A Reason For Everything
2 weeks later, Jake had been invited to play in the return show of 2 Truths, 1 Lie, but he had no idea who he would be playing against. All he did know was it wouldn't be Kimmy, as she would be in the background, watching on with Courtney, Olivia and Shayne. Just before the cameras were due to start rolling at 4pm, he was pulled aside by Ian.
Ian: So, to raise the stress of this game's return, the producers did a bit of research and... well... don't hate us for this, but...
Jake: What did you do?
Ian sighed before saying it.
Ian: They invited your ex girlfriend, Hannah to play too.
Jake's eyes lit up with tension.
Jake: Oh boy...
Ian: I had a feeling you would react like this - if you feel comfortable doing this or anything, we can always just sub Courtney in or someone--
Jake: No, no, it's fine, I, er... I can do it.
He then took his seat with some nervousness, Hannah then emerged and in Jake's eyes, not much had changed from when he last saw her, when they ended things. She gave him a cheeky wink, something Kimmy definitely did not appreciate, as she looked like she wanted to strangle her.
Hannah: Hey, Jake.
Jake: Hey...
As filming then began, Jake did the intro and introduced Hannah to the world. Since she moved to Ireland, she led a quiet life and became a low key actor, but she had hardly spoke to Jake since they ended things, so even though he was fine on camera, deep down, everyone knew he wasn't the same.
Jake: Okay, ladies first.
Hannah: Okay, here goes... My dad used to work at Aston Martin, I started a false rumour that made my friend break up with their boyfriend, and I used to do doodles of you in my school notepads when we were dating.
Jake: Okay, going straight in at the deep end... I definitely know your dad worked at Aston Martin, so it's between the other two... I'm gonna say that the lie is... the doodles.
Hannah then got the water gun ready and fired it all over his face, as she then revealed the answer.
Hannah: Nope, it was the false rumour!!! For the record, Katie, I'm so sorry again! I never meant to split you guys up, you two were couple goals!
Jake: Okay my turn...
The game went on, with Hannah guessing Jake's lie once and then getting it wrong another 3 times, and Jake got 2 right and another 2 wrong before they entered the final and probably most deep round.
Hannah: Okay, last round... I faked a sickie to get out of the school's Christmas panto, I have no regrets about our relationship ending the way it did, and... I cheated on you whilst we were together.
Whilst Courtney and Shayne tried to process the 3 facts in utter disbelief, Kimmy would have sent Hannah to the grave right now if she could as she was absolutely fuming inside. She knew Hannah was making Jake uncomfortable by his facial expressions and her constant flirting, as well as the bombshell of her last statement.
Jake: Oh boy, awkwardness just went through the roof! I know I'm probably gonna be wrong but what the hell, I'm already soaked - I'm gonna say... you never cheated on me...
As Hannah set about loading her gun, she felt a sense of regret as she then fired it half-heartedly leaving everyone in pure shock.
Hannah: I'm sorry...
Jake: But... but why?
Hannah: It was just before we broke up, a one night thing with Matt, his best friend. We got quite drunk and one thing lead to another... That's why I moved away, because I never wanted to tell you...
Jake: I... I literally don't know what to say...
He motioned for the cameras to stop as he then got all emotional, and left the set. After a few minutes, it was evident he wasn't coming back. So they just left Hannah sitting there, everyone quite angry and upset at her.
Ian: I knew inviting you was the wrong idea...
The gang split up to try and look for Jake but the only evidence they saw of him was his car leaving the parking lot, and heading off somewhere rather quickly.
Courtney: Well, what do we do now?
Ian: Split up. Courtney, come with me, Kimmy, go with Shayne, let us know when you find him.
They searched everywhere, at his house, at Chris' restaurant, at the quieter spots around town before Kimmy and Shayne came across his car parked near the beach.
Shayne: Well, if his car's here, he must be, right?
As soon as Shayne parked up, Kimmy zoomed out to try and find her man. She searched along the beach, near the rocks and even by the ice cream stand before Shayne eventually found him. It looked like a scene from a film as he was leaning against the barrier at the end of the pier, all by himself.
Shayne: You think we should go talk to him?
Kimmy: Only one of us should, and it should be you.
Shayne: I'm not so sure about that, I'm not really that good when it comes to judging emotions on a person, even when it's as bad as this. You're his girlfriend, and you're normally good with the whole 'feelings' talk.
Kimmy sighed as she admitted defeat.
Kimmy: Okay fine, I'll go. Just message the others and tell them we found him!
As Shayne went back to his car and did that, Kimmy went to the pier and from a distance and seemingly unnoticed, admired him as she couldn't stop staring, even going as far as to take a couple of pictures. She then put her phone away and gently walked up to him.
Jake: So much for being alone right now.
Kimmy: I'm sorry...
Jake: For what? You didn't do anything... that cold hearted son of a bitch did.
Kimmy: It sounds like you really loved her at the time.
Jake: I did. 4 years and 358 days we were together. How things would be different right now... I had plans for the future with her, we would have settled down, got married and maybe even started a family. One week before our 5 year anniversary, she told me she would be moving away because of her parents getting a better job. While that part clearly was true, turns out there was another reason. She was cheating on me and never wanted me to know...
Kimmy: So why the sudden outburst?
Jake: Because I was nothing but faithful to her for nearly 5 years and she ruins everything just for one night. Clearly I meant nothing to her.
He spent a couple of minutes with his head in his hands as Kimmy gently rubbed his back and shoulders in sympathy.
Jake: I'm sorry. I shouldn't be burdening you of all people with my problems relating to my estranged ex.
Kimmy: You never have been or never will be a burden. I mean, my ex and I broke up over commitment issues and work, we never cheated or anything serious like that, but it still didn't feel good.
Jake: Stuff like this never does.
He then handed her his car keys.
Jake: Here. You take the car and go back to the house, I need to be alone right now...
Kimmy then grabbed his shoulders and kissed him for all she had.
Kimmy: Come back safe...
She then left with tears in her eyes as she watched Jake go back to admiring the sunset. She got back to the car and was close to full on crying, with tears ruining her make up.
Kimmy: Please... just don't do anything stupid...
She then got a message from Courtney.
We've had no luck finding him, have you?
Almost immediately, Kimmy replied.
Yeah, I found him, he was at the end of the pier at the beach. Best leave him be, he's kinda in a rough place at the moment with Hannah and everything.
Don't really blame him. How about you, you okay? Need picking up?
No, it's okay, he gave me his car keys. I'm just a little worried about him though. In the state I saw him in, who knows what he'll do, and I dread to think what will happen if he does do something bad.
Trust me, he'll be fine. You go home and try to take your mind off it.
I guess so, thanks for the advice.
Kimmy took one last look at the pier, with tears welling up in her eyes before she started the engine and headed back to Jake's house, muttering words to herself non-stop, maybe hoping Jake could hear her in his thoughts.
Kimmy: Please be safe, Jake... please...
Meanwhile, as Jake turned and began heading home by walking through the streets, he surprisingly bumped into Hannah as she got herself a Starbucks, and when she saw Jake, their encounter was far from friendly.
Hannah: There you are! Everyone's been looking over for you.
Jake: Yeah, right. Like you were...
Hannah: Look, just let me explain.
Jake: Explain what? How 5 years of my life I'll never get back were wasted on you?
Hannah: Look, I'm not expecting something like forgiveness or anything...
Jake just scoffed.
Jake: Good, cos you're not getting it.
Hannah: Look, I was drunk! Okay? It's not like it meant anything!
Jake: Well it did to me! So besides ruining my life yet again, why are you here?
Hannah: Because I wanted to tell you this... I regret what I did to this day and... I still love you.
She tried hugging him and kissing him, but Jake resisted her advances.
Jake: Save it, Hannah. Me and you... we're never gonna work.
Hannah: We can find a way, I know--
Jake: Especially since I have a girlfriend now.
Hannah looked flabbergasted, with a hint of shock.
Hannah: Since when?
Jake: Since a month and a half ago.
Hannah: Yeah right, you're just saying that... You know you would love nothing more than to get back together with me...
Jake then pulled up a picture of he and Kimmy sharing a kiss by his car, and another of Kimmy kissing his cheek.
Jake: Now look me in the eye and say it.
Hannah looked like she was going to burst into tears.
Jake: Save your fake tears, Hannah, because I'm not buying into this ruse again. We may have HAD something 5 years ago, but we have NOTHING now. Especially after what you did today.
Jake then turned around and walked away from her, despite her shouting his name in both frustration and emotion. He put his music back in and enjoyed a peaceful walk home, where by the time he got there, he saw Kimmy waiting by the bedroom window, looking up at the now dark night sky, waiting in hope for him. He gently opened and closed the front door without her noticing, went to the kitchen and carefully poured them a glass of wine each before taking them upstairs where the bedroom door was open and he saw that Kimmy had pretty much not moved a muscle. He put the glasses of wine down on the table as silently as possible so he could surprise her, and tiptoed across the room where he reached her and wrapped his arms around her waist and she couldn't wipe the smile off her face as she sighed in relief, closed her eyes and melted into his touch as he kissed her neck softly, making Kimmy moan ever so slightly.
Kimmy: Thank god you're home. I was beginning to get worried.
Jake: Have I really been gone that long?
Kimmy: It's been over 5 hours, stupid!
Jake looked at the clock on his phone and saw it was nearly 10pm.
Jake: Wow, must have lost track of time. Sorry for that.
Kimmy: You're back now, and that's all that matters.
As she tightened the grip on Jake's hands around her waist, their lips met in a soft, yet emotional embrace, with Kimmy loving the feeling.
Kimmy: So what's gonna happen with Hannah?
Jake: Funnily enough, I bumped into her on the way back.
Kimmy: And?
Jake: She actually tried it on with me, but I brushed it off, she saw the pictures we took and despite her attempts to kiss and hug me, it wasn't enough. Nothing will ever be enough for me to lose you.
Kimmy just smiled as she put her hand on his heart.
Kimmy: This is why I love you. You're your own person, and you're never afraid to show your love for me...
Jake: That's because I had someone special by my side from my first moment in this company and country. And that's you.
Kimmy was now getting quite emotional at Jake's words and as they kissed once more, they then fell on the bed with Jake's arms being pinned down by Kimmy's.
Kimmy: Oh, you're not going anywhere, mister...
She then planted a kiss flush on the lips and all of a sudden, the problems of today for Jake felt like they had washed away in a split second. So in the end, he just let Kimmy have her way with him, which ended with a very passionate and heated making out session, which went on non stop for about 20 minutes.
Kimmy: Also, just for the record... I really hate Hannah.
Jake: Me too, I honestly don't know what I saw in her all those years ago. But anyway, I'm trying to forget about the past and just focus on the here and now, the present and whatever the future holds. Whatever problems lay ahead of us, we'll face them together.
Kimmy: I wouldn't want it any other way.
They kissed yet again, with even a bit of tongue action involved before Kimmy pulled away.
Jake: I love you, my Krazy Kimmy.
Kimmy: And I love you, my British idiot.
They shared one more kiss before getting ready for bed, with Kimmy once again using Jake's chest as a more comfortable pillow.
