Losing Control
Fire, fire everywhere. I don't want to die here, was the thought that rattled through Mason's mind. He'd thought he'd experienced pain before, but this was like nothing he'd had ever experienced. The flames had engulfed him completely, when he screamed. The intense heat and thick smoke caused him to choke and cough. The fire clung to him like glue and spread quickly as it devoured all of the books. Mason dropped and began to thrash but the magical flames were different from regular fire. The only way to put them out was with magic of equal or greater power.
"Mason!" Jaclyn screamed as she rushed to his side. "Hold still, please." With a flick of her wrist a wand appeared in her hand.
Jaclyn hovered over his roasting form holding back the bile that rose up her throat as the stench of burning flesh began to fill the air; Jaclyn looked over at Jack who was standing near with a wide smile on his face.
"Frigus Ventus!" Jaclyn chanted as a gust of frigid wind wisped out of her wand at Mason's scorched form. The crisp wind blew in like a blizzard as is wiped away the flames from Mason and the surrounding bookshelves.
"No sister! He needs to die if we are to be together! Ignis Iactus" Jack yelled desperately as he aimed once again at Mason.
"Obsepio!" Jaclyn stood in front of Mason, safely guarding him from another flaming assault. The strength from the blow made her stagger but she gritted her teeth and held against the heat. Tears began to brim in her eyes, "Please, you aren't thinking straight."
"Oh but I am sister- You are the one who isn't thinking straight!" Jack shouted his blue eyes wild and void of feeling. "Don't make me hurt you."
Mason forced his eyes open, fighting tooth and nail to remain conscious. His eyes wandered over to Jaclyn standing over him, sweat was beading on her forehead and she was panting heavily. A transparent bubble wall was in between them and Jacks constant flow of attacks, but it was cracking quickly. She's protecting me? Mason gritted his teeth at how helpless he felt; he was really starting to hate being put in these kinds of situations. He reached a badly charred hand out to her; his entire body resembled a piece of meat that had been left on the grill for far too long.
Jaclyn noticed Mason stirring and looked down at him, a sad smile spreading on her lips. "He's too strong," Her voice quivered, she knelt down to him and grabbed his hand. "I'm so sorry... I-I can't hold on for much longer."
Mason felt a surge of strength flow into him as he grasped Jaclyn's hand in his, "Are we still in the killing intent section?"
Jaclyn chuckled lightly, "Really? Cracking jokes at a time like this?" she smiled then, a true genuine smile that made his heart swell. Suddenly he got the feeling they might survive this after all, and once they did he'd do whatever he could to catch a glimpse of her smile again. There was the sound of shattering glass as the shielding fell apart and then wavered out of existence. Shit.
"Don't touch her, you mongrel scum!" Jack bellowed, then aimed his wand at Jaclyn and uttered an incantation.
Suddenly Jaclyn was lifted into the air and then tossed to the side, she collided with a bookshelf was a sickening thump as her skull met the thick wood of the shelving. Mason's eyes bulged as he stared as Jaclyn's limp body thumped to the floor, blood cascading down the side of her small face. J-Jaclyn? No, she can't be...
"Are you out of mind?" Mason howled as he struggled to his feet, his eyes glowed with rage. "That's your sister!" He could feel the beast inside him clawing to get out, eager to tear this foolish boy standing in front of him limb from limb. Tear him apart! Let the beast out!
"Idiotic monster, she isn't dead." Jack spat. "If I'm lucky she might get amnesia and forget all about you." He chuckled then, slicking back a strand of sweaty blonde hair.
"If you're lucky?" Mason steamed; already he could hear his body shifting as his anger took hold of him. "You think this is a fucking joke!?"
Jack made a face of disgust, "The only joke around here is you, Speers!" Then he spat at Mason's feet. "Ignis-"
Mason charged him then, his body only halfway through its transformation. His claws were more than ready and his fangs were extending, Mason stared daggers at Jack then belted an ear splitting roar.
"I'm going to fucking kill you!"
In an explosion of fur and bulging muscles Mason morphed into a creature of grotesque proportions, a creature many would refer to as a freak of nature. The beast that was once Mason barreled through the towering bookshelves as if they weren't even there, batting away the brick sized books like they were gnats.
"Gonna tear you apart!" The beast bellowed, slashing down with its massive razor sharp claws.
Jack barely had enough time to jump back to evade the full blunt of the attack, the front of his uniform rendered into shreds. A hysterical laugh erupted from his mouth as he threw up a magical barrier to block another slashing attack. Its razor sharp claws made scraping sounds as they bashed against the hard surfaced barrier, the beast let out a howl of frustration as it saw its attacks were having little to no effect.
"That's it!" Jack shouted. "Let those instinctual habits run awry," With a chant he sent a torrent of flames toward the beast, making it yelp in pain as the fire engulfed it. "You damned wolves think you're so strong, but you're not! You are pedestals, meant to be stepped on and to know your place."
The beast thrashed about in a frenzy as it tried to put out the wizard fire, the stench of burning hair filled the air as it blindly slashed at Jack before it finally collapsed on all fours. Jack stepped forward, a smug expression plastered on his face. He rushed a shaking hand through his blonde hair effectively wiping away the sweat and giving himself a smooth dapper look.
"Stay down boy." Jack scoffed as he glared down at the still smoldering beast. "Tell you what, if you swear fealty to me now I'll let you live... You'll have to stay away from my sister of course." He lifted his foot and placed it on top of the beasts head. "See? You freaks make the perfect pedestal!" Jack chortled.
The beast made a slow swipe at Jack's ankles, causing him to step back. The flames were sapping away its strength quickly, making its movements sluggish.
"What's wrong Puppers?" Jack snickered. "Y'know as it turns out fire is quite the effective weapon against freaks like you. It can't kill you, but it weakens you just enough for one to get closer to deal the final blow. Sadly, I don't have any silver; but a slicing wind spell should be good enough to cut off that ugly head of yours."
"Pathetic." The beast grumbled as it slammed a fist on the ground. "So what happens after you kill me? You run off to force your own sister to marry you?" The beasts voice was thick and low, like a landslide waiting to happen.
"I-I'll have you know that it isn't uncommon for royal families to-" Jack began.
"Enough!" The beast rose to its feet, it's eyes beginning to glow. The flames suddenly began to die down as they were pulled into a gnarly scar on the creatures chest. "Flames to ash, bones to dust. Hear my cries to the earths molten crust. Fang to throat, Blood to soil. Let the liquid in my veins begin to boil." The beast chanted as the scar on its chest turned into a festering wound as it absorbed the magical energy from the fire.
"What are you saying?! Is that a magical chant?" Jack took a hesitant step back as the beast towered over him once again. "Dammit, stay down! Ignis Iactus!" Another torrent of flame, but this time once it hit the beast the fire was instantly consumed by the glowing fissure on its chest. "Oh n-no..."
"Oh yesss."The beast flashed a toothy grin. Then in a blur of movement the beast back handed Jack, sending him through a bookshelf. "Tell you what, swear fealty to me and I'll promise not rip your throat out."
Jack slowly got back to his feet, his lower lip busted and the side of his once perfect face beginning to bruise a dark purple. "W-wait! I-I swear..." He uttered underneath his breath.
"Sorry, didn't hear you clearly. Say it again." The beast crept closer, with each thud of its feet Jack flinched inwardly.
"I swear! Dammit Mason, stop this!" Jack began to plead.
"Mason? Sorry kid, Mason isn't here right now." The beast glowered down at Jack. "Oh, and I've changed my mind. I'm going to rip your throat out anyway." Then the beasts eyes glowed a deep blood red as what ever consciousness it had been holding onto was finally beginning to slip away, locking Mason away in a far corner of its mind. Now only the wolf existed and it was pissed.
"Bollocks." Jack uttered to himself when he noticed the hunger in the beasts eyes.
The hulking beast rushed towards him on all fours, ramming bookshelves away like a bucking rhino. Letting out a blood curdling howl that made Jacks bones rattle.
