"I would kill to get my hair to look like theirs"

Forks High School looked nothing like it's name suggested. If it wasn't for big sign declaring it as the school, Natalia would have missed it. It looked more look more like a small cluster of government housing then of a high school.

Natalia parked in front of the building a small sign declaring it to be the front office. She hoped that parking so close to the front office would keep other students from coming up to her. Natalia knew moving to a new school in the middle of the year would get attention, and she wanted to lessen that as much as possible

"Everything will be fine," Natalia lies to herself weakly pulling on a newly bought jacket having gotten as soon as she knew she was moving to such a rainy town, and grabbed her bag.

The front office, like the rest of the school, wasn't that attention worthy. It, like most things seemed to be now, was simple. The only note worthy thing about the office was that it was warm.

"Can I help you?" A red haired women says from the desk pulling Natalia's over to her.

"I'm Natalia Lancaster," The teen supplied to the women walking over. The women's eyes light up in reaction, and Natalia had to hold in a huff at the reaction.

Not that Natalia could blame the women. Just a few months ago she herself would of reacted the way. After all a newly emancipated teen who moved from Texas to a small no name town out of no where for unknown reasons, would strike anyone's gossip side.

"Of course," The women says cheerfully moving in a flurry of actions. In what felt only a few seconds a thin stack of papers,"Here's a map of the school, and your schedule. The small paper is for the teachers to sign. Just bring it back at the end of the day. All your teachers were notified about your sunglasses, so you should be good. If you need a copy of the doctor's note at anytime, I can get you a copy."

Natalia nodded at the women thanking her politely, and as she turned her eyes caught onto another scheduled that read 'Isabella Swan'. Giving the women a halfhearted smile she quickly walks out.

Instead of following the few students that had arrived at the school, Natalia went back her car wanting to put off talking to anyone as long as possible. Instead the teen went back to her car turning on a the CD that was last put in. Leaning in her seat she looked over her schedule and the map letting the soft melody of the violin relax her.

It was a few minutes before the bell that Natalia saw them. She had just gotten out of her car pulling her hood up as the rain went from a drizzle to a light rain. No one tried to come up to her as they where already heading to class. Grabbing her bag, Natalia looked up to find a nice Volvo just pulling in.

She watches curiously at such a nice car compared to all the other rundown used car's in the parking lot. As the car's occupants got out Natalia couldn't seem to turn away. Five of the most uniquely beautiful teens Natalia had ever seen.

That wasn't what caught Natalia's attention...well not the only thing at least. Despite them sharing a common unnatural pale skin, and dark eyes from what Natalia could see from across her car, they all looked nothing alike.

The first one out of the car where two girls. It was shocking to see how polar opposite they looked. The tall blonde girl looked almost intimidating even to Natalia who wasn't easily intimidated. Even the way she held herself seemed to catch your attention, but keep you away. Natalia found herself almost wishing she could do the same as well as the girl.

Where the blonde was tall and intimidating the other girl was small and pixie like. She had black hair cut short just barely meeting her chin which seemed to make her even more pixie like. She seemed to glide rather then walk across the parking lot.

Next to the pixie like girl was honey blonde boy. He was tall and lanky, but still built. His stance was as tense, and his face screwed slightly in what looked like slight pain anytime he walked by anyone other then the other teens around him. As if it was hard to be around anyone. Natalia couldn't help but feel sympathetic, even if she didn't know his reason, knowing what it was like not being around people.

The next boy Natalia saw was a bronze haired boy. He was on the pixie girl's other side, and if Natalia didn't see how the honey blonde and pixie girl together, she would have thought they where together. While he was the leanest of the boy's, he wasn't skinny. He was well built.

He was the best looking out of the boy's, but wasn't Natalia's physical preference looking too boyish. Natalia liked more muscular guy even though most guys like that tend to be a the more pompous side.

Which was probably why the last boy caught her eye the most. He had dark curly hair, and was big and burly looking as if he was a serious weight lifter with his muscles. While he had a slightly cocky smile on his face he didn't stand as if he was most important person in the room. Instead he was at the back of the group as if ready to defend the others if needed. He too seemed intimidating even more then the blonde girl if only because of his size.

It wasn't until said boy looked over her unknowingly meeting her eyes that she swiftly turned away her heart pumping fast blushing in not only embarrassment, but in slight anxiety as well. What was she thinking? Not even an hour earlier she had complained about the attention? And now she was doing the same to others.

Not only that she had made eye contact with the curly haired boy. Not that he knew, but what if something happened? It would have been her fault! Just like...she cut's herself off. No, don't think about that. Shaking her head she turns away from the teen's allowing herself to glance at them through the side of her eye.

The bronze haired boy was looking at her eye furrowed his mouth moving slightly as if talking quietly to the other. Eye widening Natalia looked away quickly rushing words the building she need to get to for class.

When Natalia got to her first class she was still blushing feeling relived that she could blame it on the cold. Going up to the teacher, Mr. Brock, handing him the slip of paper introducing herself confidently. While her stance was calm and confident, her eyes didn't dare look up to his face the panic from a few minutes ago still coursing through her.

She was assigned to sit a quite girl who had introduced herself as Angela Weber. Just as the girl was moving to hold out her hand to shake Natalia with practiced ease moved to her bag looking through it as if she couldn't find it just long enough for Angela ti put her hand down, and Natalia took out a pencil nodding to the girl politely acting as if she didn't notice the girl held out her hand.

"Would you like to sit with my friends and I?" Natalia is asked a few classes  later by Angela having shared English with the girl. Running her hair with her hand she hesitates mentally debating. A small part of her was screaming to say no, it was dangerous. The bigger part however recognized that it be easier to blind in, but if she was careful, it would be nice to have friends.

"Sure," Natalia agrees with a shrug giving her a small smile knowing the girl couldn't see the slight worry in her eyes.

The good thing about such a small school, Natalia decided, was that the line was short despite the fact that she and  Angela were one of the last out of class. She sat at the end of the table across from Angela and next to a brown eyed brunette that was a few inches shorter then Natalia.

"Oh, hey Natalia!" A talkative girl Natalia remembered sharing history with along with Angela. Jessica Natalia's mind supplied. Natalia smiles at the girl politely.

"So we get to sit next to two new girl then," A boy, Eric, says excitedly.

"Sorry?" The girl next to Natalia asks sounding confused. Natalia looked at the boy looking as confused as the girl sounded.

"You didn't know?" Eric asks shocked to us,"Bella Swan meet Natalia Lancaster. You are the two new students." The two girls shared a look slightly startled at news before Natalia allowed herself break the silence.

"Well, at least I didn't have to suffer alone. Nice to meet you," Natalia says with a soft smile not offering a hand, and hoping the other girl wouldn't as well.

"Bella," The other girl says with a relived smile seeming glad she wasn't the only new kid.

"So what's with the sunglasses, Mystery?" Another boy, Mike, asks Natalia.

"Mystery?" Natalia asks confused.

"Well, yeah. No one knows anything about you. Your a total mystery to everyone. At least we know where Bella used to live in Phoenix. What about you?" Mike ask looking a lot like a curious puppy.

"I have a thing with light. If I don't wear sunglasses I get headaches," Natalia answers the boy's first question.

"And where are you from?" Jessica asks eagerly ready for some gossip.

"Texas," Natalia says.

"You don't seem like you have a accent," Mike accuses, and Natalia rolled her eyes before smiling sweetly.

"Well, bless your soul. I'm very sorry, sugar," She says bringing her accent out as much as possible,"Y'all must really excuse me, but I had to leave my accent back with my horse and boots." Natalia snickers slightly as Mike mutters an apology.

"Why did you move here?" Jessica digs.

"Well, I have to keep some secrets," Natalia says with a playful smile,"Or there's no mystery." Jessica pouts opening her mouth probably about to get some answers, but Bella interrupts.

"Who are they?" Bella asked, and Natalia turns to follow Bella's eyes.

She was talking about the teens Natalia had seen in the parking lot. Turning away quickly not wanting to chance catching their any of their eyes she listens as Jessica giggles embarrassed after catching on of the teen's eyes.

"That's Edward and Emmett Cullen, and Rosalie and Jasper Hale. The one who left was Alice Cullen; they all live together with Dr. Cullen and his wife," Jessica explains under her breath, but when Natalia looked at the four reaming teens she got the impression that they could hear her even from across the room.

Natalia looked at them her eyes catching the bronze boy. She watched confused as his mouth moved like in the parking lot, and like before she felt as if they were talking to the others.

"They are... very nice-looking," Bella says and Natalia couldn't help but to snort at the understatement.

"You mean drop dead gorgeous. I would kill to get my hair to look like theirs. Honestly I don't care which one. I think I can pull of a guy's style," Natalia jokes, and Jessica giggles.

"Yeah their good looking," Jessica agrees,"But Jasper and Alice are together. And they live together." Natalia had to keep from rolling her eyes at the girls judgmental tone.

"It's not like they're actually related by blood," Natalia say's sharper then intended then added with a silent sigh,"Your saying you wouldn't want to live with them if your dating them." Jessica hesitates before nodding slightly seeing the girls point.

A booming laugh startles Natalia, and she find her eyes wandering back to the teens. The big curly haired boy was laughing as the bronze haired kid said something.

"Which ones are the Cullens?" Bella asked bringing the attention back from the boy,"They don't look related..."

"Oh, they're not. Dr. Cullen is really young, in his twenties or early thirties. They're all adopted. The Hales are brother and sister, twins — the blondes —and they're foster children," Jessica explains.

"They look a little old for foster children," Bella says.

"They are now, Jasper and Rosalie are both eighteen, but they've been with Mrs. Cullen since they were eight. She's their aunt or something like that," Jessica answers.

"That's really kind of nice — for them to take care of all those kids like that, when they're so young and everything," Bella says, and Natalia nodded in agreement.

"I guess so," Jessica admitted reluctantly, and Natalia quickly realized that the girl was jealous of the family.

"I think that Mrs. Cullen can't have any kids, though," She adds as if it made the act less kind.

"Oh, how horrible someone adopts because they can't have kids," Natalia mutters sarcastically under her breath, and Bella glances at her with an amused smile.

"Have they lived in Forks long?" Natalia asks louder gaining Jessica's attention.

"No," Jessica answers in a obvious voice,"They just moved down two years ago from somewhere in Alaska."

Natalia instantly felt sympathetic having to have to deal with stares all day. Though she thought they had it worse as they still seemed to be the biggest topic of conversation. She was sure in a few weeks that the hype of new students would dwindle.

She couldn't help a small part of her feel relived that more focus would be on someone other then her in case anything went wrong.

"Which one is the boy with the reddish brown hair?" Bella asks

"That's Edward. He's gorgeous, of course, but don't waste your time. He doesn't date. Apparently none of the girls here are good-looking enough for him," Jessica says with obvious bitterness, and Natalia wondered when she was rejected.

"How about the dark curly hair boy?" Natalia asks glancing at them then back to Jessica.

"That's Emmett. He's just like his brother in the dating department," Jessica says just as bitter, and Natalia has to hold back a hiss of sympathy. Being rejected twice by the same family had to suck. After that the conversation tapered off, but Natalia couldn't stop glancing at the family curiously.

The rest of lunch was filled with Natalia and Bella being pulled into conversation, and Natalia having to strategically not answer any questions much to the irritation of Jessica. It seemed too to take for ever for the bell to ring. Natalia felt relived when it did ring, but she still promised to sit next to Bella feeling like she and the other girls were becoming quick friends both having the same humor, and sharing the burden of being new.

A/N: I am from Texas, and yes I sometimes sound like Natalia did during the lunch scene. I hope you liked this chapter. I'm pretty happy with it.
