FRANKENSTEIN
46 | Devil's Work.
THE look on my mother's face when she saw Maverick was heartwarming. She tackled him into a hug, placing dozens of kisses all over his face. The two of them cried into each other, my mother more so than Maverick. She refused to let him go, until my dad told her he had a surprise for her.
Once I revealed myself, my mother stood in shock. Eventually she broke down, and ran to me doing the same as she had to Maverick. Now, the two of us were both attached to her sides, as she wouldn't let us go. Her reaction to finding out what Patrick did, was worse than my dad's. My mom literally slapped him, and dad was forced to pull her away.
It was quite funny in my opinion. However, it didn't last long as both Carlisle and Patrick left the room - wanting to discuss a hypothesis as to why my eyes turned black. Carlisle had suggested it had some sort of connection to my emotions, and was triggered when I went into extreme anger. A theory Patrick backed.
Laura was called to the other side of the large building facility in a meeting with some of the other top agents. This left my family and I alone in the room that had been named the 'operating room'. Technically it wasn't really a operating room, more like a very futuristic Biology lab.
"Can we get back on the subject of Jolene dating a man that's eight years older than her?" Maverick complained as Hadlee and mom began a debate on which Kardashian was the best.
"You're dating a twenty-five year old man?" My mom questioned, flabbergasted, doing the math in her head.
"Oh my god, I thought we were already past this! I love him, age is just a number anyway." I stated, stubbornly.
Besides he wasn't even eight years older than me. He was like three-thousand or something like that. Okay, maybe that wasn't a very good point to bring up.
"Yeah, stop picking on her. She found someone she loves, give it a rest." Hadlee was quick to my defense.
"If I don't like this guy, I swear I'll beat him up." Maverick promised, waving a fist in the air.
I only laughed at him, shaking my head. Gosh he could be overprotective.
"Let's change the subject, Donica don't you want to tell your brother and sister something?" Mom rose a knowing eyebrow, at our oldest sister.
Hadlee smirked at this, giving her a knowing look. Dad only scoffed, rolling his eyes beginning to play with his robotic watch.
I looked at Donica in confusion, along with Maverick. She only blushed holding out her left hand. On her ring finger, was a simple diamond ring. It sat innocently enough, despite the fact that it screamed big words. Donica was engaged.
"You're engaged, I swear I'll kill the guy! What's his name, where does he live?" Maverick screamed, standing from mom's grip.
My dad stood as well, agreeing with him. "His name's Logan, and he's a dumb son of a bitch!"
"He's mutant too, he has a healing factor, and sharp metal Adamantium claws. He's also is very hot." Hadlee pitched, with a mischievous smile.
Mom have her a look, earning an innocent shrug in reply. "I was just saying." Hadlee smirked.
"I'd like to see him try to take on dad in the Iron Man suit, and me beating his ass at the same time!" Maverick declared, raising a dramatic fist.
"Would the both of you sit down." Donica snapped, her brown eyes glaring at both males. "He's not even that bad, dad." She crossed her arms.
"Yeah, I think he's sweet." Mom told dad, giving him a look.
"Thank you, mom." Donica spoke.
"Sure he's nice, when he's not smoking or cussing." Dad deadpanned.
"He has a healing factor, smoking doesn't affect him!" Donica threw her hands in the air.
"I already don't like him, if he comes near you I'll beat him up!" Maverick threatened, causing Donica to go into a fit of anger.
Donica's hair turned pink, as she lost control of her mutation.
"Stop threatening to beat everyone up, you couldn't even beat Jolene." Donica snorted at the last part.
"Are you kidding me, right now! That was such an unfair fight." Maverick tried to defend himself.
"It looked pretty fair to me." Hadlee piped, picking at her nails.
"Who's side are you on?" Maverick stressed, looking to Hadlee exasperated.
Before she could retort, the door opened revealing Patrick and Carlisle who walked in. Carlisle flashed us all a friendly smile, before turning his attention to me.
"Do you mind if I steal you away for just a second, Jolene?" He questioned.
"Not at all." I stood and walked with him out of the room.
As we made our way down the hallway, a thought occurred to me.
"I want to thank you, Carlisle. You took in me and gave me a place in your family, a home. You allowed for me to have a mother and father when I needed one most. I can never repay you for that." I told him, pulling him into a hug.
Carlisle wrapped his arms around me, the familiar smell of honey and oak filling my nostril's. He kissed the top of my hair, resting his chin on it.
"It was my honor, you're a daughter to me, Jolene. You always will be." He pulled away, giving me a warm smile.
I sniffed away the tears, nodding my head. "Now, back to the matter at hand. I assume you pulled me out here for a particular reason?" I smiled lightly at him.
Carlisle have me a small smile, before nodding. "I just got a call from Aro, he's enraged that you're gone." He explained.
I gave a look of confusion. In total it had only been about three day's since they all left for battle. They weren't due back until tomorrow. As if reading my thoughts, Carlisle answered. "They arrived early, the clash with the Romanians didn't last long - the Volturi destroyed the remaining remnants of the coven."
"Wow, that really didn't last long." I pondered.
"Yes, no coven can stand against the Volturi." Carlisle sighed, bringing his hands behind his back.
"Hmm," I sighed. "I assume Aro wants an explanation?" I hummed, thoughtfully. "I'll go and call him, explain the situation."
"There's no need for that." Carlisle admittedly sighed. "Aro, Caius and a few of the guard are coming here. He's angry; Jolene, I must admit Aro is generally well at keeping his anger in tact, but he's not doing so well about it now. This is unnerving, I feel as though we should prepare for his wrath."
I bit my lip at this, my own nerves beginning to shake me. I literally ran away from the castle, everyone knew that was one of the top rules - especially for me. There was no possible way Aro was just going to let this go.
"When will he be here?" I asked quietly, looking at Carlisle nervously.
Sweat prickled at my hands, as they nervously shook. I wiped them on my pants in an attempt at drying them.
"I'd give it nineteen hours at the most. The flight here is fourteen hours, and I'm adding on an extra five for preparations of their jet - and the drive it takes to get to Florence." Carlisle placed a comforting hand on my shoulder, soothingly rubbing it.
"Patrick is okay with this?"
"Yes, I told him Aro was very worried as were his family. I was able to convince him in allowing the Volturi access in here." He explained, but frowned when he saw my face paling. "Don't think too much on it, Aro will understand your reason for leaving."
"It's not that, how am I suppose to tell my family? We both know Aro can't stray from Volterra for too long, and I know he won't return without me. How am I going to leave?" I hyperventilated.
With a sigh, Carlisle pulled me into him. "Your father is a very powerful man; Jolene. Explain to him the situation, I'm sure he'll be able to pull a few strings to get you out of here." Carlisle soothed, rubbing my head.
He had a point, if I could convince my dad on my love for Aro - he would no doubt get me out of here. The biggest issue was whether or not he would even like Aro, as he didn't seem to like Donica's fiance. Then again, my father was a sucker for intelligent men - I knew Aro could easily win him over. That and his charming vampire looks. I mean, I had to listen to Hadlee swoon over Carlisle for the past hour and a half straight.
With a sigh, I rubbed my eyes. I had to prepare for the wrath Aro would come in with. I could only hope he would more empathetic once he read Carlisle's thoughts.

"Jolene, why did you attack me?" Patrick questioned, from where he stood in front me.
His questions irked me. Was it not obvious why I attacked him. He ripped me from Heaven and broke the greatest rule Death has. What is dead, stays dead.
Patrick had taken it upon himself to do a test of sorts on me. Carlisle was next to him, writing down everything I said.
"Because you ripped me from paradise." I clipped, my eyes narrowing at him.
"Paradise? Please define what you mean by that." Patrick said, his eyes looking at me confused.
"Stop fucking around!" I roared, my anger snapping. It would seem I was quite emotional lately. "You heard exactly what I said! Paradise, you know Heaven! I was in Heaven, I was at peace - I was resting. Then, you took me away from it! Do you know how it feel's to be so at peace, and then have it taken away? No you don't! What is dead, stay's dead! That is the way it works, you don't find a way around that because of your own selfish guilt." I hissed the last part venomously.
Both Patrick and Carlisle held a shocked look in their eye. "You remember what it was like after death?" Patrick questioned in awe.
"Is that not what I just said?" I snapped, crossing my arms over my chest glaring at my idiotic uncle fiercely.
"Can you please explain what it was like?" Patrick questioned, ignoring my snide attitude completely.
I was about to refuse, until I saw the look of excitement from Carlisle. He wanted to know too. I knew I couldn't deny Carlisle this knowledge, and let out a defeated sigh. Thinking back to the first moment I died, I started from the beginning.
"I ran through darkness, into the light. Then, everything exploded - and I could see. I mean see so much more - colors I never knew existed, beauty that was only described in fictional tales. There was no noise, only a tranquil silence. I felt so awake, more awake than I have in my life. So many positive emotions swirled through me, and then suddenly I was staring at him." I paused, an image of God seared into my brain.
"He was so perfect, that I can't even describe it to you. He was all in white, in a robe when I saw him, with a huge crown on his head. He looked at me, and his eyes are fierce like fire, but there is no color, just bright looking at me. I couldn't tell you how long I stared at him, and then he held out a hand - and I took it. He was gone, but I was somewhere I had never been before. I remember the soft white dress of the fabric I wore, everything it was so magnificent, so perfect." My eyes lit up as I described what I perceived to be beautiful Heaven.
"It was the literal definition of paradise, and I never wanted to leave. I couldn't even imagine leaving it was so grand. I met many people, historical figures to be exact. Martin Luther King Jr. stuck out to me the most though. He was so nice, open, friendly - I traveled saw galaxies and different creatures, it was amazing. It felt like five minutes had gone by at most, it didn't feel long at all - before the searing pain began. At first it pulled me into a tranquil sort of sleep before I was awoken by a sharp pain in my chest area. The pain didn't last long, but then I was drowning. Or at least I thought I was, I couldn't be sure because all I was able to focus on was my panic. I called for the lord, and he came - he tried to grab me, to pull me away, I remember seeing his bright light. However, before he grabbed me I was gone - staring into the eyes of my 'creator'." I ended my story, glaring at my uncle.
Carlisle looked at me in wonder, before a smile was painted across his features. It was apparent he was thinking of Heaven. Patrick looked at me with furrowed brows as if confused. He simply shook his head, motioning to a bed which was in the corner of the room.
"I think it's best if you get a bit of rest, Jolene. Carlisle and I will discuss this elsewhere." I only nodded my glare still fierce on him.
"What's with the second bed?" I questioned, nodding to the second bed across from the first one I looked at.
"Maverick will be joining you soon." Patrick said.
"What about the rest of my family." I said carefully.
"Donica, Hadlee, and your mom are heading home considering it's not even thirty-minutes away. Your dad is going to bunk here for the night, because he'll be helping us with studying a sample of your DNA." Patrick sighed, tapping his foot.
I knew the place had multiple bedrooms, because of agents and scientist who stayed here overnight. Patrick, Carlisle, and Laura included in that.
"What's the big idea? Huh? Why are Maverick and I not allowed to stay at home tonight?" I stubbornly said.
"Are you fucking serious? You tried to kill me, and Maverick killed over ten agents! You and him had a full-on brawl! You're obviously a little unstable and overwhelmed. What happens if all the sudden you snap? You know the danger that put's your family in?" Patrick argued, making a good point.
As much as I wanted to fight him on this, I knew he was right. I couldn't put my family in harms way like that.
"Fine," I sighed in defeat, before my attention was brought to a man who ran through the hallway screaming blood murder. I was confused when Patrick and Carlisle didn't even turn to look at this guy, seemingly to not notice him. It took me a second to realize this was a spirit, it was odd this place didn't have very many spirits wandering. Usually there were more.
"Oh, would you shut up! I'm trying to sleep!" I screamed out of no where, causing both doctor's to jump.
As I took the white shoes off and laid in the bed, I looked to the two men who stared back like I was crazy. "Sorry, it was just a spirit." I muttered pushing my face into the pillow.
Patrick only breathed out, Carlisle giving me a small 'good night' as the two of them left. Much to my dismay, the spirit continued screaming. With an angered huff, I turned on my side to face the blundering spirit.
"Spirit of the dead, move on!" I commanded, watching as the spirit looked to me wide-eyed.
The man's ghostly body, began turning a vibrant blue - before it was a simple whisp of air. Another party trick I had learned with being a medium, if I so see fit I could command a spirit to move on. I didn't really like doing that as I much preferred they move on in peace, doing what they were still here for. However, if it was something impossible like 'marry a man who died a hundred years ago', than I just commanded them to move on.
In this case, I just need a peaceful slumber so I could be ready for the drama tomorrow. The last thing I remember before falling asleep was the door opening, and my brother walking in.
AHHH! GUYS, THIS BOOK IS TO COMING TO A CLOSE SOON. WE ARE IN THE FINAL FEW CHAPTER'S! I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING THE TIME IN READING THIS, YOU HAVE NO CLUE HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO ME, I LOVE HEARING COMMENTS ON WHAT PEOPLE THINK - IT MAKES MY DAY!
THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK I HAVE THAT IS GOING TO BE COMPLETED, SO YAY! THE CHARACTERS HAVE TRULY GROWN ON ME, AND I AM GOING TO MISS THEM. HOWEVER, I WAS CONSIDERING DOING A SEQUEL. NOW, IN MY OPINION SEQUEL'S ARE NEVER AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL STORY LINE, SO THAT'S WHY I AM LEAVING IT UP TO YOU ALL. DO YOU THINK I SHOULD LEAVE THIS BOOK AS A STAND-ALONE, OR SHOULD I MAKE A CONTINUATION OF IT? I HAVE PLENTY MORE IDEAS ON WHERE THIS SERIES COULD GO, SO I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT THAT - I'M JUST WORRIED ON WHAT YOU ALL WILL THINK.
IF I WAS TO DO A SEQUEL THOUGH, WOULD YOU WANT THE PROTAGONIST TO BE SOMEONE DIFFERENT? LIKE MAYBE HAVE HADLEE OR MAVERICK BECOME THE MATE OF ANOTHER VAMPIRE, AND DO IT FROM THEIR POINT OF VIEW - KIND OF LIKE A SPIN-OFF? OR WOULD YOU ALL RATHER FRANKIE/JOLENE STAY AS THE PROTAGONIST, AND CONTINUE HER STORY AS THERE IS STILL MUCH TO TELL.
ANOTHER OPTION COULD BE A CAIUS VOLTURI STORY. THOUGH, IT WOULD HAVE NO STRINGS ATTACHED TO THIS BOOK, AS I LOVE DORA AND CAIUS WAY TO MUCH. BUT YEAH, JUST ANOTHER OPTION TO CONSIDER.
HOWEVER, THIS IS ALL SOMETHING WE CAN THINK ABOUT IN THE FUTURE - I JUST WANTED TO GET IT IN YOUR MINDS. AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR READING, COMMENT YOUR THOUGHTS ON ALL THIS, SO I KNOW WHERE THE IDEA STANDS!
