Ep 40: The Fall of the Lost Hero
Alright it's time..for the End! But not the end of the series...
Well Free was wrong, it wasn't exactly a bottomless pit. Instead it was a maze, a maze designed to break bladers. He got a quick look as he was falling down how big it was and it took up the whole entire room.
Free didn't really know that much about the Snake Pit but he did remember something once that Shu said. When Free found Shu on the roof they talked about the Snake Pit. One of the things Free remembered was Shu telling him about the maze.
"When bladers don't cooperate in the Snake Pit they get sent to the maze. The maze is designed to break someone. Bladers who go down there don't get out the same"
The maze was a creepy place, sometimes when Free was walking he'd find old discarded masks at his feet. Another time he thought he saw bones.
He tried everything to get out. He tried climbing to get a better look of the place and he also used a old trick by putting his hand on the wall and kept walking. But nothing seemed to work.
Free knew it was a long shot but he pulled out his phone again. But this time it didn't turn on. Free figured it was dead. Putting it away Free kept walking.
It felt like hours had gone by and fear was starting to creep in. Free started thinking about Phi and his battle. The way Fafnir roared as it was being scattered was bone chilling. That sound would forever haunt him.

Minutes turned into hours. Sometimes whenever Free was walking around he would feel unexplainable fear. But then he would settle down. These fear attacks seemed to be on a schedule. But these were scientists and they knew what they were doing.
After a while Free got tired of walking and sat down on the stone pathway. Holding his head in his hands, hope was feeling very slim.
"Free."
Free sat up looking around for the voice. His pocket was glowing a golden color. Taking out the broken pieces of Fafnir Free held them in his hand.
Tapping into Fafnir's power he was face to face with the majestic beast. But something was wrong. Fafnir seemed to be glitching and it looked weaker.
"In order to move forward and escape the maze you don't look ahead. Instead you must think outside the box. And remember Free your power is never truly gone. You must find a new way to tap into it."
Free snapped back to reality, looking down at Fafnir it looked even worse. It lost its calming glow and now it just looked normal. He need to fix Fafnir but first he needed to get out.
In order to move forward and escape the maze you don't look ahead.
Don't look ahead...
That's it!
Using his hands Free started digging, throwing unwanted rocks behind him. Luckily because of the age of the structure it quickly gave out and Free feel even further into the depths of the Snake Pit.
The room below wasn't much better, at this point the temperature was really cold and Free wished he had a jacket.
There was something different about this room. A lot of the rooms in the Snake Pit were scary or concerning but there was something dark about this room. Almost like there was something evil in there with Free.
In the corner of the room was a large cylinder with its doors open with a bunch of wires going into it. On either side was desk with computers and other technology. Red lines were on the ground in geometric lines.
On the desk were blueprints for the Requiem Project. The mechanisms, the parts down to the last note. Rolling up the blueprints Free put them in his bag so nobody else would steal them and try to do the same thing.
After finding a staircase in the back Free went back to discovering the mysteries of the abandoned.
After going up a couple of flights of stairs Free found the control room. The room was a bit on the small side but Free was sure it got the job done.
Multiple computers were hung up on the walls but they were all black. A large clock was in the middle of it all. It was eerie the way the time stopped on the clock like time was frozen in that eerie place. On top of everything was a thin layer of dust making the place feel old.
After that the rest of the rooms were boring. The occasional bladers quarters here and another training room there.
But other than that there wasn't really that much left other than all the old equipment and masks. But as Free was walking down the hallway to another set of stairs. He saw an open door cracked open a little bit.
Curious Free went down the hallway to the open door. To Free's surprise it was your standard office. Wooden paneling with built in shelves was on either side of the wall. On the shelves were various treasures.
Some were different colored masks like Red Eyes and Gold Eyes while others were beyblades or newspapers. The office reminded Free a little of Ethans from the beginning. A fireplace was across the wall from where Free was standing. Overall it was a very modern slick office but it was also large too. Large enough to fit a desk and two other chairs sitting across from it.
This must be Theodores office..
"Hello Free De La Hoya, please take a seat."
Theodore Glass walked out from behind the desk. He wore his usual black suit with purple folds and his white scarf. Nothing had really changed about him but at the same time there was something off going on here.
"Why are you here?"
"Ah yes, straight to the point I like that. I was once used to this place to help others gain power and get stronger. I graciously extended my hand of generosity to help bladers to understand their power."
"I offered them strength and what did they do? They spat it back at me and revolted against me. Surely you noticed the broken equipment in the training room now didn't you?"
He was watching me, he knew I was here the whole time..
"I was quite impressed on how you got out of the maze. Considering a lot of the bladers broke or changed persona's when they were down there. That I was not expecting."
"So then what do you want?" Free asked still on guard.
"Do you remember my exact words when you left The Raging Bulls?"
Free shook his head
"I'm not quite finished with you yet, trust me." He said looking at Free.
"And believe me that still is true, I want the same thing for you as well as my old students here. I want to help you get stronger. Phi's beaten you, Fafnir's broken and now Valt's world Champion your power is slowly decreasing and I know you're finding it harder on ways to get stronger."
"But why do you need me?" Free asked.
"Well it's pretty simple really, you've led BC Sol into more wins than I can even count. You have the traits of a good leader but you should be asking yourself your own question: Why do you need us?"
"You could've stayed at BC Sol, fixed Fafnir and been on your way. But instead you ran away here to all places. You could have ignored the Snake Pit temple. You could have escaped with the stolen project Requiem plans and given them back to Valt."
Frees eyes widened.
"Oh yes, you may think everything here is abandoned or broken but you're wrong. So then tell me Free why do you need us?"
Free didn't know what to say, Theodore was a very manipulative man but he had just painted Free into a corner.
"You said us, You said: Why do you need us?"
"Very perceptive of you."
Behind Free, Phi entered the room closing and locking the door behind him. He wore the same clothes from when Free faced off against him.
"To answer your earlier question you do need us to get stronger. You've been training and meeting new rivals and yet you've gotten stronger but not at the level you want. But luckily I am a merciful man and I offer you help in exchange for your cooperation."
"But why after all you've done, why do you think I or others will still follow you now?"
"Because people like you don't know the real truth about our world. You see from the beginning you've been told all men are created equal. But that is a lie, and you know it too."
"You bladers possess power and strength far different from other kids I've seen that don't blade. But you Free are different even without the help of the Snake Pit you've managed to be world champion."
"No,"
"I'm not falling into the same trap Shu did. I don't need your twisted way of helping others gain strength instead I need to find my own path. Without anyone else and I need to do this alone."
Theodore let out a tired sigh
"You know you're forgetting something about this little predicament. Think of this as one of those popular card games like Uno or maybe even Texas Holden for instance. Right now you may think you're in control. But you don't even know what in store for my deck."
"Now then that's enough for today, I was really hoping you would come around and make the right decision. But by the time we're done with you you'll be begging to join us."
Pain was everywhere. In every nerve and in every muscle. Everything just hurt and felt like I was on fire. Free dropped to his knees and gripped to the ground.
"Please stop it, Phi."
"I would but I don't fully trust you, it's nothing personal it's just I don't trust the world you come from." Theodore answered for Phi.
Those were the last words Free heard before passing out. Everything after that was blurry, Free felt exhausted and he could barely stay awake. Eventually he fell into the depths of darkness.
