Messing with Jean... Again

It took a little while but after two hours Quinn and Alastair were back and we had gathered everyone and brought them into the smaller office. We were planning on going to the training area, but we didn't really know the layout of the news station so we couldn't exactly prepare for that as much as we wanted. It wasn't like we could do recon either with how crazy everything has been lately.

We had talked it over with Mom and Molbit and they were going to do some recon before the big mission to see what they are planning. Levi wasn't too thrilled with the idea and I couldn't say I was either, but Mom and Molbit were convinced that it was necessary. They even managed to convince Pixis which I didn't think would be possible.

Quinn and Alastair started introducing themselves to the rest of the team. I could see Jean's face and I couldn't tell who he was staring at more, Quinn or Alastair. I walked over to him and got his attention by elbowing him in the upper part of his arm.

"What are you thinking?"

"She's scary, and he's hot," he mumbled.

"Oh don't let Marco catch you looking," I joked and Jean raised an eyebrow.

"Marco was staring first," he said looking behind him, "that's what made me look, and I can't blame him."

"I think he's spoken for," I said nodding to Quinn with a cheeky little smile.

She just glared back at me, "hardly," I heard her mumble.

Jean's head snapped to Quinn. "Did she just?" he started to ask.

I was going to tell him but decided to fuck with him a little. Quinn, please don't say anything I wanna see how long this lasts. "Did she what?"

"Nothing," he said, shaking it off. "So how is this gonna work? What are their powers and how are we going to incorporate them in the plan?"

"We will get to that, and I don't know that's what we are figuring out."

Hassam was just sitting off to the side talking to Armin and Erwin. They were talking about how the meeting with everyone else went. Quinn and Alastair had told everyone their names, but that was about all they knew. I had to figure out how we were going to add in their powers.

I mean Armin is going to be our lookout with Levi's help of reading minds. Quinn could also help with that part. Jean was going to use his powers to mess with the electricity as well as help broadcast the message. Marco said he was able to help with some of the technical stuff. Erwin was going to get us in and out, and I was there to help to restrain people and get them out of our way. I mean I guess Alastair could also help restrain people with his shadow manipulation powers, but I didn't really know what else we could do with them.

I wish Zahra was able to tell us what roles they could play in the mission and not just the probability of the mission.

"We can figure things out as we go along," Quinn finally said, snapping me out of my thoughts. "I mean we are supposed to be there, and I think we will know why when the time is right."

"Yeah, I guess," I mumbled. I was still uncomfortable not having a solid plan, but then again this is as solid as we can get at the moment. Everything from here on out seems to be more of a gamble than a well-thought-out plan.

"That's just how it goes," Quinn shrugged.

Jean leaned over and whispered to me, "Am I crazy or is she pulling a Levi?"

"What do you mean?" I asked innocently.

"She's responding to things you aren't saying?"

"What are you talking about? I was just talking to her?" I said, seeing if he would believe me. He seemed to and it almost made me feel bad with how confused he looked. I looked at Marco who seemed to already understand that Jean was right. She was a mind reader, but I was just messing with him.

I'm just glad she went along with it. Marco even seemed to understand and even joined in. "yeah babe didn't you hear him?"

"Sorry, I guess I just zoned out for a minute," he said, rubbing the back of his head. I think he was really going to question me until Marco joined in. Marco really sold the ruse.

"Yeah, he was saying how everything is a gamble and how we don't have a solid plan because of how crazy things are right now," Levi said looking at Jean like he was annoyed we had to repeat everything.

Everyone else just seemed to stay quiet. Either noticing that we were screwing with Jean or being equally as out of the loop. Poor Armin. I could see Alastair about to lose it behind Quinn. He ended up turning around so he could smile without being caught.

"We should probably tell the rest of them about our powers right?" Alastair asked.

"Yes," I said before looking at Quinn telling her to skip the mind-reading power for now and we will explain it later to them. This was just too fun to drop the act now.

"Alright, Alastair, why don't you go first, and don't leave out anything," Quinn said, shooting him a look.

He just sighed and nodded. "Should I demonstrate?" he asked the others and I watched as they all nodded.

He gave that smooth smile as he pulled his sweater back off. I pried my eyes away from him in favor of looking at Jean and Marco. I was not disappointed when I saw their jaws practically hit the floor. The face they made when his wings popped out was even better. I can't even describe the shock that went through their faces. They looked absolutely amazed.

He explained that power before moving onto mass manipulation. Everyone seemed really intrigued throughout his whole talk. After he finished showing off that power and explaining it I watched him paused for a moment. He looked at Quinn for a minute before taking a deep breath. "My last power is one that I don't really like to share, but I will since it's for the mission," he said and I saw Hassam sit up. He must be confused hearing that Alastair has three powers since this is news for him, but he stayed quiet and just watched.

"My last power is Shadow Manipulation, and it could look a little scary," he said, giving everyone a warning before deciding to show it off. We watched as the shadows of his wings changed and morphed into demonic-looking wings. The shadow behind him was no longer his own but a weird being that looked demonic and sent chills down my spine. Alastair's eyes were pitch black again with the black veins going down, but where the shadow's eyes would be they were a chilling dark red that almost glowed. The shadow moved from behind him over to Quinn. It held up another shadow in its hand which looked almost like a shadow of a rose.

Quinn saw the people's faces around us and they looked scared, she could probably hear their thoughts and I think she tried to ease their worries. "Again it might look scary, but he's just a hopeless romantic goofball," she smiled putting her hand on the shadow rose accepting it.

The demonic being looked pleased and disappeared going back to Alastair's normal shadow. The rose in Quinn's hands disappeared and the room was left dead silent.

"That's an amazing power," Jean said, breaking the silence, "can you do it again!"

"Jean," Marco elbowed him.

"Sorry, it was just really cool."

I watched as Alastair's muscles relaxed a little at that and he cracked a smile. "Your turn my love," he said looking at Quinn.

She rolled her eyes and didn't even bother arguing this time just stepping forward. "I won't be demonstrating my powers, since some of them could be dangerous," she said to start. She explained her first two powers before shooting me an apologetic look, "and lastly yes I am a mind reader, you weren't going crazy," she said and Jean glared at me.

"I fucking knew it!. You're all assholes," he said looking at Levi, Marco, and me."
