Ep 21: The Return of a Friend!
After a little while of waiting they finally moved onto the next hole. This hole was something Free had never seen before.
The tee box Michael was hitting from was going over a pond and the fairway was also crazy. There was a little hill going up but then it came down a little bit then back at the hole. Overall the hole looked intimidating. But this only seemed to excited Free.
Since Michael was distracted Free decided to hit first. This shot was his best yet. The ball soared through the air and barely made it over rolling itself into the fairway.
Then Trad hit next but the ball didn't make it. At first it looked like a strong hit but then it went into the lake. Trad grumbled going back to the cart. Then Isabel was interesting, since she didn't make it she got so frustrated she threw her club into the lake.
"Aw come on Isabel that was a rental!"
"Oh lighten up Trad at least we don't have to take back that girly club. I'm doing you a favor."
Trad put his head in his hand, he let out a tired sighed. Free just shook his head.
Michaels hit wasn't as good as the first one. Unlike the last one this one flew through the air but it curved and went into the woods.
He let out a frustrated sigh and got into the golf cart next to Free. Free laid back trying to relax but Michael's wild driving made it hard.
Dropping Free off in the fairway Free hit his next shot landing the ball a short of the green. Meanwhile Trad's ball raced across the green and went over. Michael eventually came back and picked up Free. As they looked for Michael's ball they were both silent.
After a couple of minutes Michael gave
up and dropped a ball. He hit it and it looked good. It was on the left side of the green but then it trickled down into the sand trap.
Getting into the cart Michael drove Free and himself to the other side of the green. Then he stopped the car and lowered his head.
"Sorry I've been kind of..distant tonight Free I know we're only on the 3rd hole but my grandpa's in the hospital. I'm worried for him. It's always been my grandparents and I. My parents haven't really been around a lot. Mom's busy and Dad's in solitary. Sorry about my outburst."
"It's fine Michael just focus on the shot in front of you. And when hitting the ball take note of your body's stance. You were aiming left without you even noticing."
"Not bad, look who's picking it up."
Free gave Michael a small smile and walked over to his ball. Free easily chipped the ball onto the green and putted.
"Go Michael!"
Free looked over to see Isabel cheering on Michael like she was a cheerleader. Michael readied himself and easily got the ball out. But it didn't stop, it kept going straight into the hole.
Isabel jumped up and down cheering.
"Not bad kid, thanks for the encouragement." Michael said, ruffling her hair.
Free might've been imagining things but he could've sworn he heard Isabel say something like "So cool." Or "He's so awesome."
"What? You'll cheer for him and not me."
Isabel turned around and stuck out her tongue at Trad.
"Why you little.."
Watching them run around like little kids reminded Free of when Trad would get upset at Valt.
It was always funny watching them run around but it eventually got boring. Propping his putter on his shoulder Free walked back to the golf cart.
"I hate this hole."
The next hole was long but short as Michael described it. The boys were on the tee box hitting from the white like they were the next Tiger Woods.
This just annoyed Free, over the years Free has seen a lot of bladers who thought they were really good but like most it turned out they weren't.
"Hey to pass the time do you guys want to hear some stories?"
"Sure."
"Okay so here's one of my favorites, there was this time I was playing with some friends and one of them is what I like to call a "hot head" anyways he would get so frustrated."
"But this particular time his ball got stuck in the tree and the thing is this was a very special ball to him. So he tried climbing the tree but that didn't work out."
"Then he got tired. Next he tried throwing his club, but then the club got stuck. It was hilarious, these guys from the clubhouse had to come out with a latter and get the ball and the club out of the tree. The End."
"Good story Michael." Isabel commented.
"Oo I've got one." Trad commented.
Michael made a good ahead hand gesture.
"Alright this was a while back, but I was playing with this guy. I forgot his name but he was an interesting fellow."
"Anyways on this one hole it was going over the lake. I was a bit nervous at the time because I haven't ever done a shot like this. So the other I was playing with insisted that he goes first. I didn't mind, at the time. But his ball hooked so badly that when we found it, it went onto the green beside the hole. Meanwhile when I hit it, it bounced along the fairway and went straight onto the green."
"Good story." Michael commented back.
While the group continued to share stories Free heard something nearby in the bushes.
"Hey Michael, I'm going to go clean my ball."
"Okay but be quick I think these boys are almost done."
Free got off the cart walking towards the woods. Then as he peered into the bushes a deer's head popped up. Free was used to this but this deer was not. Free could tell by the way it was frozen with fear it was going to run away. Taking a step back Free raised his hands in defense. The deer nodded and then went deeper into the woods.
"Free, we're ready."
Free turned around walking away from the woods but little did he know that the deer was still watching him.
