Ep 17: Last day! Hike up the Statue of Liberty!
The next morning, Free made sure to leave early again. Packing up his stuff he decided to spend the morning warming up for the Statue of Liberty. After raiding the pantry for more food Free used his backpack as weight when he was running up floors. By the time it was lunch he had worked up and appetite but in return he ran up at least 45 floors.
Once he was done with lunch, Free decided to cool off in the Central Park Zoo. Free has always had a fondness for animals. If he had a favorite place in New York it would be The Central Park Zoo. Walking past the cages of animals it reminded him of Joshua once again.
Free didn't really have a thing for big cats and Free didn't look at animals to unleash the beast or whatever that meant. But he's always just liked animals and nature; they always somehow made him smile.
Being out in nature had always helped Free whenever he was with the Bulls. Sometimes he just needed a break from it all.
The sun felt nice as it shone down on Free. Looking through the zoo Free saw lots of animals. In a way some of the animals reflected bladers. Like the Snow Leopard reminded Free of Lui in a way. Most of the animals were friendly until he came upon a familiar cage.
Inside was a certain stubborn Tiger Free was very familiar with. Whenever Free went to the zoo animals were always very nice to him.
Whether it was his fondness or that Free wore clothes similar to the zookeeper's he would never know. For whatever the reason this Tiger had always been territorial.
Keeping his eyes focused on the Tiger it kept staring at him. Free could tell it wanted another staring challenge. Since he had nothing better to do he looked back at the Tiger in response. For a long time they just stared at each other. Free's eyes glowed and the Tiger growled. But the Tiger would still not back down.
A little gust of wind came through making Frees hair blow around. Focusing further on the Tiger he still stared at it intensely. But unlike this time his veins hinted at revealing his strength and his eyes glowed a more solid gold. Eventually the Tiger gave up, giving one last growl he turned around and went back into his habitat.
Free had always enjoyed the tigers challenge, it reminded him of Lui. To Free most bladers still had a long way to go. But Lui, Lui was a challenge. Lui always knew how to make battles exciting and Free always enjoyed battling him.
Even if Free though Free beat him a long time ago he still liked to battle. To Free Lui can be unpredictable and wild at the same time all while being interesting.
By the time Free was done at the zoo it was around mid-afternoon.
Free jogged at a simple pace that wasn't too fast or slow for him. His last destination was the Statue of Liberty. Whenever people would go there most would just walk around the island or take pictures. But if you were really daring like Free then you could always walk/jog/or run up inside her and have a beautiful view as a reward.
After buying his tickets Free made his way to the Ferri. It was a small boat with two floors. Walking onto the boat Free could feel it swaying a bit.
Ignoring it he grabbed a snack and made his way to the top. Since he was one of the last people to board the ship there was no room for him to sit. But he didn't mind, he preferred to stand anyways.
It was another beautiful day just like the one before. Except this time there were a couple of clouds in the sky to provide some relief.
"Um excuse me?"
Free looked over to see a small little girl. She had short white blonde hair and green eyes. She was wearing a blue shirt and khaki shorts.
"Can I have your autograph?"
Free didn't say anything as he dug out a pen from his backpack. Signing the little girls picture she immediately hugged it as soon as Free was done.
"Thank you!"
She ran off back to her parents holding up the signed picture like a trophy.
I wish I had that..
Frees thoughts shifted back onto what he was thinking before. As they neared the island Free went back to the bottom deck. People were everywhere talking and standing. It was interesting how Free could feel so alone despite him being around so many people.
Getting off the boat Free walked through the entrance. Free thought the boat was full of people but this was even more busy than the boat. It was crazy!
Dodging people left and right Free slowly made his way around the island slower than he wanted. But The Statue of Liberty was gorgeous. She towered the whole island like the Empire State Building.
Little did the bulls know but Free had been there many times. The island was always a good place for training. Heck even the people who guarded the entrance to the inside knew Free. But aside from training this was also a place of reflection.
So far Free had been having a good time on this trip. He was almost sad to leave, but he needed to get back to some more intense training like what he was doing in the desert.
Going inside Free looked up, a huge double helix staircase took up most of the interior. As Free ran up, the architecture was incredible. Metal beams were everywhere each with their own purpose. Plastic windows covered parts that weren't railed or protected.
After a while of running it started to feel like climbing. Before coming here Free had read somewhere that there was 377 steps.
But then he saw it, he saw the light. Running up the last few steps he finally made it to the top. Small arched windows provided light to the dark interior. It was a small space and not many people were up there. But Free prefered it that way. The less the better.
Looking out of the crown, in the distance Free could see New York. The buildings took up most of the sky but behind them was a beautiful sunset. The colors painted the sky consisting of a deep purple and some orange. Overall it was a beautiful sight.
Free was happy in that moment, nothing else felt like it could beat this moment. Over the past couple of days Free had seen some breathtaking things like detailed art and cool animals. But nothing would ever beat this, especially if you're doing something you love.
To Free this vacation wasn't a waste of time. To some bladers like Lui this might have been but to Free this had been nice. But Every once and a while Free took the chance to take a step back to reflect and think.
Looking at the sunset, Free made a bold move, he never once done this before but that's what made it fun. He jumped out of the crown falling through the air.
He didn't even care if the Statue of Liberty staff members got in trouble and he didn't care if they banned him. As he plummeted down further to the ground he pulled and a parachute emerged from his back. The air caught him gently, slowing gravity's force.
He was just happy to be free and with that smile he flew into the sunset.
A/N whew what a good ending, originally I didn't anticipate Blindt being in that last chapter. Hope you guys have a good day! Also sorry it's been a while I've been kinda busy. The next short story will be different because Frees going to try something new.
