Chapter 12 ~ Hanging Out At The Lake
(Y/n)'s Perspective
~ • ~
A whine escaped my lips as I was gently shaken.
"(Y/n)... it's time to wake up..."
"Nooooo..." I whine and nuzzle my face into the pillow.
"Come on, I made breakfast!"
"I'm not hungry... I'm tired..."
"I'll let you go back to sleep after." I felt I could compromise with that. A whimper escaped me as I slowly sat up and kicked my feet off the bed. A sudden wave of cold air hit my chest and I remembered what happened. "U-uh... you might want to put on a shirt." He handed me one.
"Thank you, Splendor..." I put it on and got up. He nodded at me. I looked over in the bed and Kai was gone. "Wh-where's...?—"
"He went back to Slender's Mansion. He wanted to get some work done and then come back and show you something." I nodded, I felt a little sad he'd leave without saying goodbye, but I was also too tired and in pain to care.
We went down stairs, I was tiredly stumbling behind. There was food at the table and it smelled delicious. I turned to Splendor and smile.
"Thank you for making breakfast Splendor!" I think back to my thin stomach and how I hadn't eaten in days, almost a week now.
"It's not a problem (Y/n)! Come on! I'll get you something to drink!" Splendor's regular happy go lucky self seemed to return... maybe he was just being soft earlier in the room.
I take a seat and Splendor pushes me in. I get a glass of milk from Splendor and thank him. He joins me at the table and since our plates were already out we ate. I was happy I could finally eat with someone. No more sneaking food and starving for days or weeks.
"Hey Splendor?" I hum to him. He looks at me, still holding his casual smile.
"Yes?" He hummed back to me, a little playfully. I smiled and giggled a little before asking my question.
"What are your brothers like?" Splendor seemed to be caught off guard by that. He coughed and looked at me.
"What's with the sudden interest?" He asked, sounding really shocked and confused.
"Because they're your family and I want to get to know them!" I say innocently.
"You shouldn't be near them, they're dangerous to be around."
"Why?"
"Because they're serial killers." He said, rather harshly, making me tense.
"I-I'm aware...!" He paused.
"You know?"
"Kai explained it! A-and I've watched the news..."
"Alright... but that's doesn't mean you can go near them."
"But why?"
"Because they can hurt you."
"And?"
"(Y/n) please stop."
"But it's not fair Splendor... I don't want to only be allowed to talk to you and my brother." He went silent at that. I sighed and finished eating.
There was a while of uncomfortable and awkward silence. I tap my nails on the table. I could feel Splendor staring at me.
"Maybe... maybe you can hang out with Trender." I perk and looked at him. He still looked upset about the whole thing, but at least he's trusting enough to give me the chance. I smiled a little.
"Ok..."
"Changing the subject!" Splendor exclaimed louder than needed. "I wanted to take you to the lake. Because we can go like swimming and stuff and I know you liked drawing out there the other day."
I nodded and smiled at him. At least he wasn't trapping me in the house.

I had put on my swimsuit, while Splendor had on some swim trunks and a button up shirt that was old and he said he didn't mind getting wet. I had brought my sketchbook along as well, but I left that on a rock.
Me and Splendor went in the water and just relaxed. I didn't really know how to swim, so I was pretty much holding onto Splendor the whole time. It was a little embarrassing considering that I didn't explain it to him, he just thought I wanted to cling onto him.
"It's surprisingly a good day for swimming, usually it's not that great..." He sounded really calmed and relaxed, which made me calm down.
"Yeah..." I nuzzle his shoulder and relax in his arms. I could feel him tense up for a second, but then calm back down. "Hey Splendy?"
"Yes (Y/n)?"
"C-can I tell you some—"
"Splendor! What are you doing out here?!" We looked over at the shore and see Splendor's brothers.
"Uh, (Y/n) can you stay here?" My grip suddenly tightens on him.
"Splendor I can't swim...!" I whispered slightly, I always found it embarrassing. He looked at me, then his brothers.
"Alright, then just hangout in the shallows." I nodded.
We swam, well... he swam back over, I held onto him. He left me near some rocks in the shallow, the water wasn't that deep so I was alright with it.
"What are you doing out here? With her?" Slender demanded to know from Splendor. I peeked over from the rocks, when I was suddenly lifted up from the rocks by a tentacle.
I glance over and see it's Offender holding me. He had taken off his boots and rolled up his pant legs then walked over enough to grab me. He spun me around a little, making me squeak.
"Offender, put her down, that's inappropriate." I hear Trender scoff, distracting me from listening to Splendor and Slender's conversation, or argument, whichever it was.
"I just want to take a look." Trender's face scrunched in annoyance.
"She's a living thing, not something for you to stare at."
"She's still good looking." I blink at this.
"U-uh... thanks...? C-can you put me down?" I ask.
"Mm... in a minute."
"O-ok..." I just wait, at least until I feel something poke my butt. I squeak and smack the tentacle. I heard him growl but he set me down and I was quickly grabbed again by Splendor.
My stomach twisted uncomfortably, oh I was starting to feel sick. I felt like I've been thrown like a beanbag from one person to another. I lean against Splendor, looking for comfort. I tense when Trender knelt down and examined me.
"This is a very expensive designer swimsuit. Where'd you get it?" He asked, probably to see if I knew. I just shrugged.
"I-I don't know..." He nods.
"You wear some relatively decent clothes, I'd like to inspect your closet."
"O-ok..." I say, avoiding looking at him, feeling awkward.
All this excitement was making me tired, at this point, I just wanted to go back and cuddle. I grabbed my towel and wrap it around myself and sit down and cuddle myself.
Trender seemed to be able to tell I was uncomfortable as Slender and Splender argue and Offender kind of just listened. He picked up my sketchbook and sat beside me. I glance at him and he looks at me.
"Is it alright to see what's in here?" I nod and watch over his shoulder so I could explain.
He flipped to page one. It was a flower garden with a girl on a swing. She had long flowing brown hair and a white dress. If the middle of the rope holding up the wooden swing was "Sketchbook 12" in a plain font.
"What inspired this?" He asked, tracing a finger over it lightly, admiring the details which made me smile.
"I have dreams, a lot of them. This one was of my mother. In this breath taking garden, I could hear her whispers saying the atmosphere was breath taking. She could only show me so much before she had to go. However, I-I don't know what my mom looks like anymore. I can only see through her eyes in my dreams and she has no access to a mirror. I painted her from memory. Long, soft, brown hair. She loved the color white, so I put her in this. It's like a simplified version of her wedding dress."
He nodded and turned to the next page. They were just sketches of dogs and cats, even a couple snakes and lizards.
"I've always wanted a pet. But I'm not "responsible enough" but they just didn't want to take care of it when I was at school because they don't like animals." I explain. I then motion to the butterfly at the far corners of the pages. "I tried to do a little transition thing to practice with butterflies, but I kind of forgot about it after a few pages."
The next page was filled with people I'd draw when I'm at the park. There were mostly people on benches or kids climbing in the trees. I also drew a guy who was doing a photo shoot. He took some pictures of me and gave them to me, those were paper clipped to the page. He took them and shuffled through them.
"This was fun to do. It got weird though when he noticed my bruises."
"You look nice in these, I can see the bruises though." He points them out and I nod. I didn't feel comfortable to talk about how I got them though, so I didn't say anything. He clipped them back and changed the page.
There were more doodles of my mother in the simplified wedding dress and the actual one. I also had some drawings of flowers. I figured he knew what this was and he turned the page. I got a little excited about this one.
"This is the landscape I was sketching before I met Splendor." He looked at it and then the lake.
"It looks like the view of the lake from the cliff up there." He motions to it and I nodded.
"Yeah, I was up there. I didn't realize how far off the trail I went and somehow ended up there. But Splendor found me and helped me back to the park." I point to some writing I had written with a bunch of smiley faces around it.
"I made a friend today!" Was the note. One the next page were tears and... red.
"Is that...?" He asked but didn't want to say the word.
"Yeah..." I rubbed my arm. "I got in a lot of trouble for sneaking out."
He turned the page to get off the topic but found more pages with blood and doodles. Finally he got to one without it. It was one of my more recents. It was a sketch of Splendor.
"Hey that looks really good!" He lifts up the sketchbook a little and holds it up to compare. I giggle.
"Thanks... I don't really show anyone my sketchbooks."
"It's ok to show people, you're really good." I smiled at him. I take the sketchbook from him and flip to the back. It was a rough sketch of an elder woman playing a piano, kind of similar to the one I had in my room.
"My grandmother's piano. I remember her playing it every night before bed and my mom getting mad at her because she was keeping me and my brother up. But she'd always end up playing a song and my mom would sing." I nuzzled him, feeling comfortable, he didn't seem to mind. He examined it.
"This is the piano you have in your room... yes?" I nod. "Do you play the piano?"
"Sometimes. I really only practice learning songs on the piano so I don't have to sing them a cappella."
"You sing too?" He asked and I nodded, blushing a little embarrassed.
"S-since I was able to talk."
"Can I hear?" He asked, I cover my face embarrassed.
"I-I don't usually sing in front of people..."
"That's alright. Maybe some other time." He just wanted to make sure I was comfortable, I could tell.
It was working, because while Slender and Splendor were talking I fell asleep on him.
