I Think I Might Possibly Like You (Frerard)
(My friend gave me this idea, and I'm trying to do it the best I can, soooo it may or may not suck)
Frank kept looking up from his social studies notebook to steal a few quick glimpses at the dark haired boy that sat at the desk across from him, drawing something on the paper he was supposed to be using for notes. He couldn't help it, the guy was really cute and adorable.
It also didn't help that he kept clicking his pen over and over again, which would break Frank's concentration and make him look back over.
Okay yes, Frank did it too, but it wasn't a constant thing he did, but the other kid was doing it all the time. He didn't want to go over and stop him, so he just stayed in his seat, paying attention to his work.
"Alright, who here knows about morse code?" The teacher said, a few hands shooting up, almost the whole class seemed to know what it is. Frank noticed the boy he had been staring...no, looking at had his hand raised only a few inches above his head before putting it back down, continuing to focus on his drawing.
"Gerard, I see you're very busy with whatever you're doing...so why don't you tell us a bit about morse code." Mrs. Hamilton said. Oh so that was his name, Frank thought, smiling a little as he saw the other boy blush brightly, looking up from his sketch of what seemed to be of a vampire, but he wasn't too sure since he didn't have the best view of the paper.
"Um...well...morse code is a way of speaking through signals using sound or light...they're, um, they're usually- I mean, the letters are represented by long and short signals by light and or sound." Gerard said timidly, his voice quite soft and quiet. The teacher nodded, seeming satisfied with the answer he had given, turning back to talk to the class.
Frank for once tuned into the lesson, listening intently to what Mrs. Hamilton was saying. This could get interesting, it seemed fun enough, talking to people with no one else knowing what they could be saying. He smiled a bit, looking over at Gerard who had gone back to drawing, maybe he could even talk to him, well, if he knew morse code also, otherwise he would just be tapping on his desk for no reason, getting odd looks from people.
Much to his disliking, Gerard looked up at Frank, catching him looking at him. The younger boy tried to play it off, acting like he was trying to read one of the posters on the wall behind Gerard, but his eyes flicking back to the older didn't help in the slightest.
Gerard smiled, blushing as he tore off a piece of notebook paper, scribbling something down on it. He purposefully knocked his pencil over onto the floor, giving Frank a look, both of them leaning down to grab it at the same time, Gerard slipping the piece of paper into Frank's hand, smiling a bit more as he grabbed his pencil, sitting back up in his desk chair.
Why do you keep looking at me?
Frank smirked a little, quickly writing a corny reply that was just "you're pretty ", tossing it onto Gerard's desk. Mrs. Hamilton honestly didn't care if her students passed notes in her class, as long as it was discreet, and if another kid didn't rat them out, nothing bad would happen. Gerard blushed more, putting his hand over his mouth, trying to move some of his hair into his face to cover it up along with his smile, pocketing the small piece of paper.
After class ended, they had a free period, which was the perfect moment for Frank to hunt down Gerard, seeing him on his way to the library. "Hey! Wait up a sec!" He called, running to catch up with the taller boy, grinning up at him. "Hi, what's up? Where're we going?"
"Library, gonna go get a book on morse code cause that shit is cool...also way more cool than passing notes." Gerard said, grinning back at Frank, opening the door for him as they walked into the library. No one was inside except for the librarian, she was sitting behind her desk, reading some thick book that neither of them could make out the title of. Frank followed Gerard around, wondering if he was getting on his nerves. As creepy as it may sound, he loved being around the other kid, he was cool and Frank loved his company, even if he was a few desks away, or at least in the same proximity.
Frank stood on his tiptoes, watching Gerard pull down a huge book about morse code, setting it down on the floor. "Bada bing, bada boom." He said, smiling as he flipped a of few pages, laying on the floor on his stomach, Frank copying him, looking at the book also.
"This looks complicated." He said simply, looking over at Gerard. "How are we gonna remember all that?"
"It's simple once you learn it. You play guitar right?" Gerard asked, Frank nodding as a reply. He did play guitar, very well actually if he didn't say so himself. "See, it's the same. It's like another language, it's complicated at first, but after a while you get used to it and it's like second nature."
Frank nodded again, his signature smirk back on his face, watching as Gerard would read something in the book, then tap it out on the floor. "I'm gonna get one of these too, then we can learn morse code together and talk." He said, rolling over onto his back, glancing over at the other books that sat on the shelves, all of them being history and historical fiction.
"That sounds awesome, we should totally do that!" Gerard spoke excitedly, not looking up from his book. Frank could feel himself starting to blush, looking up at the ceiling. His friends always told him he acted a little creepy when Gerard was around, but it wasn't like he followed him home or anything like that. They both knew the other existed, and had talked a few times. Just, Frank liked Gerard, a lot, lot, lot more than he would like to admit.
Ever since they had first met each other in middle school he had liked him. Frank loved everything about Gerard, especially seeing him happy and excited, which is how he was now. He always had a smile on his face, his eyes wide, having a childlike wonder to what had captured his attention at the moment. As weird as it sounded, Frank had always wished he was the one that made Gerard smile like that, and if he ever made him laugh or anything like that it was a small personal victory for himself.
After a while, the librarian came over to tell Gerard and Frank that their break was over, and they had to leave. They both got up, helping each other to get back on their feet, almost falling into the dystopian section. "Oh my gosh, Frankie, chill." Gerard said, giggling quietly as he picked the book off of the floor, tucking it under his arm, clearly not noticing the nickname that had slipped out of his mouth, but Frank had definitely noticed, and was now blushing quite darkly, pulling the hood to his hoodie up, waiting for the librarian to let Gerard borrow the morse code book, both of them walking to their lockers. For the next class they would have to split up, Gerard had art and Frank had band, so that was gonna involve one of them getting left behind.
Frank waved to Gerard, grabbing his music binder, heading down the hallway again before the older boy caught his arm, stopping him in his tracks. "Um...Frankie? You have band right?" He asked shyly, tucking his pencil behind his ear. Frank nodded, smiling more at how adorable Gerard looked at the moment. "And that goes overtime usually...right?"
"Yeah it does." Frank said, nodding again, not knowing where this conversation was going.
"Would it be okay if I hung out in there after my class is over? You practice in the music room obviously, but I thought I could maybe sit outside and wait for you?" Gerard asked, his voice getting quieter the longer he spoke.
"Yeah of course!" Frank said a bit too eagerly, clearly loving this plan of getting to spend extra time with Gerard. "Sorry if it runs late, I usually help clean up the room, so it might be a while."
Gerard smiled, his cheeks flushing a light pink. "I can help you clean up, I don't mind, I would like to...oh shit I'm gonna be late for my class, see you later, Frankie!" He said, slamming his locker door shut, running down the hallway to the art class he had to get to. Frank couldn't help but smile widely at how cute Gerard was acting, the nickname he had used making the younger boy's heart flutter.
As much as he didn't want to admit it, he might possibly, just maybe like Gerard.
Frank quickly headed to music class, trying his best to pay attention, seeing as this was his favorite part of school, but it was hard since his mind kept replaying the moments he had just shared with Gerard, it was like rewatching your favorite movie over and over again, wanting it to last for as long as it could until it would finally fade away and be forgotten about when something else, something more important happened.
The class ended after what felt like forever, most of the kids hurrying out, wanting to get out of the building as soon as possible, a few lingering to talk to one another, or to just walk around the classroom doing nothing. Frank set his binder down on one of the shelves that held all of the instruments, going to pick up chairs and clean up, spotting Gerard sitting outside the classroom, sketching away again, biting his lip, concentrating on his project.
"Gee, the class is over." Frank called, Gerard's head popping up at the sound of his friend's voice, rushing into the room, standing next to him. "How overtime did we go?"
"Just thirty minutes, don't worry, I kept myself busy." Gerard said, flipping through the pages of his art book, holding his pencil with his teeth as Frank began stacking chairs, glancing over at the other boy to see what he was doing. "Found it! But you can't make fun of it, okay? And if you don't like it then just tell me."
Frank turned around, taking the paper from Gerard, turning it since it had been handed to him upside down. It was a fairly simple drawing of himself, but in a comic book style if that made sense. Frank grinned, looking up at Gerard. "It's perfect, I love it, thank you!"
"I'm glad you like it! Also I ran by the library, and they had another book on morse code, so I got it for you!" Gerard said, handing Frank the book that had been tucked under his arm. "Remember to practice, and I think I gotta go, my brother is driving me home and I don't wanna hold him up. See you tomorrow!"
"Gee! Wait!" Frank called as Gerard ran towards the door, looking around to see if something was wrong. "Do I get a hug?"
Gerard grinned, running back over to hug Frank tightly. "Sorry, I almost forgot." He said, giggling a tiny bit as he backed away. "See you tomorrow, Frankie, and you gotta-"
"Practice, I know, and I will, I promise." Frank said, laughing as he spoke, waving to Gerard as he ran down the hallway. "And be careful! I don't wanna take you to the emergency room!"
//random and slight time skiiiip//
It had taken a few weeks of practice, not to mention the multiple times Gerard or Frank had said the wrong thing via morse code. There had been the time when Frank accidentally called Gerard a "smart bitch", which then lead to note passing during math class so the younger one could apologize for that, saying that he was trying to say something totally different and had mixed up that word with the curse words he had been learning.
So, it was going pretty well.
Gerard glanced over at Frank's desk, seeing him looking at him again, rolling his eyes as he smiled. He was quite used to it at this point, he just didn't understand why Frank looked at him, or even wanted to. But every single time he would ask, he would just get the same answer back.
"Cause you are pretty" Frank tapped out on his desk, answering Gerard's question.
"I am not pretty, shut up"
"Liar"
Gerard only rolled his eyes again, facing the board again, writing down what he was supposed to be taking notes on, trying to not pay attention to what Frank was tapping out, finally giving in after a while.
"I think you are really pretty"
"Frank do you like me"
Gerard could see the color drain out of Frank's face, his eyes growing wide. He had been having suspicions for a while now, but had never wanted to ask in case it jeopardized their friendship, but now felt like a good time to ask.
"Frank"
"Maybe"
"Frank I like you I like you a lot"
"I like you a lot too"
Before Gerard could reply, Mrs. Hamilton was standing next to the two of them, wearing a disapproving look on her face. "I don't know what you two are doing, but that tapping is distracting the my students that are trying to learn. Both of you go to the hallway, I'll be there in a minute." She said sternly, pointing to the door. Gerard and Frank both got up, walking into the hallway, sitting on the floor.
"So...you really like me?" Gerard asked, propping his chin up on his hands, laying down on his stomach, looking up at Frank, who was leaning against the wall. He nodded blushing as he looked away.
"Yeah, I really really really like you, and I've kinda been crushing on you for a while, and I know it sounds creepy cause we've only been friends for a few weeks, but I d-" Frank began, his rambling being cut off by Gerard pressing his lips against Frank's to make him shut up. The younger boy kissed him back, gently cupping Gerard's face in his hands, pulling him a bit closer, his eyes fluttering shut after a moment.
"I really really really like you too." Gerard said as they broke away, sitting next to Frank, resting his head on his shoulder, cuddling into his side. Frank wrapped his arm around Gerard, the two of them smiling and blushing a ton.
Frank gently tapped out "I love you" on Gerard's knee, tilting his chin up slightly before kissing him again, not caring about anything else going on around them, the two only being focused on the other, everything else just turning into a blur or background noise.
Maybe those weeks spent learning morse code had been worthwhile after all.
