Part 29
Izuku was on top as Tokoyami was at the front with Ochako and I at the rear. As soon as the signal to 'Go' went off, we were immediately in the eye of the tornado, and it was not peaceful.
As predicted, everyone charge our way. Izuku looked to us and yelled, "Up, now!" Ochako and I nodded and used both of our quirks to lift us up high above the students. "If we keep on doing this, we can last till the end."
"Then entire time?" I ask a bit worried.
He shook his head. "No, I can't have Uraraka get sick, and you go insane, we will land and run for most of it."
"So we'll only fly when we're cornered." Tokoyami nodded.
"Yeah, so just a few more seconds. The teams are going after each other right now, so we'll land and run soon." We all looked down. It looked like multiple clumps of ants trying to conquer each other. Izuku finds an open area and points us to it. "There, let's go!" Everything happens in high speed, and it amazes me on how I'm able to keep up with all of it.
The amount of times we had to go up in the air and using my quirk to block or attack the other teams, was taking a toll. Though normally, I would have went insane by now, but having Izuku nearby and even occasionally leaning on my shoulder was a huge help in keeping me calm. It was still eating at me though, bit by bit. When Bakugo attacked, I nearly went to fight them until Izuku's hand gripped onto my shoulder as soon as another team, who I assumed was from 1-B, distracted them from us.
We were soon head to head against Todoroki's team, and I had a bad feeling about this. They charged our way and immediately started attacking. Our only way of defense was Tokoyami and I while Izuku protected the head bands, and Ochako to keep us moving. We were all panting, the rest were getting closer to their limits, and I was getting frustrated. Their team though, suddenly bolted forward at an immense speed, passing right by us before we could even react. I look back and see them with Izuku's head band. My blood runs hot from anger. Izuku stuttered in shock.
Ochako was the first one to react properly. "Come on! We have to get it back! There's only one minute left!"
I nod. "Damn right! Go!" We both push Tokoyami forward, nearly causing Izuku to fall off, and we all went for it. In one immense attack, while Izuku distracted Todoroki, and I was nearly blinded and burned by a wave of flames, I reached high and managed to get one head band, praying it was the 10 million. Then suddenly the race against time was over as the horn sounded. We set Izuku down, but before we could do anything, he apologized.
"I-I'm so s-sorry that I-I couldn't get the 10 million back y-you guys." He was trying to fight through his tears. "I know you all really wanted to win this."
My heart started to ache at his pain. I placed a hand on his shoulder and brought him closer. "Hey, hey. It's okay. We all did all we could to win. This isn't something we're gonna hate you for you know. It wasn't a complete loss."
Tokoyami nodded. "She's right. Cause while you were fighting," Me and him lifted up the bands we managed to swipe, "We got these off of him while he was distracted."
"See? You did a great job." I look at the bands I snatched. "We didn't get the 10 million, but I got a few hundred points here, so that means..." I smile as Izuku's eyes sparkle
"We're in-"
"Fourth Place, Team Izuku!" Midnight announces.
"We get to move on?" He slowly looks around at all three of us, we nod happily. He began tearing up again and then two waterfall seem to explode from his eyes as he busts through the ground.
"WHAT THE SHIT?!" I jump in surprise. The two laugh as he reaches to hug my legs again and cries his eyes out, drenching my uniform.
(Time Skip)
The Sports Festival soon had a break for a while, so we were gonna meet up with the rest of our class until Bakugo yelled my name and marched up.
"Come with me, I need to have a word with you."
I look towards Izuku with a sweat drop and I'm sure a confused face. "I guess I'll be back." I squeezed his hand, and let go to follow after Bakugo who was already stomping away.
We make it to an empty hall way near an exit away from anyone else. "You're not gonna try and fight me here are you?"
He sighs and leans on the wall with his hands in his pockets, I lean on the opposite with my arms crossed. "No, I'm not stupid. I'm going to win first place after all, and I'm not about to have you jeopardize that."
"Cool, then why did you bring me here?"
"I wanted to know, what the hell are you?" I was about to crack a joke, but his face held such a seriousness with his question, that I refrained myself.
"Alright, can you be more specific with your question please?"
"I thought this same question about Deku. But I wanna know, are you All Might's love child or something like that?"
I thought I'd laugh at a question like that since All Might and I are nothing alike, but decided not to and quit my whole joking side. I took in one breath and sighed. "No, I'm not his child."
"Then some kind of human experiment?"
"Yes. You know this, you were in the class when my past was explained. What, do you think that's all a lie?"
"I honestly don't know anymore. The person I hate the most just got a wild quirk and has some kind of tie with All Might, and then you come along, with a wild background that sounds like it just came out of a comic book. Deku's situation feels almost as complex as yours for some reason. So I felt that I needed to hear it from the horse's mouth. Though I guess you don't look like you're lying." He says, eyeing me suspiciously.
I hummed, listening intently to the gist of what he was thinking about. I'm equally surprised on how calm he is talking to me. Still with a bit of attitude, but calm. I continue to prolong this conversation cause I think this is a part of him I won't see often after this, gotta cherish the moment. "Well, now that I answered your questions, answer mine. Why are you always trying to one up me whenever you get the chance? Not even Todoroki goes after me like that."
"Tch!" He looks off to the side angry. "That's because that half and half bastard hasn't went up against you to know you're a threat."
"A threat?" Why do I feel kind of flattered?
He looks me right in the eyes. "Yeah. That answers your question. I always target others that I see are threats to me becoming The #1 Hero. So I train hard every day to make sure I'm always better than everyone else." He looks back away. "That's why I don't try to be nice to anyone either. It's a waste of time and effort. I don't need friends."
"I don't think that's true. Even for you." He snaps his head back to me. "You have Kirishima as a friend. And you can't deny that. He's a good person, and a great ally. Though I'm sure you understand that an ally and a friend are two different things, yet you have him as both, whether you did so intentionally or not. Your not dumb, I know that. So you must know that even if you become the #1 Hero, you can't do everything by yourself, no matter how fast or strong you are, and there is nothing wrong with that. Even All Might has allies, and just as many friends. That's because he can't handle everything by himself." He looks to the ground, not upset as before, and only grunts to himself.
"Yeah." He gruffed out more so as a whisper.
"You may not like me, I wouldn't be upset if you even hated me, but I haven't been fair to you either. Though even during all that, I'm still willing to have your back if you will let me." I drop my arms, and held out my hand to him. "We don't need to be friends if you don't want to, but I would like to start over by being your ally. You may think that you won't need my help, but I know I might need yours, cause no matter how strong we are, there will always be someone stronger than me, so, how about it? When the time comes, will you consider helping me?"
He stared at my hand, twitching, looking almost hesitant. He slowly brought out his hands and brought one forward until we both stopped by a sudden familiar voice. We separate and listen intently. It was Todoroki and Izuku talking in the next hall at the exit several feet from us. They didn't know we were there.
The more we listened the better insight we got on Todoroki, his past, and his father Endeavor. He explained why he never uses his quirk and his confusion on how Izuku's quirk looks similar to All Might's. I see Bakugo glance back at me questioningly.
I make eye contact, shook my head, and shrugged, lying, as if I didn't know what he meant by that. We tuned back into the conversation. Todoroki emphasizes how his comparisons between the two Top Heros and them two are strange, but knocks it off by declaring his reasoning for wining and leaves it at that. Izuku leaving soon after.
I quietly huff to myself, nervous how Bakugo is taking this, but he simply puts his hands back in his pockets, and looks at me for a moment, as if in thought. Tilting my head, he finally rolls his eyes and nods.
"Fine, allies." He says, and leaves the way we came without another word. I just smile and run down the other hall.
