I wanted to write an X Male Reader story that's different than most I've seen and read. I used to be a Civil War reenactor and I've written in my journal like a soldier would write back in the 1860s. I've loved it until the virus had to show up in our country and I had to retire.

So, when I watched Food Wars for the first time, I was hooked and I thought, "I gotta insert a male reader inside the show", and that's when I saw my first gangster movie, which is "Goodfellas" from 1990 and how it played out was a kid who wanted to be a gangster and went through so much hard work that eventually he would get the opportunity to join. I wanted to do something like that in my Food Wars story but not actually like a script because it would get confusing. I looked back at some of my writings from my reenacting days and I thought, "Maybe I can do this type writing in 'Professionals'". I tried it out with the introduction and I thought, "I gotta have an opening line that could hook the reader in the story immediately". So I looked at Ray Liotta's opening line in Goodfellas, which he said, "As far back as I can remember, I've always wanted to be a gangster". I knew "gangster" wouldn't work because it would be copyright, so I took out that word and added "chef" at the end. I read it, and I knew it was perfect.

Quite catchy too.

Throughout the introduction, I improvised a lot of the experience in Japan. I wanted to make the introduction sound like it was telling you a story about how the reader moved to Japan and had to deal with the new lifestyle that was hard for him. And I had to put "My stepfather died when I was just a little kid", to make the introduction more sympathetic, but actually a great way to start the story.

I had to add Gin into the story early because he was a little bit of a hardass when I watched the anime, so I had to cut a little bit of that out and actually turn him into a nice enough guy.

And Erina Nakiri. SHE IS A BITCH IN THE ANIME AND IN THE MANGA! You know I had to change a little bit of that too, which we'll get to later on. I didn't want to add Souma into the introduction at least not yet because I wanted to save him for the "God Tongue" chapter and so on.
