Bonnie
It was quiet. Too quiet.
After a small breather in bed, I decided I wanted a shower and the only words that left Harry's mouth after he just asked me to marry him were, “can I join?” I said yes (to the shower) and now we were standing here wet and silent.
Was he going to not say anything? Or should I say something? Maybe he just said that because he came? Yeah, that's it? Weirdo. But wait I kinda got excited about it. Do I want to marry him? I mean, of course, I do want to marry him, but not now. We were not living together, we just got back together, it's too soon. Right? Why am I sweating in the shower?
“Harry-”
“Bonnie-”
We spoke at the same time and both laughed awkwardly scrubbing our hair in another round of silence. “Are you okay?” he pushed his shampooed hair back as I stood under the high-pressure shower watching the soap run down his shoulders over his chest.
“Just sore.” I rinsed off and moved aside to let him do the same. More silence.
After our shower, Harry grabbed his towel and dried his hair and face before patting himself down and wrapping his towel around his waist. He grabbed one of the clean towels for me and put it around my body, kissing my nose. I guess things were not that weird. Maybe he didn't realize he said what he said and we can move on.
“Snug as a bug.” he whispered wrapping his arms around me. "Do you want-"
“Why did you ask me to marry you?” I swear I didn't mean to blurt that out and it literally just came out of my mouth without any control. His arms loosened and his eyes jumped from my face to the ceiling and around the bathroom in a very clear panic.
“Fuck I did say that out loud.”
“Yeah, twice.” his eyes got big in more panic. “I always assumed we would get engaged when we were living together, and maybe your romantic little heart would come up with a plan. Can't exactly tell the kids we got engaged while having sex.” shut up Bonnie.
“I guess I had it in my mind, and you're so good at the stuff-”
“Sex-”
“Yes, that.” he blushed. “I guess it was at the moment, although I do want to marry you because that would mean we would be forever. Well, that's what I would hope- fifty percent of marriages end in divorce, like my mom and my sister but also they date assholes- I'm learning not to be an asshole, so maybe we shouldn't get married right now...unless you want to-" I gently pressed my lips to his to shut him up.
“You're rambling, Harry.” he nodded slowly. “I mean I don't think that was considered a real proposal, you were in a moment of passion. I know you want to marry me someday but we just got back together, that would be insane.”
His eyes met mine and it almost felt like we had the same thought.
Did we want to get married?
“Yeah...crazy.” he chuckled still looking at me with a weird look. “I mean if we were to get engaged- say tonight- we'd be engaged for a few months and then we would need like-” he shrugged blowing air out of his mouth as he thought to himself. “- a year to plan the wedding.”
“A wedding, like with a dress and cake?”
“Yeah.” he pulled me closer. “I'd want to take you to England to meet my dad and grandparents, we would need to save up for everything. We'd also have to wait for our leases to end so give or take our wedding wouldn't be until- sorry I sound crazy.” he laughed making is way towards the bedroom where he sat at the end of the bed. I sat down beside him and stared as a million thoughts went through his mind.
This was strange, for years the thought of marriage didn't sound right to me. Every guy no matter how long or short term our relationship was marriage and all that never really interested me. But here I was thinking about spending my life with this guy who I love. Sure we took a break, and in total, we've only been together a few months, but I've known him for almost a decade and I think that this might be the craziest thing I've ever done but honestly, nothing about our relationship is normal.
And anyway, who cares? If we want to be married we can, it's our life and our relationship.
“Harry?” he nods turning to look at me. “I want to marry you.”
“Wait, really?” I nod.
“Listen, we can save up and take a trip to England this Christmas to spend it with your family, we come back and just start saving money, by next year, the lease is up and we can move into a better place.”
“And we can shop for a ring together so I don't fuck it up and get you some crappy ring.”
“You wouldn't get me some crappy ring, I'd love it no matter what.” this felt so...normal.
Harry got closer to me and spoke almost in a whisper. “Wait so, are we like… engaged?”
“I mean… we can be sort of engaged. I don't have a ring but we are going to get married so...yes?” he laughed and looked around the room before his eyes got big.
“Okay, so how about we have this talk after Christmas. Until then-” he pulled off a ring on his pinkie finger and took my hand to place it on my ring finger. “You wear that for me.”
In true Harry and Bonnie fashion, we were technically now engaged.

Two days later we stood against a wall in Harry and Niall's apartment as people danced and drank. The housewarming adult party turned into a college frat house party instantly when Harry realized Niall invited more people than Harry would have guessed. But none of that seemed to matter with Harry because for the past two days we've been in a little bubble of love.
I was dressed up in a black strapless dress that went about mid-thigh and matched with Harry's black button-up tucked into his jeans. He was leaning in towards me whispering dirty things he was going to do to me later when Sara walked over to us with her husband and stood nearby.
“Well there's a guy wearing a toga and three girls making out in the kitchen so this is already the wildest party I've ever been to.” I laughed and tapped my red cup to hers. “So Harry, now that you and my best friend are back together, any chance we can go on a double date of some kind?”
Sara's husband looked at Harry and smiled. The two never really talked before so it was sort of awkward between them. “Yeah uh, Sara and I are planning to go to that new restaurant in town and maybe get a drink?” Harry nodded and looked at me for confirmation.
“Sounds good.” we talked for another minute before Harry noticed people trying to sneak off into his bedroom and decided to put a stop to it.
I was left with Sara and Ashleigh who walked over to join the group. “God this is like college all over again. I thought Harry was maturing?” Just as I was about to say something I noticed two guys lifting up a girl upside down to do a keg stand. One of them was Harry who looked like he was forced to be there.
“He's mature, but it's a party after all. Besides its mostly Niall's friends.” I shrugged.
“Yeah Ash, he's growing up, look he gave Bonnie his ring.” my eyes widened and I quickly remembered that no one knew about us being lowkey engaged but the ring Harry gave me was one he always wore.
Ash lifted my hand and raised an eyebrow. “He gave you this? That's adorable.”
“Mhmm, it's not a big deal.” she nodded.
“Why do you wear it on your ring finger?”
“Because Harry's fingers are huge and this fits that finger.” I shrugged.
And also because we're sort of engaged!
She immediately dropped the conversation and I went to go and dance with Harry and enjoy the party. Whatever Harry and I were doing was our business and when the time came we would tell everyone. For now, it was kind of nice just doing whatever it is that we were doing.
I came up to him and danced from side to side, leaning in to whisper in his ear. “I feel naughty with this secret.” he raised an eyebrow a bit confused. “You know about being sort of engaged?”
“Oh yeah? Naughty girl.” I giggled and nodded. “I'm glad only we know what's going on, it feels special and intimate. Just you and I knowing our business. I just want us to be together and be happy. No one is going to ruin us anymore.” and although the music surrounding us was loud and obnoxious, all there was at that moment was Harry and I dancing, secretly engaged.
