First Death
"We?" Mason looked up from his coffee; he had already added 8 sugar packets and two small cups of cream into it.
"Of course! How else would I keep watch over you, while you're all the way over here?" Devin questioned as he took another swig from his mug.
"You get a Facebook, or we could text?"
"Very funny," Devin said blankly. "Get ready, we are leaving." He stood.
"Wait! I have friends and family here. Plus, there's no way I'm going anywhere with you unless you can somehow prove werewolves even exist!" Mason said, setting his foot down.
"What? One bit you last night! And I can't just leave you here; you could change then tear your friends and family to bloody shreds!" Devin shouted. Then looked into Mason's squinted eyes; seeing the stubbornness of a mule.
"Fine! Give me some room, and for god's sake don't run or I'll chase you on instinct and you don't want that. Trust me."
Mason scooted his chair till it was against the wall. Then folded his arms across his chest; waiting for a man to grunt and pout but achieve nothing in the end.
This should be good, Mason thought to himself with a devilish smirk.
Then Devin got straight to the point. He crouched down low and began to inhale and exhale till it seemed he was hyperventilating. He began to moan and groan; he bent his head down staring at the floor. Mason sat at the edge of his seat, his gut telling him he was in for one heck of a show.
Suddenly Devin's head snapped up, Mason gasped in surprise. His blue eyes were now glowing silver and he cracked a twisted smile.
"Now you will see for yourself boy." Devin said, his voice sounding strange because of his changing form.
There was the odd crunching and snapping of bone, joints disconnecting and reconnecting. Devin began to growl as his face began to elongate; teeth becoming sharp canines and finger nails becoming razor sharp claws. The fur began to sprout from his skin, covering him in a light brown fur. He stood; he was taller now, at least the size of a full grown bear. It's a good thing that the muscle shirt and shorts stretched and didn't tear, or Mason would've truly been terrified.
"Well?" Devin said his voice gruff and unfamiliar.
Mason tried to blink this horrid creature from his eyes, from existence. But when he opened his eyes the beast stayed and watched him with those intense glowing eyes. "Devin, is that you?" He was scared, did this mean that what he was just told was all true, and if it did; what else was real?
"Do you have any idea how painful it is to transform without howling or making noise?" Devin scoffed and raked his claw against the sofa; they sliced right through the material like a knife through warm butter. "Dammit! That's coming right out of my wallet. That's it, I'm changing back! God, it stinks in here! In wolf form, our sense of smell is 50 times stronger. I'm sure this is enough proof, that your little world has just become a whole lot bigger."
And then just like someone had hit the rewind button, Devin fell to his knees and the fur molted off and before it could hit the ground it disintegrated into nothing, his claws retracted into regular finger nails. Then finally, the snapping and crunching sounds of bones popping back into place.
Mason was silent. He still couldn't fully grasp what he had just seen; he scanned his mind for something he missed. He had just seen a man turn himself into a man-beast, a werewolf. His hands griped his knees and he stared holes into the hotel rooms' carpet, it was maybe five minutes before Devin broke the silence.
"Not to say I told you so, but, I told you so." Devin said with a sly grin. He set down his coffee mug and began to refill it, "Now, I have been thinking of what you said earlier about your family and friends. It would look too suspicious if you just ran away, people would look for you, and your face would be on milk cartons all over the states. Can't have that."
Mason raised his head. "So I don't have to leave? I can just stay here and you could come over every now and then to check on me, right?" He was beginning to feel hope swell inside of him.
Devin chuckled a little and then let out a wholehearted laugh, then he dabbed at a tear on the corner of his sky blue eyes. "Ha ha! Oh gods, that was a good one."
And just like that, all of Mason's hopes of staying home came crashing down. A sudden gloom washed over him as he began to realize that his life as he knew it now was completely over.
"I'm glad you find happiness in my despair." Mason grumbled to himself as he whipped crumbs from his lap. Turning his face away from Devin so he couldn't see the tears swell in his eyes.
"Sorry, but that just tickled me to the core. Ha! Don't have to leave? Ha-ha! Man, you are a real gas."
"A real gas? Whatever, So what are we gonna do wolf man?" Mason quickly wiped his face to brush off the wetness in his eyes. Sitting across from a man who was a beast, a creature that could kill him without any real effort. He glanced down at his hand and noticed that it was shaking uncontrollably, He clenched his hand into a fist to stop the shaking.
Devin chuckled lightly to himself and then stood over the couch to examine the damage to the furniture.
"It's simple really," In one step, Devin was right behind Mason. He clasped his hand on Mason's chin with a firm grip. Mason was so surprised he barely uttered a sound. "You have to die." And then without hesitation or waiting on Mason to reply, he snapped his neck.
The crunch echoed throughout the room. It was a heavy noise, a sound that to anyone else would make them feel some sliver of guilt. But not Devin, snapping people's neck was as simple and natural as cracking his own knuckles. Mason's body was limp now and his hand still held a cookie. Devin sighed, released his chin, patted the boy on the shoulders, and then reached over to tug the cookie out of his lifeless hands grip.
"Yum, I do love me some Oreos." He finished the cookie and then glanced over at the boy, who now slumped in the chair. "Wow, I really should've waited till I brought him back to the park..."
He then got dressed, left a note of apology for the furniture he ruined and compensation on the table, tossed the boy onto his shoulders very ungracefully, and leaped out the window.

Later, at the park. Devin found the boys bike in a ditch on the side of the trail, right where he left it. He took the boy from his shoulder, cradled him in his arms and looked into the boys surprised wide eyes.
"Hmm. Should I close his eyes? Meh."With a grunt, Devin tossed the boy in the dirty ditch. "And Perfect! Well, this is the best fake biking accident I've done in a long while. No, actually it's my first fake biking accident. Hmm, I need to stop talking to myself."
He then kicked a little dirt onto the body and headed off. It wasn't long before a jogger came through, humming softly to her music with her headphones jammed into her ears. Noticing the bike tracks that suddenly swerved off trail, being possessed by natural curiosity she followed the tracks to the ditch were she then discovered Mason's lifeless body. His blank eyes staring up into the nearly cloudless sky.
The scream of the lady filled the small park, bids in the tree above her scattered into the sky. It was only a matter of moments before the emergency vehicles arrived onto the scene. With any luck they'll rule it as an accidental death,. The boy was riding his bike on a slippery trail, lost control on a sharp turn, fell into a ditch and snapping his neck in the process.
"Don't worry kid," Devin said under his breath as he lit a cigarette that he pulled from his jacket pocket. "You'll be back up in no time."
Sitting in the car, Devin stared down at the steering wheel; the anger seemed to rush in like a tidal wave. Wogan, that swine, how dare he completely spit on the laws of our pack and our family? Condemning an innocent child like Mason with the curse, he would never forgive him. Devin took his anger and let it out with a frustrated sigh, the smoke from his cigarette wafting slowly in the air; he pulled out his cell and dialed.
"Yes?" Said a deep voice.
"Alpha sir, I fear I have some bad news..."
>>>Holy buckets! Is this the end of Mason... or just the beginning? *evil laughter* Let me know what you think! :D P.S After a few comment saying that the original "First Death" chapter was too long, i decided to split it up into two. Crude Awakening and First Death. <<<
