Synopsis: Raven is your typical anti-social teenager who prefers to spend time alone, reading comics and watching anime. She doesn't hate her classmates, she just doesn't have a desire to socialize. So, when the new exchange student approaches her during lunch one day, she is surprised by his request to sit with her.

The two realize that they have quite a bit in common and enjoy each other's company, thus beginning a friendship that is sure to last for a very long time. Their friendship is sealed when they attend Free Comic Book Day at Gotham City Limits, a local comic book store. Despite the sweltering heat, the two of them are excited.

INTRODUCTION

I struggled with this one, not because of the wordcount, but because of the theme.

I've always lived a rather solitary life so I've never really gone out to festivals or events. The theme of this contest is to write about a festival or holiday and how you celebrate. Can you see my problem here?

I got super excited because I wanted to write about my favorite holiday - Halloween. The problem is that I've never done anything to celebrate due to personal issues. I could make up what I believe it would be like, but I feel like that would be missing the point of the challenge.

Because of that, I took a step back and gave it some thought.

In the USA, we have this holiday called "Free Comic Book Day" that takes place on the first Saturday of May. This is a holiday that I've actually been able to celebrate, though it was only once, so I decided to draw on that experience and chose this holiday.

I was also worried that this wasn't seen as an "official" holiday, but it appears on the holiday list on timeanddate.com so I'm hoping it will count.
