chapter nine

Jowljumped off the ship landing heavily on the pier I waited a fewmoments then I landed on the pier with out a noise the crew looked atme suspiciously I walked a few steps forward then I broke into a runJowls eye popped out of their sockets

"Nimrodsget her" I heard him shout

thenI heard creates drop and the thundering of feet on wood it only mademe run faster I looked back for a bleak second and saw they were soclose I ran down an ally way turned a corner then I skidded to a stopat a dead end I turned around heart pumping I looked up the walls itwas a good 50 or 60 meters high

"itsnow or never" I thought

thenI jumped and every thing happened so fast I was bounding from wall towall then landed with a plonk as I fell full length on a slantingroof and I thanked the stars when my foot got caught in the tiling Iyelped in pain as my ankle began to throb I could imagine myself asflat as a pancake on the ground below I shook that thought off notthinking of how the hell I achieved climbing such a mass hight andpulled myself up and peered over the edge and saw the tangled legsand arms as the Spanish tried to untangle them selves I looked awayand carefully made my way down the edge of the building trying toignore the pain in my ankle I saw an old pipe visions and memories ofpeople falling off old broken pipes flowed through my head I alsopushed such thoughts aside and slipped over the side of the obscureslanting house and then I clung on to the pole and slid down itlanding softly on the cobble stone ground finally I sighed ignoringthe voice in my head telling me it was safer on the roof

wipingthe sweat from my forehead I looked around now I was completely lostin the maze of houses and streets then I heard feet drumming againstthe pavement my heart skipped a beat as I turned in the direction ofthe noise I cried out the men the same men I had left behind in theally way were running at me their feet keeping in time with oneanother making them sound like elephants I took off running againalong the streets and curves in the road around crates and dust binsas fast as I could until... I started slowing down out ofbreath, dehydrated and in pain at some stage in an up hill track theygot me. seizing me by the arms and carting me back I was tooexhausted to kick about and was soon held up in front of Jowl who wasstanding out side one of the many pubs in the district the sun justpeaked over the numerous buildings as it slowly began to set he hadhis hands on his hips and a frown played across his lips

"Itold you they could catch you" he said

ashe took a step forwards bringing his fist back he punched me in thestomach I yelped as I felt my old wound open and blood slowly leakdown my side he gave the men a nod and they let me fall to the groundI said nothing to tired to speak

"youI will deal with you later we are leaving"

hegrabbed me by the hair and dragged me too my feet I yelp with pain asmy hair was pulled. my joints screamed their protests as I limpedbehind Jowl and his sheep admitting defeat and having no hope ofescape I obeyed his every word
