Ep 2: The Retired Bey Trainer!
Okay so for those of you reading this book for the first time the plot line won't just be about Amanda and Free by the way I know it'll be a little boring at first but trust me it'll get better
"Wait, what do you mean?" She asked
"That thing you did with the basketball." Free answered.
"Oh do you mean this?"
Amanda spun the ball into the air as if it were light as a feather. It landed with grace balancing on her finger spinning.
"I guess I kinda taught myself over time. Whenever the ball would get wet I would just do that to dry it off." She answered.
"Huh," He said tilting his head.
The ball eventually stopped spinning and she held it in her hands.
"Mind if I try?" He asked.
"Sure." Amanda said, handing him the ball.
He looked to the basket and chucked it in the air. Arching like a rainbow it landed in the basket with a perfect swish. Amanda stood there as if that had been the greatest thing she had seen all day.
Classic Free
"So what are you doing out here?" Amanda asked, shooting another basket.
The ball bounced off the backboard, hit the rim and landed over by Free. He stopped the ball with his foot. Pushing the ball toward his foot arched making the ball pop into the air. He caught it perfectly and threw it at the basket.
"Nothing much, just doing some training."
The ball hit the rim but it didn't go in, instead it bounced out of the rim and bounced.
"Do you play basketball?" She asked while Free shot another hoop
"Nah, I'm more into blading."
"Oh," Amanda said disappointed.
"Something wrong?"
"Well it's just my dad is always trying to force me to do it. I get that it's our family's thing but he's never once thought about what I want to do. But lately he's been on my case getting after me."
"While we're on the subject where is your dad?"
"Probably in his study working. Why?"
Free took off running in the direction of the estate without saying another word. Amanda followed from behind like a loyal little puppy struggling to keep up. In the distance a large figure could barely be seen through the trees. It definitely towered above the forest.
Free waited by the patio door as Amanda caught up. This time Free followed Amanda into her house. The estate very much resembled Wakiya's mansion. Except for the fact that there was something more classy or older about the place. Following Amanda up the stairs Free looked at the pictures in the hallway. They each had their own story to tell.
Free smiled at a picture of Kris shaking hands with a tall slender man. He figured the man was Amanda's dad. Amanda stood at a tall brown door that contrasted with the light pastel hallway. Free could tell she was hesitating as her fist hovered above the door. Clenching her fist she knocked anyways. Her father opened the door. His eyes widened once he saw Free.
"Come on you two."
Closing the door Amanda and Free stood in the middle of the room. Amanda was looking away from her father's gaze meanwhile Free watched him.
The man was tall and slender favoring a dark navy suit with a tie. His auburn hair was a bit darker than Amanda's, it had a bit of a shine from hair gel. Unlike his picture above the fireplace he had a red beard that contrasted with his brown hair.
"Free De La Hoya, I'd never expect you to show up on my doorstep of all places."
"The feeling is mutual." He answered bluntly.
"Wait, do you two know each other?" Amanda asked, suddenly confused.
"You could say that." Free answered.
"I used to be a Bey Trainer for the Raging Bulls until I decided to retire. Back in those days Theodore and I decided to work together. But eventually he decided to disappear without telling me he had gone."
"Anyways," he said while leaning on his desk.
"Why would one of the best bladers in the world show up on my doorstep?"
"I need your help." Free said, taking Geist Fafnir out his pocket. He held it in front of him as if he was challenging him.
"May I?"
"Sure."
He held in his hand as if he were looking at a priceless treasure he had just discovered. Holding it up at every angle he studied every single detail he could see. But the more he looked the more it interested him.
"I think I know something that may help."
Rummaging through his desk he pulled out some office supplies like pencils or pens.
He mumbled things to himself like "I know it's in here somewhere." or "Was it in this box?"
He pulled out a couple of brightly colored beys and launchers. The whole time Free watched leaning against the unlit fireplace slightly intrigued to see what else he was going to find. The situation reminded Amanda of a magic show where her father was a magician and his desk was his hat.
"Here, follow me to the basement."
He walked swiftly down the stairs and into the kitchen, behind him trailed Amanda and Free.
The kitchen had slick white cabinets and black countertops that contrasted. In the center stood a lonesome island that was a deep blue color. Standing on the side of it the island was a bit shorter than him but he didn't care. Squatting down he input a code and the island opened.
All three of them looked down into the space. There was a small gray staircase going into the darkness. Gray railings were parallel from each other. On the ceiling were white luminescent lights leading the way. Over all the whole image reminded Amanda of a haunted house or an abandoned part of the house.
"You never told me we had a basement." Amanda said looking at her dad.
"Well you never once asked." Her father said giving her a smug look.
Amanda rolled her eyes and asked
"So who wants to go into the creepy looking basement first?"
A/N: Whew! Just got another chapter done. This short story will probably be about 4-5 chapters. But now that I've been thinking about it I think I'll make it a scenario book with other mini training adventures. Also I can spin a basketball on my finger like Amanda btw.
