at Sammi's aunt and uncle's café so they couldn't join game night. "Oh, wait, I thought you guys were joining us tonight." Lori said, looking at the couple with confusion.

"Oh. Yeah." Lucas said in realization. Sammi chuckles, rolling her eyes. She figured he forgot to tell his parents about the gig. "Then I realized I didn't wanna do that." Lucas adds. Lori rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. Lucas smiles. "I'm playing a gig downtown at C.C Cafe."

"Oh," Lori's face lights up as she points at Sammie. "At your aunt's and uncle's cafe?" Sammi smiles widely and nods in response. Lori grins at Lucas. "Lucas, that's awesome."

"Yeah, my Aunt Cadence and Uncle Colton needed a gig tonight and asked Lucas if he was available." Sammi explained.

"They're paying me too which is even better than what I expected." Lucas grins. "'Cause most gigs I've been getting don't pay me." He admitted and Sammi patted his shoulder to comfort him.

"Well, have fun tonight, guys." Lori smiled at the couple and walked over to the door when the doorbell rang as the couple walked into the kitchen.

Lori opened the door and Spencer walked in, dressed in suit and red tie with a smile on his face. Sammi smiled softly and chimed in with Lori and Jennifer with saying 'awe'. Jack, who was on his phone in the living room, mockingly said 'awe' as well. Sammi looked at him with amusement and chuckled.

Spencer chuckles and closes the door behind him. "Thank you."

Then Alexa and Katie walk down the steps, looking beautiful just like they always are. While Alexa went with a red dress, Katie was wearing a light blue dress. Dave had joined Lori and Jennifer and along with Sammi the four of them all smiled and said 'awe'. Once again, Jack mockingly said 'awe', still not paying attention to what was happening.

Spencer looks at Alexa in awe. "Wow, you look incredible."

Alexa smiles as Spencer puts on the corsage around her wrist. "Thank you. So do you."

Sammi walks over to stand by the adults along with Lucas, holding hands with him while they walked, and she tilted her head to the side when she heard a honk of a car horn. She didn't know that someone was picking Alexa, Katie, and Spencer up.

Alexa squeals. "Oh, it's here!" She faces Katie with an excited smile. "We got a limo."

Katie smiles widely. "What?" She drags out the word, picking up her dress to walk over to the small window by the door to peak out. She gasps, turning to face everyone with excitement. "It's so shiny and stretchy."

Alexa giggles. "I just wanted you to be surprised. It's so hard keeping something from the person you share everything with."

When Sammi notices Katie acting strange all of a sudden, she was starting to wonder if she was keeping something from Alexa. Katie is quiet for a few moments before she inhales sharply and smiles nervously. "It really is."

"Sammi and I will catch a ride with you guys." Lucas spoke up, walking over to join them at the door and Sammi, of course, followed him since they were holding hands.

Sammi furrows her eyebrows. "Wait, babe, we don't go the same way they're going."

"Yeah, I know, but we don't mind." Lucas shrugged with a grin on his face, gently tugging her along with him outside after Spencer had opened the door.

Sammi chuckles lightly, smiling sheepishly at the others. "Sorry you guys," She apologizes when she walks past them. "Guess we're joining you."

"It's fine, Sam." Alexa reassured her with a small smile.

Sammi had to admit she was excited she was able to ride in the limo. She had never been in a limo before and it was everything she thought it would be. She looked at Lucas with amusement when he opened the sunroof.

"Lucas, what are you doing?" She asked him.

"You'll see." Lucas grinned at her. He stood on one of the seats to be able to out the sunroof.

Spencer joins the couple in the limo by this point, glancing at Sammi with confusion when he saw what Lucas was doing. "What is he doing?"

"No idea." Sammi shook her head.

Lucas began to play air guitar with a grin on his face. "Sunroof!" He exclaimed, dragging out the word he said.

Sammi and Spencer laughed, watching Lucas with amusement. "Why am I not surprised you did that?" Sammi wondered out loud.

After dropping off the teens at the school, the limo driver was kind enough to drop off Sammi and Lucas at C.C. Café despite it being in the other direction. "Sammi, Lucas, you made it!" Cadence exclaimed, smiling widely when she noticed the couple walk in.

"Yeah, sorry if we're late." Sammi apologizes, walking over to the front counter with Lucas. "We got a ride with Alexa, Katie, and Spencer in the limo they were taking to prom which was in the other direction."

"Oh," Colton drags out the word, nodding to himself as he walks over to stand by his wife behind the counter. "So that's why I saw a limo." He smiles at the couple. "Don't worry, you guys aren't late. It's actually perfect timing. The band just got ready." At C.C. Cafe if you were a solo singer and wanted a full band but didn't have one there was always a band willing to play with you. Lucas had already practiced with the band a few days before this gig so they all were prepared for it.

"Okay, great." Lucas grins. "I'll go get set up."

"Good luck, honey." Sammi smiled softly at him and pulled him in for a good luck kiss.

Even though they have been together for a few months now every kiss they shared still gave Lucas butterflies and for Sammi those kisses always made her heart flutter. "Thanks, Samshine." Lucas smiled lovingly at her, kissing her on the cheek before he walked away.

A shy smile forms on Sammi's face and she feels her face heat upon seeing her aunt and uncle smiling at her. "You two are adorable." Cadence complimented.

"Yeah, we're so happy for you." Colton chimed in.

Cadence nods in agreement. "It seemed like Lucas is a great guy."

"He is." Sammi smiles. "And thank you. I'm happy for me too." She glances throughout the café, searching for her boyfriend, her smile widening upon seeing he was talking with his old bandmates. She knew that they all have been singing together again and she was happy and proud of them for getting this gig.

Lucas glances over at her as if he felt her looking at him. He smiles softly at her and Sammi returns the smile. She looks at her aunt and uncle with a smile, ignoring the butterflies swarming in her stomach because of how cute Lucas is. "I never once thought I would be dating Lucas, but I'm glad I am."

Meanwhile, Lucas met up with his old bandmates, Cameron and Steve. Originally, Cameron and Steve had just joined Lucas's band because they wanted to be in a band. They didn't like his songs at the time and they were just feeding his ego. Part of that though was Lucas' fault because he let it all go to his head. But some years have gone by and they decided to meet up and be friends again.

They have hung out before this gig and during that time they covered some songs and even wrote some of their own songs. They decided they loved singing together and so they formed a band again. This was their first ever gig at a place that wasn't a birthday party at Lucas' house, meaning they all were really excited but also nervous.

"Hey, guys." Lucas greets them. "You ready for this?

"Oh yeah." Steve grins. "We're happy to be here."

"And we're getting paid here which is also a bonus." Cameron added.

Lucas chuckles. "Yeah, I agree."

"Does Sammi know the first song we're singing?" Cameron asked him.

Lucas glances over at Sammi, smiling softly as she looks at him. She returns the smile before she looks back at her aunt and uncle, continuing to talk with them. "Not really." Lucas shakes her head. "She knows I've written a song for her, but she doesn't know what it is." He cringes. "Well, she knows part of the chorus 'cause I was humming that part and I didn't realize she could hear me."

"Well, then it should still be a surprise to her." Steve pats his shoulder, smiling reassuringly at him. "Doing worry. Everything will be fine."

"Yeah," Cameron smiles. "I'm sure she'll love it."

"Thanks, guys." Lucas smiles, feeling a bit more relaxed. He takes a deep breath. "Okay, you both ready?"

Cameron and Steve exchanges a grin before they both look at Lucas with a grin. "Of course we are." Steve replies. "What kind of question is that?"

"Okay," Lucas laughs. "Let's do this." The three boys walked on stage and after checking in with the band to make sure they were ready they let Cadence and Colton know they were ready to perform.

"Alright, guys," Colton speaks into a microphone that's connected to speakers throughout the busy café. "Give it up for the band Everlasting!"

Applause and cheers fill the room and the boys smile at everyone. "Hi, everyone." Lucas greets. "We're Everlasting and we hope you enjoy our songs. This first one is called 'Hurricane' and I would like to dedicate this song to my lovely girlfriend, Sammi." He pointed at Sammi with a loving smile on his face. Sammi ignored her face heating up as everyone said 'awe' and she smiled widely at Lucas.

Lucas looks back at the band, nodding at them with a smile on his face, letting them know they could start. The band starts playing the song, and Steve, the only one of the trio who can play an instrument, starts playing his acoustic guitar.

After the first song, the boys played a couple other songs that they had written and soon enough they were done performing. When they were done, the room erupts with cheers and applause for the band with Sammi obviously being the loudest one. The boys smile widely at everyone, all proud of having a successful performance. "Thank you!" Lucas exclaims. "We're the band Everlasting!"

"Don't forget to tell your friends about us!" Cameron added.

Soon the cheers and applause dies down as Colton walks on stage, smiling at the three boys. "Great job, boys!" He comments and the three boys smile back at him. He looks out at the crowd with a smile, gesturing to the three boys who were getting off stage. "That was the great up and coming band, Everlasting! The last band of the night will be playing in twenty minutes."

After high fiving the boys, Lucas excuses himself and goes over to his girlfriend, who had a proud smile on her face. He grins at her, pulling her in for a hug. He then picks her up and twirls around, his grin growing when he heard her giggle. "Lucas! That was amazing!" She compliments while he set her on the ground. "I'm really proud of you for how far you've come with your music."

"Thank you, Samshine." Lucas smiles softly. "That means a lot coming from you."

"And the fact that you dedicated that song to me?" Sammi said, feeling her face heat up and she smiles lovingly at him. "I can't even describe how sweet that is. Thank you."

"Well, I didn't just dedicate it to you." Lucas brings his gaze to the ground, suddenly growing shy and Sammi swore she saw blush on his face. "I wrote it about you too."

Sammi's heart flutters upon hearing that and her smile widens. She reaches a hand up to cup his chin, making him look at her. "Thank you, Lucas. You're the best and I love you." Before Lucas could process the fact she just said the 'l' word to him for the first time, she had closed her eyes, leaning in to kiss him.

Lucas, of course, kisses her back, pulling her closer to him. During the kiss, Sammi had moved her arms so they were wrapped around his neck. They both pull apart from the kiss a few seconds later, smiling widely at each other and looking at each other with nothing but love and adoration for each other. "You just said you love me." Lucas grinned.

"Yeah, I did." Sammi chuckles lightly. She grimaces. "Wait, did I say it too early?" She frowns and begins to ramble nervously, unwrapping her arms from around his neck and taking a step away from him. "I'm sorry. If I said it too early you don't have to say it back. Or we can just forget that ever happen-"

Lucas grabs the belt loops of her jeans to pull her closer and interrupts her rambling with a sweet kiss. Pulling away, he ignores the butterflies dancing in his stomach and the way his face was heating up as he smiles softly at her. "I love you too."

Relieved, Sammi smiles widely. "Okay, good." She sheepishly smiles. "I would've panicked if you didn't."

"Well, you won't have to panic 'cause I love you," Lucas reassures her. He chuckles, shaking his head, and his smile widen. His cheeks were beginning to hurt from smiling so much but he didn't care. "And wow it feels so good to say that."

Sammi giggled and pulled him in for a tight hug, wondering how she got so lucky with him.

****

Getting a ride home was a bit difficult since neither one had a car, but thankfully Sammi's Aunt Cadence had some time to give them a ride home, after Lucas had gotten paid, of course. Sammi's aunt and uncle even let Lucas take something from the lost and found no one had picked up for months. They explained they were just going to throw the water bottle away, but after Lucas said he thought it looked cool they let him have it.

"Hey." Lucas greeted everyone as he and Sammi walk inside by using the back door that led to the kitchen.

"Hi, guys." Sammi smiled, waving at Dave and Jennifer, who were standing at the kitchen island. When she heard arguing, she furrows her eyebrows and glances at the living room. She chuckles lightly upon seeing Joe and Lori arguing and it sounded like they were arguing about who won game night. Joe didn't seem like the kind of guy to be competitive but Sammi assumed he was if he was arguing with Lori about who's the winner of game night.

"Oh," Lucas grins. "My gig went great. The crowd loved me and my band." He sets the water bottle he got on the kitchen island. "And check out this lost and found swag."

"Sweet." Dave commented, but it was clear by his expression he didn't care about what Lucas got from the lost and found.

Sammi chuckles at Dave's reaction and she links her arm through Lucas' arm, glancing over at Lori and Joe. "Let me guess," She tilts her head to the side, looking at Dave and Jennifer. "They're arguing over who won game night?"

"Yep." Jennifer sighs heavily, pouring more wine in her glass. "They've been arguing for awhile. And bad news, Sammi," She frowns at the brunnette-haired girl standing between her and Lucas. "Joe's a woo-er and libra's aren't supposed to be woo-ers."

Sammi sympathetically smiles at her. "Awe, I'm sorry, Jennifer."

Lucas leans one arm on the kitchen island, looking at his mom and Joe curiously. "So, who won?"

Sammi looks at Lori and joe along with Dave and Jennifer to see they were looking at the rules of the game the played. "It's hard to tell." Sammi commented and Dave and Jennifer nodded in agreement.

"You know what, can we just get an official ruling?" Lori questioned, glancing at Jack, who sat on a chair beside where she and Joe stood.

"Looks like I won for bailing on this." Lucas said, looking at the water bottle. He smirks as he grabs the water bottle off the counter. Sammi giggles and smiles at him with amusement. He glances at her with a smile. "And I'm always winning with you."

Sammi smiles shyly and blushes. "Right back at you." She kisses him on the cheek, causing his smile to widen. "I love you."

"I love you." Lucas told her.

"Wait," Dave stares at them with wide eyes and an excited smile. "Are you guys finally saying 'i love you' to each other?"

When they both nod and smile at him, Jennifer looks at them with a grin. "Awe, that's so sweet! I'm happy for you guys. I'm glad you're night went better than ours." She sighed, gesturing to herself and Dave. Sammi laughed lightly, smiling sympathetically at her and Dave.
