FOR ALL YOU CRIME WRITERS OUT THERE, you might be either cleverly avoiding the official terms or you've been sticking to the two or three you know. Here are a few more technical terms to keep your stories accurate!

FIRST DEGREE
You planned it put beforehand and then killed someone

SECOND DEGREE
You didn't plan it, but you definitely meant to kill someone (i.e. armed robbery, gang fights, drive-by-shooting, etc)

VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER
You didn't mean to/plan to kill them, but you lost your shit and did (think: crime of passion). Also known as Third Degree Murder

INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER
You didn't mean to kill someone at all, but you were aware what you were doing was bad (i.e. DUI, vehicular manslaughter, etc)

THIS IS ACCORDING TO U.S LAW, other laws when it comes to murders are completely unknown to me!
