Ep 33: Telling Stories! Legends of Free De La Hoya
"Okay so this story starts when I was at SB Rios." said Grant.
"You were at SB Rios?" Delaney questioned.
"Yeah that was one of my more questionable choices. Anyways back to the story."
******Flashback******
Free De La Hoya stood with his pack over his shoulder looking up at a wooden fence that towered above. He knocked on the fence. After waiting a couple of minutes Free decided to leave.
Free was looking for a new team and after getting into a fight with Kris he was trying to find somewhere new to call his team.
But since Free was the champion at the time everyone wanted him on their team. Free just wanted a team that looked past his status as champion.
As Free was walking away a group of kids leaped up from behind the door like a bunch of circus people performing.
When the landed they each posed to intimidate Free. Instead Free wanted to laugh but he didn't he managed to keep a poker face on.
"Who are you and what do you want?" A tall kid with brown hair asked.
Just then the kids beside him started whispering in his ear.
"Are you sure that's him. Wow that's crazy." He mumbled.
"Alright Free De La Hoya, what do you want?" the boy rephrased.
"I want to try out." He said simply.
"Ha! You and what army?" Another kid asked.
"This one." Free pulled out his bey.
Since Free was a bit younger at the time he hadn't yet acquired Fafnir. Instead he held out Kerbeus.
"Fine then come with us." A girl said.
They led Free inside SB Rio's hideout. Inside bladers had stadiums pulled out and they were practicing. Overall the appearance reminded Free of a dojo.
"Alright this is a battle royale but this is a two point battle." The tall kid with brown hair stated.
"Fine with me." Free said putting Kerbeus in his launcher.
"3..."
"2..."
"1..."
"Let it rip!"
Kerbeus took up the center while the other beys stayed close to each other on the offensive. The minute they all made contact they burst on the spot.
After picking up Kerbeus a large man and his smaller son made his way over to Free. The father wore a serious expression while the son looked like he wanted to leave.
"What's going on here?" Banner Clay asked walking up to the group of kids.
The group of kids straighten up like soldiers.
"We were just battling to see if Free was a worthy opponent or not." Said one of the kids.
"Free? As in Free De La Hoya?" Banner asked
"Yeah, and I'm here to try out. I want to do the hundred blader test." Free said tilting his head.
"Hmm, alright since you've been hard at work training let's put that attitude to the test." Banner said walking.
Free followed him over to the center of the dojo. A single stadium stood and the bladers who were battling moved aside for Free and Banner.
"Alright then let's get started."
"I'll be your first opponent." The tall kid with brown hair stood up from the crowd and walked over to Free.
Counting down the tension grew until both boys launched their beys into the stadium.
"Goblin attack!"
"Kerbeus end this."
Kerbeus cut through Goblin easily leaving its pieces on the ground.
"I'm next," A short chubby kid walked up to the stadium.
"I'm going to beat you and then I'll be world champion."
Free just shook his head and got into his launching position. If every blader was going to trash talk him then this was going to take a while.
******
"Battle 100!"
Free was panting like a dog. In the beginning the heat wasn't that bad but after an hour or two that's when it started getting bad.
In the middle of the day was the worst time to be doing something like this. In the morning the temperature is cool and it can be also in the afternoon. But this was just bad.
When Free started nearing the end of the battles it started to cloud up creating shade. The change in weather helped but only by a little. Free could still feel the heat in the air despite the shade since the ground absorbed the heat.
After a while Free lost count of how many battles he had done. Was it 90 or 100? He didn't care and he didn't want to stop. Even when it was raining, Free wanted to keep going. He felt like he was tapping into something and he wanted to find out more about it.
His body got into the rhythm and his mind was distracted thinking about other things.
This team did seem nice and interesting but it didn't feel right to Free. When the next battle was called Free slowly came back to reality. When he saw the other team cheering. That's when it hit him he knew what he needed to do.
"I'm done." Free said
"You sure you're almost at 200." Banner said impressed.
"I'm sure,"
Free knew he could've keep going and eventually make it to 200 but he knew where he belonged.
"Well since you made it past 100 battles and almost to 200 you passed the test."
The team cheered around Free.
"No thanks." Free said
Everyone was surprised, even Banner looked a little taken aback by the response.
"Thanks for the offer but I've realized something. You already have a great team and you guys don't need me. I've realized from all your cheering and praise that I already have a team. I guess I just needed your guys' teamwork to remind me of that."
So, then just as Free had arrived he left with his bag over his shoulder walking into the woods.
Everyone watched him leave in awe Free never knew what number he stopped at but he didn't care.
"Sir, I just got the results from Free's test and he stopped at 188!"
"Hmmm. That kid is something isn't he?"
"Then End."
"Also that tall kid with the brown hair?" Grant said
"Yeah?" Taylor asked.
"That was me and also I almost forgot that was how Rickson and I joined BC Sol because Free inspired me to transfer here." Grant said leaning back.
"Wow good story," Said Delaney.
"But I think you guys will like mine better."
