Chapter one

Hey, Lucy said as she opened her locker. Hey, I said. Are you doing anything after school? Maybe you can come to my house, Lucy said. I can't, I have to study with Brianna, I said. I feel so bad for u, Lucy said. Brianna is the mean girl, she bullies everybody. I guess I'm just gonna have to deal with it, I said. Yep, Lucy said. Hi, guys, Emily said. Hey, me and Lucy said. Are you helping me or not? Brianna said in her mean voice. Yeah, I said. Me and Brianna walked to my house. Help me with reading. Oh wait I forgot, you can't read, Brianna said. I ignored her. Look over this than I will quiz you , I said handing Brianna a math book. What about me quizzing you? Brianna asked. After that, u quiz me, I said with a sigh. Can you help me tomorrow, too? Brianna asked. Don't your parents ever help you? I asked. I have to do everything myself, my parents make me work for them and all they do is sit around. And if I don't do what they say... forget it, Brianna said. Then what? I asked. They threaten to hurt me. They never have but I'm scared they will, Brianna said. I'm sorry, I said. I guess it could be worse, Brianna said. I better get going, Brianna said. I had to fix this, but the question was how? Then, I had an idea.
It was the next day and I was at school. Lucy, Emily I need to talk to you, I said. What is it? Emily asked. It's about Brianna, I said. What about her? Lucy asked. She has a rough life, I said. Serves her right, Lucy said. That's why she's so mean, I said. Maybe she needs someone to help her. I have nothing to do with this, she's mean and she deserves a hard life, Lucy said. But maybe she needs somebody to be nice to her and then maybe she will start being nice to other people. I think I'm going to talk to her, Emily said. What about you, Lucy? I asked. Alright, I'm in, Lucy said. Look who it is, the three lamest girls in the fifth grade, Brianna said. Would you like to come to my house after school? I asked brianna. Me? Why? Brianna asked. I would like to be your friend, I said. Ok, sure, Brianna said. Me, Lucy, and Emily all high-fived each other. This is definitely working, Emily said. Yeah, me and Lucy agreed. And this is my room, I said, leading Brianna to my room. It's nice, Brianna said. Thanks, I said. I'm really sorry I was so mean to you, Brianna said. That was easy, I thought. It's ok, I said. We did it! I exclaimed. Really?! What happened? Lucy asked. Brianna apologized, I said. I talked to Brianna, she actually listened to me! Emily exclaimed. Hi, guys, Brianna said. Hey, we said. Wanna hang out with us? Lucy asked. Sure, Brianna said. Let's go to my house, Emily said. Yeah , me, Brianna, and Lucy said. I'll be right back, I said. I swear I saw someone following me and my friends. I turned around. What are you looking at? A girl said. Nothing, I said. If you think I'm following you, I'm not, the girl said. Ok then, bye, I said running back to my friends. Where were you? Lucy asked. I forgot something, I lied. Then let's go, Brianna said. Emily rang her doorbell. My grandma is watching me while my parents are at a meeting, Emily said. Emily rang the doorbell again. No answer. that's weird maybe grandma isn't here yet, Emily said. I thought your grandma was sick, Lucy said. She's better now, Emily said. You don't think... I whispered to Lucy. Lucy gasped. Maybe, she whispered back to me. Maybe the doorbell doesn't work, Brianna suggested. Emily knocked on the door. Still no answer. That's weird, I said. I've got a message from my mom, Emily said. She read it then started crying. Me and Lucy looked at each other. She's gone, Emily said. We're really sorry, Brianna said. Right then, we saw a girl come to the stePs. It was the same girl that has been following us all this time. What do you want? Brianna asked the girl. The girl ignored Brianna and went up the steps. Your a big cry-baby, the girl said. That's the meanest thing I've ever heard! I exclaimed. Thank you, the girl said. That wasn't a compliment, I said. To me it was, the girl said. She used to be my best friend but we're not friends anymore, Brianna whispered to me. I nodded. The girl pushed Brianna. What's your problem? Lucy asked. I have no problem, the girl said. Leave us alone, I said. NO! The girl exclaimed. Emily was still crying. Stop crying, cry-baby, the girl said. Leave her alone, Brianna said. I don't know what happened to you, you hang out with this dumb group instead me. You wanna know what happened? I'll tell you what happened. This dumb group is nicer than you, Brianna said. THAT'S IT! The girl exclaimed. Then she left. We all went home. I felt really sorry for Emily, she must be very upset. That night, I couldn't sleep, I didn't go to bed at all. I actually cried a couple of times. Emily must be really measurable, her grandma died and she's being picked on. Honey, are you ok? You seem sad, Mom said as I ate breakfast the next day. I'm fine, Mom. It's just that my friend is going through some struggles that's all. Oh got to go, bye mom, I said. Bye, Mom said. How are you doing, Emily? I asked Emily. I'm fine just leave me alone, Emily said. When people say things like this I don't know what to do. I'm sorry your grandmother died, I said. I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE ME ALONE, Emily said. Ok then, I said walking away. See? I don't know what to do. How's Emily doing? Lucy asked. Lucy was with Brianna. I think you might want to find that out yourself, I said. Ok... Lucy said. I'm sorry about your grandmother, Lucy said. Well I'm not, and then you have to come and talk about it and you make it even worse, Emily said. Emily walked away. Just try to be as sweet and understanding as we can to her. She's going through a tough time, I said. Yeah, Lucy and Brianna agreed. Let's just be as sweet and understanding as we can to her, the same girl that was following me and my friends to Emily's house a couple of days ago mimicked. It's you again, Lucy said. Want to go out for ice cream with me? Emily asked the girl. Let's do it! The girl said. Emily and the girl walked away. ( probably to the ice cream shop) Let's asked Emily if she wants to play soccer with us, Lucy said. Yeah, that's her favorite thing to do, I said. I'll ask her after school, Brianna said.
