Description:

"Sagekit darted into the medicine cat den, purring with amusement as she swept aside a pile of neatly arranged horsetail.

Gannetbreeze burst in a moment later, hissing in annoyance. "Sagekit! Be careful!"

Sagekit only purred and darted out of the den in a flourish, and Gannetbreeze watched her leave in relief when an owl suddenly swooped down with a loud cry and snatched up the kit. Gannetbreeze watched with an odd detachment, hearing a voice mutter into his mind, 'a sign to the faithful'.

There were cries of terror and disbelief as the owl took flight, carrying off the wailing Sagekit, but Gannetbreeze heard none of it. His mind, instead, was fixed on the meaning of this event.

BirdClan, he realized. And Sagekit-- Meadowstar!

He ran out of the den in a frenzy, only to see the cats there staring at him in fury. "You drove her out! You sent her straight into the path of that owl!"

Gannetbreeze shook his head. No, it was meant to be, he thought, though his mouth stayed closed. And I am a servant to StarClan's will."

Gannetbreeze knows quite well that the owl is a sign-- that the fact that it carried away the curious Sagekit was nothing less than an omen by StarClan; it was a warning that their similar-pelted leader will be killed at the paws of BirdClan if they provoke them. But no one will listen-- after all, neither his fire or flood predictions ever came true.

Palestripe is devastated. Not only was her niece snatched up by the eagle, her mate has been badly injured in a skirmish with BirdClan. When Meadowstar, then, announces that a patrol will be sent out to spy on BirdClan, she's quick to volunteer. But is the group as well-intended as she believes?

Quickfire is excited. Now is his chance to prove himself, on this journey to BirdClan, and to show that he's not just an overexcited apprentice. But sometimes boundless energy can cause one to lose their pawsteps and tumble to their doom.

Honeygaze is torn. With her best friend in BirdClan, she can't help but panic at the thought of ever engaging her in battle. What's more, she was selected to go on this mission due to her keen observation skills-- and she can't tell her friend any of it. She must decide if it is blood or love that will rule her life.

Main Characters:

Gannetbreeze: DoeClan medicine cat. Very detached, unemotional cat. Rather resigned to his fate of never being believed, but tries anyway. Tom. Description up to you.

Palestripe: Sagekit's aunt, mate to Beestrike. Very anxious and suffers from flashbacks to Sagekit's death. Overly sensitive. DoeClan. She-cat. Description up to you.

Quickfire: Enthusiastic tom with a desire to prove himself. Feels sorry for Sagekit, but didn't see the death so is not affected by it as much. Can be over-confident but is a fairly naive cat. DoeClan. Tom. Description up to you.

Honeygaze: Sweet, but head-strong she-cat. Is quite rebellious but hides it. Lesbian. Has a crush on her best friend from BirdClan, Morningwillow. DoeClan. She-cat. Description up to you.
Morningwillow: Honeygaze's crush. A loyal but well-meaning cat. Would probably betray Clan for friends as long as it isn't a huge issue (i.e. not punishing them for accidentally crossing the border would be fine). BirdClan. She-cat. Description up to you.

Formatting

Personally, I believe traditional writing (1K-2K chapters) would work best for this story, but short story could definitely work as well. The POV would shift mainly between Palestripe, Quickfire, and Honeygaze, with a couple POVs from Gannetbreeze and an optional one from Morningwillow if desired.

Other

That excerpt above does not have to be used, it's just a general layout of what happened in the attack xD.
