Chapter 2 - Dreams
I was asleep. Or at least, it seemed like it. But where was I sleeping? It wasn't a bed. Was I dreaming? I guess I wasn't dead yet. Who am I? Jazmine?
"Jazmine? Gosh, you sleep like a rock! Is she okay?" I heard her voice. A smile in my dreams. She cares...
"Your friend is fine, she's just sleeping, so don't wake her. Sleep will probably be best in her case." The doctor replied stiffly, trying to usher the girl out of the room. But she would not be moved.
"What the heck?! What do you mean, 'in her case'? Gah, why do grown-ups have to be so annoying sometimes?! Ugh!" She flopped down on the cushioned bench next to the hospital bed, done with her short rant. She was always having those. Dreams filled with smoke. So badly I wanted to be ripped out of this reverie. If only she could figure out how. Pixels fill my mind. She was always a gamer... Her sweet giggles crash like thunder through my muddled head. I felt a hand brush my face, softly, as if the person were afraid of breaking me. "She's not going to wake up, is sh-" Her voice cracked slightly.
"Not anytime soon. But she's hanging in there. She's still alive, see?" She tapped the heart rate monitor. "All levels normal!" The woman in the white coat hoped that reassuring the girl would get her to leave, but she was stubborn. A rock wall stands in my unseen path. She sighed and turned around, wanting to check her supply of everything - just in case. When she turned back, the fair haired young girl had already set up the bench to be a bed. "Wh-! What? I-I, uh... Huh?" The doctor was a speechless, stammering mess. She sighed. The girl had won. She left the room, going to report on the patient - me.
"Oh, come on, girl! I know you're awake! Get up for me!" She shook my shoulders and put her hands on her hips when I didn't stir. Earthquakes? And this is how it went, ever since I started having those seizure-like spasms. My parents decided that I needed to go to the hospital, and I haven't been able to wake up since. I can hear everything they say about me, about how I was 'always a weird girl', and how I 'only hung around weird people'. So what if I was? I shifted in my sleep. Am I waking up? I haven't been able to move before. My dry lips cracked open.
"W-" It was all I managed to get out. Her eyes widened in surprise. Was I watching from above?
"Hey! You almost talked! I've got to tell the doctor!!" She squealed and ran out of the room. My eyes snapped open, and I was in full control of my body. I knew what I had to do. I opened the door, and ran. And, well... you know what happens next. My mind went black. The movie was over and the curtains were closing.
