tաɛռtʏ ʄօʊʀ; For My One and Only
Humming some light tune under his breath, Frank opened the front door to the cosy house his husband and him were so lucky to call theirs. The smile painting his lips widened as he stepped into the warmth of his home, wanting to escape the cold spring wind this particular evening had to offer.
Frank had just got rid of a nasty flu and he did not want it to return that fast. He knew very well from past experience that Gerard, his adorable and loving husband, would not like that one bit. Seeing Frank sick and bedridden was extremely frustrating to Gerard and he felt, quote; incredible helpless seeing Frank in that particular state because he knew he couldn't physically do anything to make Frank feel better.
"Gerard?" Frank asked out loud when neither his husband or dog came to greet him in the entrance.
Shaking his head fondly, Frank concluded quickly that Gerard was most likely asleep in his office upstairs after grading his Advanced English class' essays. And Sweetpea, their cute mutt, could also most likely be found sleeping somewhere. Frank guessed the bathroom because of the heating cables under the bathroom-tiles.
However, his mood didn't falter when nobody acknowledged his homecoming, no it actually made his heart flutter at the thought of his adorable and dorky husband splayed out over his desk, ink and maybe some drool on his cheek, sleeping on his students' essays.
Frank had to giggle some at that thought as he hung his grey wool coat up.
There was no doubt that Gerard was going to whine about how much his back and neck ached later on. Frank knew he would reply with his usual snarky yet fond comment on how their bed existed for a reason. Gerard would then pout to a certain extent and he'd roll his eyes and sigh in a fake manner before he would kiss his cheek with secret promises of massages after dinner.
Gerard could be such a child when he wanted to and Frank felt that it was his duty, husband or not, to tease him to a certain extent and of course, shower his spoiled brat of a husband with loving kisses.
As he proceeded to step into their living room and turning on the light out of habit, Frank's eyes was instantly drawn to the colourful bundle placed carefully on their coffee table.
It was flowers.
Beautiful coloured and decorated flowers bound together into one huge bouquet.
Slipping off his shoulder bag, Frank immediately walked towards them only to hesitate a bit as he looked closer. No note seemed to be attached to the large bouquet and that confused Frank even more.
He couldn't remember that they were supposed to have someone over today so he quickly ruled that possibility out of his mental list of reasons why.
There was no other pair of shoes in their entrance, so it couldn't be someone who had popped by unless they had left before he had arrived, but then again none of their neighbours nor friends were known for being the flower giving types.
Judging by the poor flowers floppy condition, Frank guessed they had been laying there for at least a couple of hours which could match the time when Gerard came home. However, seeing as Frank was the one in their marriage who actually managed to keep up with all of their important dates, he finally concluded that Gerard probably had received them at work.
Finally picking them up from the coffee table to put them in a vase, Frank couldn't help but to bury his entire face into the colourful and beautiful range of flowers, taking in their incredible smell and just feeling their soft textures on his cheeks.
Flower bouquets in general made him incredible happy for some reason and he couldn't bring himself to stop smelling at them just yet. They had a marvellous sooting sense to them and it made Frank want to lie in a flowery meadow for an eternity.
Still clutching the large bouquet he almost drowned in, Frank hadn't heard the shuffling steps coming down the stairs and into the living-room seeing as he was way too busy day dreaming about flowery, and lavender fields.
Just as Frank had predicted Gerard had indeed fallen asleep while grading papers, but this time he had woken up by himself, most likely by his own sub-consciousness knowing that Frank had come home from work.
However, Gerard wasn't met by the usual sight of Frank pottering around on the kitchen while some delicious vegetarian dish was in the making. No, this time Gerard was met with his little husband burying his head into the grand bouquet he had purchased this afternoon.
Gerard couldn't help but utter a fond chuckle at the purely adorable sight right in front of him. Frank had always been too cute for his own good, but this time Gerard almost felt as if he was about to melt into a huge puddle of goo any moment just because of how much Frank made his heart flutter with nothing but pure love.
The said man snapped out of wherever his mind seemed to be when Gerard chuckled and he almost dropped the flowers because of the sudden noise.
"Gerard!"
The yelp of his name was filled with both shock and happiness, which could seem like a weird combination, but not when it came to his husband.
Frank was probably just surprised that he hadn't heard Gerard enter the room, but also happy to finally see him, well more like hear him, after the long and agonising hours at work.
When Frank finally turned towards him, but didn't seem to let the flowers down, Gerard just had to chuckle some more at how cute his sweet husband really was. He knew how much Frank loved flowers and that was simply the only reason he had bought them. That, and the fact that Gerard couldn't ask for a better partner than Frank.
"Look at these flowers," Frank happily exclaimed from behind the variety of flowers and colours as if Gerard hadn't seen them before.
"They are so pretty!" He continued in the same happy voice of his and Gerard wanted nothing more to grab his face and smother him with kisses.
"I know, darling." He chuckled anyway, not wanting to ruin Frank's happiness. Luckily Gerard couldn't see how Frank's cheeks flared up at the pet name, but he had a certain idea.
"What's the occasion?" Frank asked with the same amount of curiosity and joy which only made Gerard melt even more.
Frank was the most altruistic person he knew, and that fact made Gerard shake his fondly as he took in the small man in front of him with such adoration. Of course, Frank hadn't thought of the possibility of the bouquet being to him.
"Do I need an excuse to buy some beautiful flowers to my even more beautiful husband?"
By now Gerard had grown tired of not seeing Frank's face and decided to place the bouquet in a vase himself since Frank hadn't done it yet.
As he carefully took the large collection of flowers, Gerard felt a huge smile plant itself on his lips when he heard Frank gasp with realisation.
"Oh Gee!"
If that wasn't pure joy, then Gerard had no idea what it could be.
"You like me," Frank proceeded to exclaim with the same pure joy as a smile as big as the sun covered his mouth.
Gerard couldn't help but to raise an eyebrow. "We're married, sugar. Of course, I like you, well no; love you."
The impossible happened when Frank's grin widened before he flung himself at Gerard almost making them both fall onto the floor. It was mandatory for Frank to hug and kiss his husband after a long day at work. Hell, Frank even refused to get out of bed unless Gerard kissed him.
"Careful, honey." Gerard breathed as he steadied Frank, the flowers and himself from falling onto the floor. If it hadn't been for Frank almost jumping at Gerard every time he came home, they would most likely have ended up in a big pile of limbs and flowers everywhere.
"I missed you, Gee." Frank practically whined into Gerard's white shirt, clutching into his arms almost on the verge of being painful. However, Gerard didn't mind it one bit, he was used to Frank's clinginess and he honestly found it amusing and adorable, not to mention how loved he felt.
"Yeah, I can see that," He chuckled in a playful manner, "But I think it's about time we placed these poor flowers in some water, or what do you say, sweetie?" And with that he placed a kiss on Frank's forehead, making the said man squeal in delight before guiding them into the kitchen.
