5: Peter in the Stars
“So who are we trying next?” Peter asked me has I wrote down some things in my notes. I looked up at him and smiled.
“We can do you now if you want,” I answered. Peter looked at me like I had three heads.
“I don’t even remember what I promised her!” he cried and I smiled. I held up a note that had the promise written on it in Peter’s handwriting. He read it and smiled.
“That is the promise,” I told him.
“Oh Natalie!” he yelled to her. She was reading in the corner and looked up at him looking upset. If it was because he interrupted her reading or if it was because he yelled her name.
“What?” she asked him standing up walking over to us.
“Now it’s time to try my promise,” Peter told her. She rolled her eyes and smirked.
“What did I promise you?” she asked.
“You said that you would go out on a night on the town. You said we would have dinner and go bowling.”
“Why would I promise that?”
“So I could get back at a girl who broke my heart. She works at the bowling alley and eats at a certain restaurant. Seeing me with you will just make her come crawling back to me. “
“I’m a ghost Peter. She’ll think you’re crazy.”
“Dammit, your right! Ugh, but what if I was the promise?”
“What did you make me promise fore say?” she asked raising an eyebrow.
“That you would help me get back on this girl. Why? I don’t think- oh!” he said getting what Natalie said. She smiled at me and placed her hands on my shoulders.
“Egon we are going to need to borrow Janine,” she said. I glared at her and Peter. There was no way I was going to let the love of my life go out with… whatever you want to call Peter. The words I would use probably weren’t the nicest ones to use.
“No,” I answered.
“Come on Egon,” Peter. “We need her for just one night!
“No,” I said again.
“Please?”
“No.”
“I’ll give you ten bucks.”
“No.”
“It might help me pass on,” Natalie said giving me a begging look. She smiled at me and I sighed. Even in death I couldn’t say no to my sister.
“Alright, but just for tonight!” I cried.
“Oh thank you Egon!” Natalie cried wrapping her arms around me and kissed my cheek. I smiled at her has the two ran down the stairs. I might get my sister to pass on after all.
______
Peter came back looking pretty upset. He changed into his pajamas and slipped into bed. I noticed that Natalie wasn’t with him and he didn’t say a word. I looked at Ray and Winston than back at Peter.
“Peter?” I asked.
“What?” he snapped.
“Where is Natalie?”
“She’s on the roof. She didn’t pass on and she was upset. She wanted some time alone so she went up to the roof.”
“Why do you seem so upset?” Ray asked him. He sat up and rubbed his face.
“Cause the person who is like a sister to me is trapped has a ghost,” he answered. I sighed and stood up and left the guys to talk. I walked up to the roof and stopped when I saw Natalie with Slimer. She sighed and looked up at the green ghost.
“How do you handle it Slimer?” she asked. “I guess you can do it since all the people you loved at one point are now dead. But everyone I love is right here. They are alive and will be alive for a long time. I was happy for a moment in the land of the dead. My maker told me that I get to have rest in the place all heroes go. He said all the Ghostbusters will get that place. But I have that stupid promise with me. I have to keep it. It’s not Ray, Winston, or Peter. It must be Janine, Louis, you, or Egon. But which one? What did I promise you?” she asked looking up. He shrugged and spoke in that strange bunch of words he says. She sighed. “I figured.”
“Egon,” Slimer said looking at me. Nat didn’t look at all.
“Yeah, he’s one of the people who are alive,” she said sadly. “My own twin brother is alive and I’m dead. You know what is beautiful Slimer?” she asked looking up. Slimer looked with her and asked what. “The stars. They may be nothing more than balls of gas, but they just have something to them. Whenever one of us was upset, Egon and I would grab a blanket and lay down looking up at the stars. I always told him the life cycle of a star. For a smart guy he always forgot. I don’t know how though.”
“I didn’t,” I spoke up. She looked behind her and gasped standing up.
“How long have you been there?” she asked.
“Since you started to talk to Slimer,” I answered laughing. She sighed and looked up at the stars. I smiled and ran down and grabbed a blanket and ran back up to Natalie. I laid it out and laid down on it patting the spot next to me. She smiled and laid next to me and we both looked up.
“Just like old times,” I said.
“When we didn’t have to free me or worry about ghost,” she said laughing, has did I.
“You love this job and you know it.”
“Loved.”
“What?”
“I loved this job. I can’t love it when I can’t do it anymore.”
“You need to lighten up!” I cried. She smirked at me.
“You are the guy who can bring anyone down and you are telling me to calm down? Don’t think so buddy!”
“There she is!”
“Where is who?”
“My sister,” I answered.
“I’ve always been here,” she replied. I smiled and just looked up at the stars. She always was with me, in my heart. I just had to free my sister.
