Blessed
*1 Year Later*
Jessica woke up in her husband's arms. She smiled as she felt the rise and fall of chest. She hugged him a little tighter, wanting to relish the feeling of having his body next to hers.
Two months after Lillian's birth, Jessica was finally free from Phillip. Usually a divorce would take much longer to complete, however with Abigail's help, the divorce process was much faster.
Also it helped that Phillip didn't even put up a fight. He just wanted to go his own way and be done with Jessica and her child.
Jessica and Danny got married when Lillian was three months old. They didn't want to wait any longer. They have now been married for the past nine months.
Her moment with her husband was cut short however when she heard Lillian's babbling coming from the baby monitor.
She smiled and turned over to turn down the monitor so it wouldn't wake Danny.
She slipped out of bed and pulled on her robe. She walked across to her daughters nursery and said. "Is the birthday girl awake?"
Lillian was lying on her back and playing with a toy that was in her crib. When she heard her mother's voice, she dropped it and smiled wide.
She sat up then stood up. She clung to the bars of her crib and bounced up and down happily.
"Mama!" Lillian said.
Lillian knew a few words but her favorites were Mama and Dada.
Jessica giggled and picked up her baby girl.
"Good morning, Lily. Happy Birthday! You are one year old today! Oh my goodness. You are getting so big." She said then she kissed Lillian's chubby cheek.
Lillian baby babbled and hugged Jessica real tight as she could. She then pulled away and signed. Milk.
Jessica laughed and said. "Of course, you want your morning fill of mommy's milk. Alright, let's get you fed."
Lillian was old enough to eat solid foods now, but she would still breastfeed in the mornings and at night before bed.
Jessica walked over to the rocking chair that was by the window and sat down. She got Lillian settled in her arms then she pulled up her pajama top.
Lillian latched on and placed her hand on Jessica's breast. She looked up at her mother and Jessica smiled down at her.
She caressed Lillian's cheek and she sang her a lullaby.
Jessica thought back to last year and how Lillian entered this world.
Lillian was early and Jessica was so scared she would lose her due to Phillip. She was so glad Lillian was okay and that Phillip was out of her life.
After singing to her baby girl, Jessica began to speak to her.
"I am so happy to have you in my life, Lillian." She said. "I fought so hard for you and I will continue to do so until my final breath. I love you with all my heart, baby girl."
Lillian just stared at Jessica and smiled for a moment then she went back to nursing from her mother.
"This is the most beautiful sight I have ever seen." Danny said softly from the doorway. "I'm so blessed to be able to see this every morning."
Jessica looked over and smiled at Danny. He was standing there, watching Jessica feed their daughter.
"Good morning, honey." Jessica said.
Danny walked over and kissed her lips. "Good morning, Jess. And good morning to you too. Happy Birthday!"
Lillian stopped suckling and got excited. Her baby talk was coming out fast. She loved her daddy.
"Dada!" She cried out happily.
She reached out for Danny and Danny took her into his arms.
Jessica giggled as she pulled her top down.
"I guess she's done with breakfast."
Danny laughed and kissed Lillian on her cheek.
"I think so." He said.
Jessica stood up and put her arm around Danny's waist. She smiled at her husband and daughter. Her heart felt so full.
Lillian buried her head in the crook of Danny's neck and held on tight.
"Come on, loves. Let's go have some breakfast." Jessica said.
"Alright!" Danny replied. He then tickled Lillian's belly and she laughed loudly.
The family of three walked down to the kitchen and Jessica makes breakfast for them.
After 12 pm, Sara and Evan arrived along with Abigail and Adam.
They were going to help decorate the house for Lillian's birthday party, while Shannon and Rick worked on the food and cake.
It wasn't going to be a big party as there weren't any small children in the family. Jessica however did invite a few parents that she had became friends with from the library.
Sara and Jessica were currently in the living room. They talked about how crazy that Lillian was already a year old.
"So...are you and Evan ready to become parents?" Jessica asked.
Sarah smiled and nodded. She put her hand on her six month pregnant belly and said. "We are so ready! Evan and I are still in shock that it's finally happening for us. We didn't think we would ever have a baby. I'm so so excited, Jess."
Jessica walked over to Sarah and hugged her. "I'm so happy for you and Evan. Finally, Lily will have a playmate." She said with chuckle.
"They'll be best friends, like us." Sarah said with a smile.
They pull away then go back to decorating and talking.
Danny, Evan and Adam were in charge of the decorating outside. Plus they needed to clear out an area for the moon bounce that would arrive some time later.
Lillian was currently upstairs napping.
Before they knew it, Jessica was upstairs getting Lillian ready for her party.
Jessica dressed Lillian in a pink tutu, a white shirt that said One on it and a bow clipped in her her hair.
By now, all their guests has arrived.
Jessica picked Lillian up from the bed and took in her daughters appearance. She smiled with tears in her eyes then kissed her chubby cheek.
"Alright, Lily bean! Let's go say hi to everyone." Jessica said as she lightly bounced her.
Lillian giggled and gripped Jessica tight.
Jessica walked downstairs and Lillian immediately got attacked with hugs and kisses from two of her older siblings.
"Lillian! Come to your favorite sibling!" Abigail said.
"Yeah, right. You wish sis. She likes me better." Rick said as he gently pinched Lillian's cheek.
Lillian smiled and laughed wide and threw herself into Rick's arms. Rick took her into his arms then tickled her belly. Lillian gave out a loud laugh.
"See!" Rick said as he laughed.
Abigail rolled her eyes and laughed. "Whatever, little brother."
"Oh! You two. Stop it!" Jessica chuckled. "She loves all her siblings just the same."
Jessica kissed Lillian's cheek then went to say hello to the parents she was friends with and thanked them for coming.
When Jessica returned to Lillian, Shannon was now holding her and keeping occupied.
Jessica smiled. Shannon loved Lillian and Jessica and Shannon had rebuild their relationship once again. It was much stronger now.
Jessica took a moment to watch Shannon. She knew Shannon would make a wonderful mother. Which would be happening very soon.
Shannon had finally opened up to the idea about adopting.
Her inspiration to do so was Danny. Shannon had seen Danny since day one, be a father to Lillian.
Even though Danny wasn't her biological father, Danny loved her with all his heart. Seeing that made Shannon realize that sometimes, there is so much more to being a parent than biology.
After Jessica and Danny's wedding, Rick and Shannon started the process for adoption.
Now, after months of meetings and waiting, they were close to adopting a baby boy of five months.
Shannon and Rick has met him already and Shannon fell in love with him. Also, her maternal instincts kicked in immediately and she couldn't wait to bring her son home.
Jessica sighed happily then she walked up to Shannon.
"Hey, Jess." Shannon said as Jessica sat next to her.
"Hello, sweetie." Jessica said with a smile.
Lillian looked over and said. "Mama!"
"Hey! My Lily bean!" Jessica said. "Are you having a good time with your sister in law?" She giggled.
Shannon laughed and said. "Oh my goodness! That will never stop being funny! Say, yes mama! I love my sister in law."
They laughed then began to talk and soon they were mingling with everyone else.
They now made their way outside where the moon bounce was and the few kids that were there were excited. They took off their shoes and quickly began to have fun.
Lillian saw the other kids having fun and she fussed when she wanted to go in the moon bounce.
Jessica carried her over and she slipped their shoes off. She then carefully climbed into the moon bounce. She sat in the corner of the moon bounce so she wouldn't get in the way of the other children.
Lillian smiled wide and she clapped her hands she saw the other kids jump. She wanted to jump too.
Jessica chuckled and held onto her Lilian's hands. Lillian stood up and held on tight to her mother's hand.
Lilian then began to bounce up and down. Lillian's laugh was infectious. Jessica laughed with her.
Jessica had tears of joy in her eyes and she saw her baby girl so happy. She watched as Lillian began to squeal with delight.
Shannon heard Lillian's laugh and saw how much fun she was having. Shannon grabbed a camera and walked over to the moon bounce.
Shannon was able to put her body halfway through the entrance of the moon bounce and captured this moment. (Lillian's smile was wide and Jessica looking at her baby with so much love in her eyes. Her smile was beautiful.)
Shannon then stood back and just saw the sweet moment. She couldn't wait to make memories like this with her son.
Shannon then went around and took photos of everything and of everyone.
Soon, Jessica had to get of the moon bounce. Abigail took her place in the moon bounce because Lilian was having too much fun.
Jessica walked into the kitchen to make sure all the food was ready.
"Mom?" John said as he walked into the kitchen.
Jessica turned around and rushed to her son's side. She hugged him tight.
"Sorry we're late." John said as Jessica stepped back to get a good look at him.
"It's okay! I'm so glad you both could make it." Jessica said as she turned to Mathew. John's boyfriend.
Jessica had met Mathew at her wedding and accepted him right away. He was great man and he treated her son well. And most importantly, Mathew loved her son and that's all that mattered to her. As long as John was happy, then she was happy.
Jessica smiled and hugged Mathew. "You both made it just in time to eat. Come on!"
She led them to the backyard and they were greeted by the family.
Soon, Jessica, Abigail, Shannon and Sarah we're serving everyone while Danny and Evan gave everyone their drinks.
All the kids were now out of the moon bounce and were now seated to eat.
Lillian sat in her highchair already eating her food.
Everyone then began to eat and have a casual conversation.
After eating, Danny and Jessica got some games together and the prizes and soon the kids were having more fun.
Before having cake, it was time to hit the piñata.
Danny held Lillian up and helped her hold the stick. He then helped her hit the piñata a few times.
Shannon of course was snapping away on the camera.
Lillian looked confused as to why her daddy was helping her hit this big object. It was in the shape of a cupcake.
Danny chuckled then picked her up to let the next child hit it.
The six children that were there tried their best but the piñata stayed intact.
"Well...who wants to hit the piñata?" Jessica giggled as she held Lillian in her arms.
Rick and John ran and said in unison. "Me!"
"Me first!" Rick said.
"No! I'm first!" John replied.
Shannon shook her head with a smirk and Mathew laughed.
Jessica laughed at her adult children and Danny chuckled as he gave the stick to John first.
"Sorry, Rick. But the younger kid always goes first." Danny said.
"Ah man!" Rick said with a laugh.
John went up first to hit the piñata.
"Alright, Kids! Stand back!" Danny called out as he helped move the kids further away from the piñata. "We don't want you to get hurt."
After the kids move back, John begins to hit the piñata. He hit a three times and was able to crack open a bit.
Next was Rick and after two hits, the piñata bursts open. Candy rained down to the ground and Rick stood back, letting the kids gather up the candy into their goody bags.
Jessica bent down and helped Lillian pick up a few pieces of candy. Lillian picked them up one by one and placed them into the bag.
Once the kids settled down and the big kids too, it was time to sing Happy Birthday to Lillian.
Jessica placed Lillian back in her highchair and Danny brought out a small cake just for Lillian.
He placed it in front of her and she looked up at him wondering what it was. This was her first time trying some cake.
They first sang to Lillian and as they sang, Lillian looked around in awe. She then smiled even though she had no idea what was really going on. She just knew the attention was all on her.
Jessica helped Lillian blow out her candle then they stepped back and watched as Lillian began to put her hands on her cake.
She squished the frosting between her fingers then she brought her hand to her mouth.
She sucked on her hand and her eyes went wide as she finally tasted the sweetness of the frosting.
Everyone chuckled as she went back for seconds.
Soon Lillian was covered in cake and frosting.
As Lillian was enjoying her cake, Abigail and Adam served everyone else a piece of cake from an extra cake that they had bought.
After a long day, the guests began to leave. Then John and Mathew were the first to leave from Jessica's family.
They were staying at a hotel close by and would be back the following day to spend more time with the family.
After cleaning everything up, everyone else left.
Now, it as just Danny, Jessica and Lillian.
Jessica gave Lillian a bath. Lillian had a full day of excitement and now she was yawning. She was really tired.
After her bath, Jessica dressed Lillian in her pajamas and carried her to the nursery.
Lillian was now rubbing her tired eyes and with the other hand she signed milk.
Jessica giggled then placed a kiss on her forehead. She then sat down on the rocking chair and nursed her baby girl.
Lillian was so tired that she only nursed for a minute before falling asleep.
Jessica waited a while before moving. She wanted to be sure that Lillian was really asleep.
She finally moved Lilian away from her breast so she could pull down her shirt. Then she got a better grip on Lillian and walked over to the crib. She kissed Lillian's head and whispered. "I love you baby girl. Always."
She then carefully laid Lillian down in her crib. Jessica then walked out of the nursery to her bedroom.
Jessica was exhausted. She yawned and walked into the bathroom to shower.
Once she was done, she was met by Danny, who was waiting for her on their bed. He was already in his pajamas.
She smiled a tired smile and laid down next to him. She laid her head on his chest and sighed contently.
"Tired, honey?" Danny asked.
"Very." Jessica replied with a chuckle. "But, it was wonderful day. Even though Lillian has no idea what was going on, I'm glad we threw her this party."
"Me too." Danny said. "Jess...thank you for allowing me to be Lillian's father. It's one of the best moments of my life. And now, I can't even imagine my life without you and her. I'm sorry you had to go through so much when you were married to Phillip, but I'm glad that you were finally able to leave him. You and Lillian are my whole world. I love you, Jessica."
Jessica took a moment to think about Phillip. She never did unless he was brought up which wasn't too often.
Phillip lost his farm. He moved in with Mary and he's been there ever since the divorce.
Abigail, Rick and John decided that they wanted nothing to do with their father unless he shows them that he has changed for the better. Which he has not even attempted to change. So, they were glad they cut ties with him when they did.
Phillip now lives his days in shame because now the whole town knows what he did to Jessica. They give him dirty looks and he could hear the things they say about him behind his back.
Mary was even starting to rethink their relationship and was thinking of leaving him too. He was changed man and it wasn't for the better. She couldn't believe the man he was today.
"I love you too, Danny." Jessica said with a smile as she quickly pushed Phillip from her thoughts. He wasn't worth her time.
Danny kissed Jessica's lips and she kissed him back. After working themselves into a frenzy, Jessica pulled back for a moment.
She caressed Danny's cheek, she bit her lip and was about to kiss him again when Danny got distracted.
"What is that? Did we miss one of Lillian's presents? I thought we opened them all?" He asked as he looked at a gift bag that was on Jessica's nightstand.
Jessica looked and said. "Oh! We must have. It was crazy day. Let's see what it is."
Jessica hid her smile and she grabbed the bag as she sat up. Danny sat up in bed too.
"Hmmmm...why don't you open it?" Jessica said as she handed it to him. "I'm too tired. We can put it in Lillian's nursery later."
Danny nodded and opened the bag. He pulled out what was inside then unfolded it. "Oh, a T-shirt. What's it say?" He said then he read what was on shirt.
It was a white T-shirt with pink sleeves and the words Big Sister were printed on it.
"Big sister?" Danny said confused. "Jess...what?" He looked over at Jessica who was smiling wide.
She was also holding out a photo. Danny took it into his hand and looked at it.
Tears appeared in Danny's eyes and he asked. "You're pregnant?" It was an ultrasound photo.
Jessica nodded and said with emotion in her voice. "I am. I'm 8 weeks." She has tears in her eyes too. "Neil said that we are both doing fine."
Danny dropped the shirt and ultrasound and brought Jessica in for hug.
"Oh, Jess! Oh my god." Danny said. "I...I..." He stopped. He was struggling to find the words.
He calmed down and pulled Jessica away. "Jessica Phyllis Lange Huston....you have made me the happiest man in the world! You are giving me another child. I...I know I already said it, but I want to say this as much I can. I love you. I love you and I'm so glad to be spending the rest of my life with you."
Jessica's tears rolled down her cheeks and said. "Thank you for making me the happiest woman in the world. I love you."
Jessica and Danny made love that night. Now they were wrapped in each other's arms, their bodies pressed up against each other.
Danny drifted off to sleep while Jessica laid awake for a moment longer. She smiled as she thought of this next journey of her life and best of all, Danny would be joining her through the entire way.
She put her free hand on her belly and whispered. "Daddy and I love you so much already. I can't wait to meet you baby Huston."
Jessica then closed her eyes and cuddled up close next to Danny. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep thinking how blessed she was to have the life she had now.
