Description:

There was something in the lake.

Nobody knew what it was-- in fact, no one even spoke about it. Only the leaders and the medicine cats discussed it-- and even then, they spoke of it in the darkness, with only the stars to listen.

All anyone knew is that cats going outside at night would never come back alive, washing ashore days torn in pieces.

But what was in the lake? What could be killing all these cats? And, most importantly, was there any way to stop it?

One thing is for certain-- there is something in the dark waters of the lake. And the Clans must stop it before they are destroyed forever.

Characters:

Please note, these characters will be marked with [A], [B],or [C] depending on what narrative they're taking part in. Character from [A] and [B] frequently interact, either all having scenes together or, if they are in the same Clan, alone together, but each also has many scenes with ONLY cats of [A] or [B]. [C] cats normally don't interact with others, being a part of the "action" storyline which consists of the attacks and also a bit of detective work.

[A] Smokestar: Light grey tom with orange eyes. A bit paranoid, and very protective of his Clan. Is a very young leader with most of his lives, described as "naive" and "not willing to do what's needed" by the other leaders. Leader of CliffClan.
[A] Brownstar: Dark brown tabby she-cat with green eyes. Kind of an indecisive leader, but isn't actually indecisive: she agrees with Miststar about sacrificing cats if they're not in her Clan, but gets suspiciously quiet when it turns to her Clan's turn. Extremely calculating and quietly manipulative (has really subtle blackmail, basically). Leader of MossClan.
[A] Tinystar: Despite his name, a surprisingly large cream tabby tom with green eyes. The oldest of the leaders, is more quietly resigned to death but does tend to agree with Smokestar normally, just isn't as adamant about it. Very soft-spoken for a cat of his size. Leader of CreviceClan.
[A] Miststar: Blue-grey tabby she-cat with yellow eyes. Seems overly calm to everyone else, kind of to a point that's concerning. Wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice a few cats for the 'greater good'. Leader of StreamClan.
[B] Rockwillow: Dark grey, almost black she-cat with green eyes. Older than Smokestar and normally agrees with Brownstar and occasionally Miststar, though Miststar can get a little extreme for her tastes. Encourages Smokestar to listen to "experience" and "understand the greater good". Medicine cat of CliffClan.
[B] Doefire: Pretty much never agreeing with his leader, Doefire is a brown tuxedo tom with copper eyes. Is the voice of reason (for Miststar especially) that is constantly pointing out that life is precious and even if one cat sacrificed means five will live doesn't mean that they shouldn't try as hard as they can to find an alternative. Medicine cat of MossClan.
[B] Sandystep: This light brown tom is a bit of a pushover. When with other medicine cats, he starts by agreeing with Doefire a lot but eventually gets really quiet when Clovertooth starts getting really into it. Never disagrees with Tinystar when he's in the room at first, but over the story his confidence grows until he is finally able to speak out (or whisper, in his case) and tell Tinystar that he agrees with Doefire 99% of the time. Medicine cat of CreviceClan.
[B] Clovertooth: And the extremist, we bring you...CLOVERTOOTH! A white she-cat with ginger patches and blue eyes, Clovertooth is Miststar but like times ten. (Which occasionally brings even THEM into conflict, as she's way more extreme than her leader.) She's the one that volunteers to give up her deathberry store when the time comes, and is very callous about lives ("we need to think for the future! imagine what the kits would say if we chickened out because a couple cats needed to die...") to the point that Doefire accuses her of forgetting her oath. She also is very loud and argumentative, and despite StarClan being silent 99% of the time she goes to talk to them, insists that they agree with her through "omens" (real or not, you decide). Medicine cat of StreamClan.
[C] Acorndusk: Brown tabby tom with a white tail tip and paws and yellow eyes. Not the loudest cat, but sort of the average, everyday sort of warrior that is forgotten about in most stories. However, after his brother/sister gets taken away by the monster, he becomes determined to figure out what happened. Finds the others (in group C) by coincidence at the Gathering. Warrior of CliffClan.
[C] Beaverclaw: Black tom with white spots and green eyes. Pretty outspoken dude who doesn't understand why no one is talking about the monster (it's like an unofficial taboo). Though no one particularly close to him died, he has an instinctual need to comfort others, and thus goes to comfort a distressed Fernberry at the Gathering, which gets him stuck in this whole mess. Warrior of MossClan.
[C] Fernberry: A more timid-looking pale grey she-cat with yellow-green eyes who is very fiery despite her fragility. Can be surprisingly sassy. Her mother was killed by the monster, and when this was announced at the gathering (though it wasn't mentioned that it was the monster) she broke down in tears. Warrior of CreviceClan.
[C] Owlfire: A dark brown she-cat with wicked fast reflexes. Is a more "average" sort of acting cat-- not overly sassy or submissive, just kinda...there. Has an unrequited crush on Fernberry, who she's been staring at at meetings (don't worry, it doesn't need to be made clear that it's a crush, it's just why she notices her crying) and hurries over to comfort her. Is determined to stop the creature that has killed so many cats. Warrior of StreamClan.

Formatting:

This would work best in a normal novel format. For the [A], [B], and [C] plots, I'd suggest a pattern like A, C, B, C, A&B, C, etc, as C is the most action filled plot but A and B are equally important. (A and B also frequently end up happening together, which helps)

Other

In my opinion, the monster is an escaped alligator. The recommended ending that I came up with involves stuffing someone full of deathberries and feeding them to the monster, but that is by no means the only ending possible...

Also, I suspect this might end up having to be marked Mature for guts and blood and gore.
