The Stranger

On a cliff overlooking the fortress, a dark red dragoness with black and purple streaks sits at her easel painting the sky and taking a moment to look at the fortress, as was her duty. On one of her glances, she noticed a mist roll into the fortress out of nowhere followed by several lightning strikes which stop as suddenly as they start. She gathers her supplies and hides them in her cave and goes to the edge of the cliff. She opens her wings and flies to the fortress.

She lands outside the fortress and sees the broken gate and bodies of dark creatures. She walks into the fortress, carefully avoiding stepping on bodies and looks around listening for any sound. She hears a heavy sigh and rushes to the source to see a dragon covered in its own blood, fatally wounded, curled around something. She reaches out a hand to the dragon to check for life and he moves his head to look at her. "Rehtom, is that you? Have you come to take me home?" He asks. She looks at him with a questioning stare and then responds, "No, I am Eilla." He blinks and sighs. "So I still live, for now." He says and lays his head down. "Why did you attack this place by yourself?" She asks him. "I am not alone, however the question of why is one that is answered in two parts.

"First, consciously, I needed to prove myself to myself. Prove that I was worthy of living by avenging my mate by finding the one that took her from me and killing it. I succeeding in finding it but it escaped my grasp. You may wonder why I did not wait for it to move to an easier target. That would better answered in the next part.

"Second, subconsciously, perhaps I wanted to die. That would explain why all common sense faded and why I did not listen to lifelong friend. I only wish I could apologize to him."

He now lowers his head in shame in sorrow and lets his tears flow freely from his eyes. Eilla rubs his back in an attempt to comfort him and sees that she cannot do anything to help and she starts to walk away.

"Wait!" Storm calls out. She turns and walks back. "Can you do something for me, please?" He asks. She nods. He rolls over to reveal a scorched dragon that is knocked out. "Could you take care of my son, Kalith?" He asks desperately. "Please?" "Why. I don't even know you. You don't know me. Why would you trust me with him? Why did you even bring him." She asks in confusion. "I don't know why I would trust you and I don't know why I brought him. All I know is that I may have killed him." He then closes his eyes and tells her what happened.

"Are you ready?" Storm asks. Kalith nods and closes his eyes. The temperature drops and a thick mist rolls in. Storm smiles and closes his eyes. Lightning strikes fall down to the ground branching out and jumping from creature to creature.

"It was the perfect plan. Neither of us were supposed to get hurt. However, I failed to account for impulsiveness and anger." Storm says sadly.

After his job was done, Kalith opens his eyes and looks around. He hears and sees the lightning and remembers his mother's death. His memory make him angry and he yells and charges at the creatures. Storm, hearing his yell, yells at him to stop but he was too far gone to hear. Storm runs after him terrified of losing him. His terror causes him to lose control of his lightning and one of the strikes Kalith. The lightning stops and the mist starts to go away. "Kalith!" Storm yells and he rushes over to him and shifts into his quadrupled form and covers him with his body and wings. The creatures attacked Storm until they were called away to a different site.

"Now you know what I did." "Yes. I know that you killed your own son. He is dead now and soon you will be too. I am sorry but I cannot help you."  Ellia runs away, tears pouring from her eyes, and flies to her cliff and prepares to send a message to the council. She picks up her pen but she cannot get herself to write. She sighs and decides to go to bed.
