Before Dr. Porter could answer, a little cry came from the newborn. It sounded weak and that worried everyone in the room.

"Your baby is having some trouble breathing." Dr. Porter said. "We are taking her to the NICU to get the help she needs."

Jessica sobbed as Danny tried to calm her down.

"Jessica, we are going to take really good care of your baby girl." One of the nurses said. "We will update you with some news as soon as we can."

Another nurse rushed out of the room with the baby in her arms. She rushed to the NICU to get the help the baby needed.

"Jessica, I need you to calm down, okay." Dr. Porter said. "You still need to deliver the placenta. I know you're worried but you're not out of the woods yet. You need to concentrate on yourself for a moment."

*In the waiting room*

Shannon was holding Rick's hand tightly; he was very nervous about his mother and new sibling. Rick gave Shannon a small smile then he leaned in and kissed her lips. They pulled away and looked at each other lovingly. No matter how many arguments they had and how close they thought they were to getting a divorce, it was in this moment that they realized that they could get through anything.

Their marriage was strong enough and they knew that their dream of becoming parents would happen someday.

John and Abigail sat next to each other and were sending silent prayers for a safe delivery.

Suddenly, they looked up when they heard a door open then a nurse rushing away from the room. They could just make out a baby bundled up in some blankets.

They stood up and John asked. "Was that mom's room?!"
"Yeah, oh my gosh. What's happening?!" Abigail said in a panic.

A few seconds later, Sarah walked out of the room and ran over to the waiting room.
Sarah volunteered to let everyone know what was going on.

"Jessica is doing fine. She just needs to deliver the afterbirth." She said with tears in her eyes. "The baby however is having trouble breathing. They rushed her over to the NICU."
"Her?" Shannon asked. "It's a girl?"
"Yes." Sarah said with a nod. "It's a girl. Now, we all just have to pray that the baby will pull through."

Sarah decided to stay with everyone in the waiting room until they moved Jessica into another room. Evan hugged Sarah for comfort; she was really scared for her best friend and the baby.

A few minutes later, Jessica delivered the afterbirth. Danny of course by her side the whole time.

Jessica was cleaned up and moved into a new room where she waited anxiously for news on her baby girl.

Sarah and Evan decided to stay in the waiting room while they gave Jessica's children some space so they could be there for their mother.

Abigail, Rick, John and Shannon went into the room and comforted Jessica to the best of their abilities.

"I want to see my baby!" Jessica sobbed. "I need to know if she is okay."
"Mom, please calm down." Rick said. "You're going to make yourself sick."
"I just need to see her!" Jessica said, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Jessica was so tired and emotional; she didn't know how much more waiting she could take.

Danny's hand squeezed Jessica's hand a little tighter. Jessica looked over at Danny and looked into his eyes.

"It's going to be okay, Jess." Danny said. "If she is anything like her mother then I know she will pull through. She has Lange blood in her and I know your baby girl will be okay."

Jessica smiled a little and closed her eyes. Danny was so sure of his statement that it made Jessica calm down immensely. Exhaustion then overtook Jessica and she fell right to sleep.

"Mom!" Rick jumped out of his seat; Shannon right by his side. He thought something was wrong with his mother because she was talking one minute then her eyes closed the next.

"It's alright." Danny said softly. "She just fell asleep. Let's let her rest and hopefully by the time she wakes up, we will have news about the baby."

All three siblings and daughter in law nodded and all bowed their heads. Their fears of losing their mother were at the forefront of their minds and they for sure weren't ready to say goodbye to her. They still needed their mother by their sides. There were still so many memories they wanted to make with her, especially with Abigail. Now that she and her mother were on the road to patching up their relationship, she for sure didn't want to lose her mother.

Again they prayed with all their might that Jessica would get the rest she needed and that they would receive good news about their baby sister.

Jessica was still sleeping two hours later. Everyone was still waiting around the room quietly.

A knock on the door brought everyone out of their thoughts. They looked up to see to see Dr. Porter walking in. But, he wasn't alone.

"Jessica..." Dr. Porter said gently. "Jessica."

Jessica stirred then opened her eyes.

"Sorry to wake you, but there is someone who wants to meet you." He said with smile.

Jessica looked at what Dr. Porter was pushing and she perked up. She smile and raised her bed with Danny's help.

"Say hello to your baby girl." Dr. Porter said as he lifted the baby from the clear bassinet. He then placed the baby in Jessica's arms and he said. "She gave us quite a scare.
She was having trouble breathing but she pulled through. I guess she was just anxious to get back to you."

Jessica chuckled and smiled down the baby with tears of joy in her eyes. They then gently rolled down her cheeks.

"As you can see, she has a nasal cannula to help give her extra oxygen. I'm going to be keeping you both in the hospital for the next forty eight hours just to be on the safe side and keep on eye on the both of you." Dr. Porter said. "She is six pounds eight ounces by the way. She's tiny but, she has proved that she is a fighter."
"Thank you, Neil." Jessica said with a smile still looking down her baby girl.
"You don't have to thank me. It was all little miss here." He chuckled. "In few minutes, a lactation nurse will be in to help you breastfeed. I'm sure your baby will be hungry when she wakes up. I'll leave you all be now."

Dr. Porter left leaving Jessica, Danny and the three siblings in the room to get to know the baby and bond with her.

"Hi baby girl." Jessica said caressing the baby's cheek. "I fought so hard for you and I'm so glad that you are okay. I love you so so much. I think...I think I'm going to name you, Lillian Grace...well, I guess I'll figure out your last name later." Jessica chuckled a little then looked up at her children and said. "Come say hi to your baby sister."

They smiled and stood up; they then walked over to meet their new sibling.

Jessica placed Lillian in Abigail's arms, careful of the tubes helping the baby get extra oxygen then she laid back as she watched her children bond with their baby sister.

"Oh my goodness!" Abigail said with a smile and tears. "Hi Lillian, I'm your big sister Abigail. It's so nice to meet you. Again I just want to say, that I'm sorry for all the horrible things I've said. Holding you now and seeing you makes my heart so happy that you are here. Welcome to our crazy family. Oh! You're such a cutie!"

After some time, Rick was next to hold his baby sister and Shannon stood right by him looking down at the baby with smile on her face.

"Hello Lillian, I'm your big brother Rick and this your sister in law Shannon." Rick said with a chuckle as he looked down at his sister. "If someone would have told me eight months ago that at the age of twenty eight I would have a baby sister, I would have called them crazy. But, now I'm so glad you are in our lives."

Next to hold the baby was John.

"Hi baby sister. I'm your big brother John." He said. "So glad you're okay and that you are here with us. We are going to spoil you rotten! Now, I do have one rule I want you to follow. Absolutely no dating until you're thirty."

Jessica chuckled through her tears as she looked on; her hand holding Danny's.

"All the boys you bring home will have to go through an intense interview from us and if anyone breaks your heart, they will have Rick and I to answer to." John continued.
"And me!" Abigail said.

They all laughed then the baby began to stir.
A knock the door interrupted the family and a nurse walked in.

John returned the baby into his mother's arms and they said goodbye for the night. Now that they knew both their mother and baby sister were going to be okay, the three siblings decided to head home and return in the morning.

When they left, Danny excused himself so Jessica could nurse the baby. But, Jessica stopped him.

"Are you sure Jess?" Danny said as he sat back down.
"Yes. Please don't go." Jessica said.

The baby was now crying and her cries now sounded much stronger which made Jessica very happy.

The nurse then helped Jessica unbutton the nursing gown that Jessica had on. The nurse then helped Jessica get the baby to latch. After three tries, the baby finally latched and was now suckling. The nurse excused herself so Jessica could bond with the baby.

Jessica couldn't take her eyes off of Lillian. She placed a gentle kiss on her forehead as she continued to eat from her mother's breast.

Jessica looked up to find Danny looking at her in awe.

"What?" Jessica chuckled then smiled.
"You're so beautiful." Danny said. "You are always beautiful but, seeing you nursing your baby just...just makes you so much more radiant."
Jessica blushed and said shyly. "Thank you."

It was quiet for a few minutes, the only sound was the baby suckling.

Once the baby had her fill, Jessica covered up then brought the baby up to her shoulder to burp.

After the baby burped, Jessica cradled the baby in her arms then she turned to Danny.

"Danny...I want to thank you for being here for me through my labor and the delivery." Jessica said. "I couldn't have done it without you."
"You don't have to thank me." Danny said. "Thank you for letting me stay in the room so I could be there for you. It was the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed."
"How were you so calm?" Jessica asked. "Phillip wasn't that way with our older children. He wasn't even in the room."
"Well, I, uh...I checked out some books from the library about pregnancy, labor and delivery." Danny said. "Even though I wasn't sure if I would be in the room with you, I guess you could say I studied." He chuckled. "I also checked out some videos about child birth."

Jessica was shocked but was very touched; she smiled and tears appeared in her eyes. "You did that for me?"
Danny nodded and said. "Of course. I would do anything for you."

Jessica's tears rolled down her cheeks and she motioned for Danny to come closer. Danny moved to her side and she caressed his cheek then guided him towards her lips. Jessica kissed him and he kissed her back.

After moment, they pulled away and Jessica said. "I love you so much, Daniel."
"I love you too, Jessica." Danny said. "With all my heart."

They stayed close; Danny looked down at the baby. Jessica looked at Danny and asked. "Would you like to hold her?"
Danny looked up and said. "Yes."

Jessica carefully placed Lillian into Danny's arms and Danny smiled down at her and said. "Well, hello Lillian. It's so good to meet you. I'm Danny. Just so you know, I love your mommy very much and I'm glad to have her in my life. One day, I'm going to marry her if she says yes. But, we'll take things one step at time." He chuckled then continued. "Also, I'm glad to have you in my life and can't wait to watch you grow up. Welcome to the world Lillian Grace."

Jessica smiled wide as she watched Danny holding and speaking to her daughter. In this moment, having her children and the love her life by her side, Jessica felt like the most luckiest women on earth.
