The River and The Sea
He sits silently
Crouched upon the banks
Of the river.
His chin rests on his knees,
Arms wrapped tightly around his legs,
As if they might escape.
He stares at the river below,
Sunlight glinting
In flecks of blue and gold.
Lazy trout
Make occasional energetic dashes
Between the sunken reeds.
A flash of electric blue
Catches his peripheral vision
As a Kingfisher
Flashes by
On its predatory mission.
He feels that he has lost her,
The distance so great
That he has lost his way.
His dreams
Battered by reality,
Steal his resolve
And leave him
Bathed in ennui.
He knows from her words
That she has lost faith.
The silence in her eyes
Speaks volumes.
As the river runs to the sea
To become part of the ebb and flow
Of life.
He hopes, as his life flows away,
That they will join one day,
Within those depths.
