FRANKENSTEIN
06 | Everybody wants to rule the World.
Love.
An intense feeling of affection.
The word; love, held many different meanings. Maybe you loved a mother, sister, brother, friend, partner? I knew for a fact that I loved the Cullen's, all differences aside they were the closest thing I had to a family.
According to Alice, the Volturi would be here by six o'clock precisely. They would all be meeting up in a field which was surrounded by the woods. Not too far from the Cullen's home, luckily. My thoughts had continuously drifted to Aro Volturi.
Even though the Cullens had spoken negatively about him on multiple occasions, I couldn't help but be excited to meet him. I mean this was the leader of the Volturi, and he was my mate. My mate. What an odd word; mate.
As I sat at the Cullen's kitchen table my eyes rested to the outside world, completely fixated on the overcast weather.
It seemed like it was always raining here in Elkins. It was rare that we got any sun, but I didn't mind. I would take the overcast any day over the windowless walls of the facility.
"We're going to head out now, the Volturi will be here soon." Esme placed a gentle hand on my shoulder causing me to turn around. All the Cullen's stood there looking at me with sullen expressions.
"Okay, how long do you think you'll be?" I questioned giving them all a smile.
"An hour at most, we'll call you once we're on our way back with the Volturi," Edward informed me. I glanced at the phone Jasper and Alice had gifted me before returning my gaze back to the Cullen's.
I nodded my red hair bouncing slightly as I did. Esme immediately engulfed me in a hug. Despite Esme's body temperature her hugs always seemed to warm me up. After she pulled away Renesmee was next. The other's followed, each giving me a hug, Carlisle being last.
As soon as Carlisle wrapped me into a fatherly hug I let out a deep breath. "We'll be back soon, okay. If anything happens, call me." He told me a compassionate look on his face. Since the chip had been turned off yesterday, odd things had been happening. My mind had been more active, meaning higher senses, and a knack for accidentally causing things to randomly start floating.
I gave Carlisle a small nod and watched as everyone filed out the door. Jacob and the rest of his pack would be meeting them at the field. For the next few minutes, I simply sat quietly to myself, thinking about what would happen when the Cullen's and the Volturi return.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when the song 'Proud Mary' began blasting. Because of my newfound love for the song, Edward placed it as my ringtone. I answered the call without checking who it was, expecting it to be one of the Cullens.
"Hello?" I brought the phone to my ear, picking at my nails.
"Frankie! You need to listen to me!" Came the voice of Laura through my phone.
"Oh, hello Laura! I didn't know you had my number, how are you?" I questioned politely a smile on my face.
"Frankie! I'll explain once I get there, but right now I need you to pack a small bag of clothes, quickly. Is Carlisle around? I tried calling him, but he hasn't answered." Laura's voice frantically came through the sound of tires squealing as well as an engine flooring sounding.
"No, he has a few close friends from Italy in town and decided he would take everyone out for a hike." I lied knowing that I wasn't supposed to say anything about the truth.
"Okay, well I'm going to be there in five minutes!" After she spoke, she cut the call. I pulled the phone away from my ear frowning slightly.
Shrugging my shoulders I casually walked up to my room and began packing a backpack full of clothes. The only other thing going in the bag other than clothes being a charger, my phone, and headphones.
As I zipped up the bag I could hear the front door open, and the thumping sound of boots. "Where the hell are you, Frankie!"
"Right here," I said back making my way downstairs. Laura turned around so she was facing me letting out a breath of relief.
"Thank God, come on we need to get you to the facility, right now." She quickly spoke walking toward the front door me following in suit.
"Why, what's going on?" I hastily asked back.
"There's a terrorist group headed straight for SHARE. There only fifteen minutes out, we believe there after the files on the Venitilium serum. Not only that, but they want living proof. They somehow managed to hack into our system's, they gained information on you, Frankie. That chip in your head, if they get into the mainframe they can take control of that chip. If they take control of the chip, they basically have control of you." Laura briefly explained while getting into the car.
Laura was driving an extremely nice, fast car. I was estimating that the cost was probably in the low millions. As soon as I shut my door, Laura was already off. Before I could ask any more questions Laura was on the phone.
"Hey Patrick, I got Frankie," Laura said. A moment of silence passed while Laura was presumably listening to him speak.
"Wait, what! Why?" Laura's tone changed to one of confusion.
"Okay, headed there now." She hung up. The car came to an immediate halt causing me to go flying forward. Luckily the seat belt was in the way stopping me before I could hit anything. Laura began backing the car up while spinning it at the same time.
"I thought we were going to the facility?" I questioned seeing as we were now going in the opposite direction of the facility.
"Change of plans. Carson just uploaded the entire mainframe to his laptop, they can't access anything unless they get a hold of that laptop. He just left the facility we're meeting at Willow's road." She said her attention focused entirely on the road.
"Okay, what about Carlisle? Shouldn't we warn him?" I asked thinking about the Cullens. The Volturi! Quickly looking at the clock in the car I looked at the time.
5:56 p.m.
The Volturi would be there in less than five minutes! I shook my head trying to formulate a plan.
"Both me and Carson have tried his phone at least thirty times. He's not picking up anytime soon, as soon as we get in contact with him we'll inform him on our next whereabouts." She explained causing me to freeze.
"What do you mean 'our next whereabouts'?"
"We're transferring you, Frankie. You can't possibly stay here, they've located the facility. We're on red alert as we speak! We cannot allow them to get to you. Trust me when I say if they manage to get a hold of you, all hell will break loose."
"Wait, we're going now?" I questioned worried, I couldn't leave now. Not at a time like this!
"As soon as we get to Dr. Carson we're leaving. He said he's thinking of New Mexico, Wyoming, or Washington." She explained stopping the car.
I took notice that we were at the meeting point, but Carson was nowhere to be seen. It makes sense though as Laura was driving very fast, and Dr. Carson is probably just leaving. "Now, we wait," Laura spoke keeping her eyes sharp to the road for any intruders. We were on a lonely road surrounded by forest.
"Laura, I need to pee. Very bad!" I exclaimed lying to her.
"Okay fine, be quick." She unlocked the car's doors for me. With no hesitation I ran off into the woods, Laura thinking it was simply for me to use the restroom.
Nope, I'm going to find the Cullen's. I know it wasn't the smartest move, but I also knew that if I didn't find Carlisle right now he'd go home with everyone only to see me missing. Aro would jump to the conclusion they were hiding me from him, and would no doubt put him on trial. I couldn't do that to him.
As I got deeper into the woods I realized I had no clue where they were. My fingers twitched with anticipation. I had to find them!
I stopped what I was doing and closed my eyes. Taking a small breath I focused in on my surroundings. Allowing my heightened hearing to take over, I listened for anything that could clue me into their location. Heavy breathing and small growls took place to my right.
Jacob's pack.
Opening my eyes I silently padded along the forest ground leading myself to what I hoped was the location. As if my prayers were answered I came upon a rather large clearing.
On one side of the clearing stood the Cullen's and Jacob's pack. On the other side stood eight proud dark-hooded figures. I knew quickly that this was the Volturi. All in sync the Volturi removed their hoods, revealing eight dazzling people. Every single one of them flawless, absolute perfection.
However, one stood out the most. In the middle and slightly ahead was a man who in my eyes had to be the aspiration of perfection. He attracted me in way's that were completely foreign.
He was tall, at least six foot maybe even over. His skin was translucently white, like a statue, and it looked almost soft - it stood in shocking contrast to the long raven hair which framed his face perfectly. I had a strange urge to run over and caress his cheek, or just touch him in any way possible.
His eyes burned an intimidating crimson color, alike to the others who surrounded him. He didn't appear to be that old, maybe mid-twenties at most. I knew right away this was my mate; Aro Volturi.
On his right stood a slightly younger looking man, with just as white skin - and long snowy hair. Caius Volturi.
On Aro's left stood a man who appeared to be the same age as him. His skin was just as translucent if not more, he held an expression which I thought to be a cross between bored and pained. It looked as if he were physically wounded. This was Marcus Volturi.
Behind the three kings stood five other vampires. Two of which were holding hands. The Witch Twins. A painfully tall, intimidating vampire stood proud glaring at the Cullen's; Felix. Next to him was a much more crafty vampire with a smirk adorning his features; Demetri. A woman with loose chocolate curls hanging down her face stood sharply watching the Cullen's, the way she held herself reminded me slightly of how Laura holds herself. Intimidating and proud. This was no doubt, Chelsea.
"Aro, it has been a while," Carlisle spoke out stepping forward in front of his clan. Aro appeared to be studying, the small coven. His gaze lingered on Alice for a bit, obviously thinking of her ability.
"Yes, I'm afraid our last meeting terms were unfortunately not the most pleasant." Aro sighed in a feigned sadness.
"It would appear a lot has happened within the past eleven years. I do want to give my sincere condolences on the passing of your wife." Carlisle spoke politely. This comment made Caius hiss as he remembered the attack his own wife had suffered. Aro held his hand up to Caius for obvious silence.
"Yes, it was one of the most grieving periods of time. Though I can assure you nothing like that will ever happen again." Aro said sternly not seeming upset about his late wife. As terrible as it was this made me slightly happy.
His eyes began wandering over the Cullen's until finally landing on Renesmee. "Ah, Renesmee. It would appear Nahuel spoke the truth those eleven years ago, as you have hit complete maturity I presume?" Aro gave a slightly unnerving smile to Renesmee. I watched Renesmee shiver under his gaze before nodding her head in confirmation. She leaned onto Jacob as a sign of comfort.
"Yes, she has been mature for almost four years now, and not once has she attacked a single human - nor has she drawn any attention to us." Bella deadpanned. Aro's gaze flickered to her and a large smile lit up his features.
"Young, Bella." He drew out his words looking her up and down. "Immortality is still becoming of you. Am I right in assuming you have not feasted on the pleasantries of sweet, human ambrosia?"
"No, and I never will."
"Hmm, what a shame." Aro tsked shaking his head. His head then moved toward Alice who was clinging to Jasper's side.
"Alice, I almost forgot you were here! I take it your gift is treating you well." Aro questioned referring to her ability to see the future.
"Yes." She answered shortly flashing him a dazzling smile. He gave her a wide grin and held out his palm. Carlisle had informed me of all the gifts of the Volturi. Aro wanted to read Alice's mind.
I could see Alice become slightly crestfallen at the fact that Aro was to see inside her mind. The Cullen's were holding onto the small amount of hope that maybe Aro would decide not to read their thoughts, and he wouldn't need to find out about me. That hope was just shattered.
Begrudgingly with Jasper at her side, they began to walk toward the Volturi. The Volturi could now clearly see that there was something the Cullen's did not want Aro seeing, and now Aro was that much more determined to find out what it was. What exactly were the Cullen's attempting to hide?
As soon as Alice stood in front of Aro she delicately held out her hand. Greedily Aro encased his larger hand over her's. His eyes seemed to glaze over as if he was in deep thought. A misty smile soon took over his features at whatever he was seeing. "So, incredibly beautiful." Were the words Aro spoke as his mouth opened ever so slightly.
After a few more seconds of Aro looking through Alice's memories, he let go. The dazed smile still adorned his features as he seemed to stare off into space. This caused the rest of the Volturi to look perplexed.
"Brother?" Caius's voice cut through the silence - alike to a knife. "What is it you saw?"
"I saw her. My true mate, mi amore." He spoke the last words in perfect Italian. This caused the rest of the Volturi to look flabbergasted. Even Marcus was slightly shocked.
With no words, Alice and Jasper ran back to the Cullen's side of the field. "Her name is, Frankie," Carlisle announced loudly to Aro and the rest of the Volturi.
"Where is she?" Aro demanded with a look at the Cullen's as if daring them to lie to him.
"To my knowledge, she is at our home." Carlisle sighed knowing no matter how much he wanted to, he could not hide the truth from him.
For the first time, Marcus spoke up. "Aro, I can see the bond tying you to someone nearby." This caused silence throughout the entire field.
"That's not possible." It was Rosalie who spoke this time with narrowed eyes at Marcus. "Frankie is sitting in our home, more than five miles away."
"Apparently not, if Marcus can see our brother tied to someone near." Caius hissed out, absolutely enraged that someone dared to doubt, Marcus.
My heart seemed to drop. Marcus can see relationship ties, it wouldn't be long before they found me. Especially as I wasn't even hiding I was simply just standing in the forest surrounding the field.
In Carlisle's own word's I didn't have a scent, and my heart beat very slow. Perhaps if I left now they would never even know. I stopped breathing ignoring the odd feeling it gave me, reminding myself that I had to at least try to leave this situation unseen.
I slowly backed away from the field which was now endorsed in silence. They were trying to see if they could hear me nearby. With my eyes locked onto the vampires, I became slightly hopeful that my plan would work.
That plan was quickly trashed when I heard a familiar voice scream my name. If I could hear her, there was no doubt that everyone on that field could hear it as well. "Frankenstein, get your ass back here!" Laura Marshall's voice rang out.
