• Lori's POV •

Someone once said that home isn't always a place and that it is the people that love you in which make a home. The home where you feel a sense of belonging.

I know that's one wise person.

And with the tears in my eyes as I found myself sitting in the backseat as my mother drove me home I realized my home wasn't what or where I thought it was any more and I was throwing my true home away. 

With that . . .

"Stop the car" I yelled at my mother jumping out and running back to the stable yard.

But wait let me take you, and back it up to the beginning.

Her names was Lauren Smith, she went by Lori preferably however. 

She was the new girl to the island as one of her soon to be best friends Zoe had once been a year prior.

And this new girl had a dark secret that she didn't know she'd have to face soon, for it was closer than she expected.

The new house they had bought was right by her Grandmothers, and over looked a stable, 'why did Mom have to buy a house right next to a stable. I thought she did this to help me forget about what happened' Lori thought to herself as she admired the stable and yard.

"I'm looking for Marcus" a man asked having pulled up in a truck with trailer in tow.

"How may I help you" A tall young man says walking up extending his hand.

"I really forgot how kind and polite people where on this island" the man replies accepting the handshake. "My niece this is her horse her mother asked me to bring her down from the mainland and stable her here at Bright Fields for her. Is there room?"

"Of course is your neice here?" Marcus asks following the man to the trailer.

"No she's with her mom at the house that they just moved into she doesn't know he's here actually. She quit riding." The man says sorrow in his voice.

"And you were thinking of trying to convince her to ride again" Marcus questions.

"That's what her mother and I were hoping. It made her so happy" He replies. "Her mom always had great things to say about this place and how it changes people and their lives for the better. She met him here"

"Your sister knew Sam?" Marcus asks.

"Well she's away on business but I'll have to have her come visit when she gets back." Marcus says.

"I think Lena would like that" Jack says.

"Ok, well let's unload ..." Marcus starts

"Her name is Canary, she's a Arabian Horse and we have Sparrow an Appaloosa as well" he says.

"Are those new horses" a girl asks walking up to the trailer causing one of the horses to spook.

"Young girl what's your name." The man asks taking of his hat.

"My names Mia and who might you be and what are you doing with such valuable horses?" She asks.

"Mia enough" Marcus states.

"My names Jack Brown, these are my nieces horses, Canary and Sparrow" Jack says.

"Mia gather the girls and have them help with getting these two settled in" Marcus orders as she strolls away to do so.

Zoe was in the field riding Raven when Mia yells for her to tie him up and come help with something.

"Where does the gear belong?" Jack asks.

"Saw horse in the paddock each horse has their own. It's kinda how it had to happen when business started booming" Susie says before looking down on her phone.

"Ok will one of you please help me with the tack for Canary?" Jack asks.

"I'll help" Zoe offers.

"Becky you help him will you" Marcus asks with a nod of his head and a grin.

At the cafe Becky and Jade were hanging out.

Becky was coming back to the table when she ran into someone spilling water all over her.

"Here take my hoodie" Zoe offered coming in to the aid.

"Thanks" the girl said.

"My names Zoe" Zoe said.

"I'm Lori you wanna hang out, say tonight dinner my place." Lori offered.

"Can I come" Mia asks?

"Uh I guess" Lori responds

The next day

'I found myself doing something I didn't want to do. I went to the stables what am I doing here?' Lori thought to herself. 

"Welcome to Holloway you look lost" A girl a top a horse says.

"My names Lori I just moved here from the US" Lori says.

"Awe you're an American how lovely, well my names Gaby have you ridden before? Gaby asks.

"I used to but I don't anymore" Lori says shyly.

"Come to our team hack with our old rivals From Bright Field Stables. We do them often now that it's a friendship not a rivalry between us it's this afternoon." Gaby says.

"Ok" Lori says knowing she'll regret ever agreeing to the camp out.

"Jack what brings you back to Bright Fields?" Zoe asks.

"It's my neice I hear you guys are friends and came over for dinner last night. I wanted to give this back to you." Jack says handing Zoe her hoodie.  

"Thanks" Zoe replies turning to leave. 

"I wondering if you'd help me by riding Sparrow to our house" Jack asks.

"Yeah I can let me go get Marcus though" Zoe says walking off eager to get on the Appaloosa .

"She's not a good person I'm warning you your neice will get hurt. She shouldn't be just another one of Zoe's charity cases" Mia says coming over to Jack.

"Is that so young lady" Jack retorts. 

"Ok we are ready" Zoe says on Sparrow "Easy girl. Easy."

She gallops off as Monty and Marcus, as well as Callum from Holloway follow, trailing behind the truck.

"Jack you brought Sparrow " Lori cries as she grabs onto the horse crying.

"I knew you would come around and I heard you wanted to go on this hack with Holloway to, I had to make sure you had a horse." Jack responds. "I also brought Canary "

When Jack said that a look of horror came over Lori's face as she head off for the hack meeting everyone on the beach.

"Guys for all of you who don't know this is Lori. She owns that beautiful Appaloosa horse" Gaby says.

"We should play truth or dare" Callum says with an evil look on his face.

"Sure" everyone agrees.

"Lori truth or dare" Callum asks.

"Truth" she replies.

"Is it true there is some dark history between you and a horse named Canary . If so what happened" Callum asks.

All eyes on her . . . "Yeah and it's none of your damn business but if you really wanna know you could say basically that Canary she's the horse that killed my dad I hope that makes you happy" Lori yells getting up and walking into the tent.

"Lori we're sorry about Callum" Gaby says on behalf of Holloway.

"We have jumps set up if you wanna do a jump competition with us" Marcus says entering the tent.

"I'll try it's been awhile" Lori says.

"Ok we agreed as a group you get a practice round" He adds.

"I'm gonna change into my real riding clothes, I'll meet you in a sec" Lori says.

Lori's nervous and sits in the tent until it's her turn.

"It's your turn Lori" Callum yells getting under Lori's skin.

"Do you need help up?" Marcus and Pin ask in unison.

Lori however stays quite as she places her hands on the saddle, pushing on the palms of her hands before jumping off the ground and into the saddle.

"Damn" Alex a guy from Holloway mumbles under his breath as Callum elbows him in the chest.

"Sparrow you got this baby" I say going to the start.

"Go" Gaby yells as Sparrow and Lori take off around the make shift course.

After a couple of jumps and a car pulling up Lori and Sparrow are doing ok. But that's when Sparrow jerks to a stop throwing Lori.

"Lori" My Uncle yells.

"See this is why I quit. I can't even jump a basic jump with Sparrow how am I ever gonna do it. All she thought about was me making it to junior nationals, she didn't see how I felt." Lori says to her uncle walking away her dog Sapphire tailing her.

And that's when they found out the cause of her fathers death without even realizing it.
