Ria's POV
I sit in my bedroom with Maple's head in my lap. I really have fallen for this sweet woman.
After saving Francesca and the other ladies that were harmed from the "Red Sword's" wrath I took Maple on a date.
He drank champagne and ate seafood on a yacht under the moonlight. I would have never thought I could be a romantic, but Maple Thompson made me one.
I drove her home and we had the best fucking sex I have ever experienced. Who the fuck knew that Maple had a needy little sex drive.
A book is in my hands that I can't focus on. I have reread the same long paragraph five times already.
I look at Maple to see her eyebrows drawn together. She seems to be deep in thought. Her curly hair lazily sprawled in an oval shape.
I close my book shut making her jump. Only this time, it's me who knits my eyebrows together. Why is she so jumpy lately? Every little noise has been startling her for the past few weeks. I'm starting to worry.
I brush my hand across her bare stomach, feeling her become tense.
"What's on your mind, beautiful?"
The forest green eyes that I have fallen in love with hold a deep sadness. I want nothing more than to take all the problem away from her, but if she doesn't let me in, how am I supposed to do so?
"N-Nothing."
Lies.
I get the same damn response everyday I ask her. I'm starting to hate that fucking word.
Oh, it's nothing.
Nothing is wrong.
It's nothing. Just thinking.
Maybe some persuasive techniques can make her talk. I start to trail my hand downwards on her nude body. She shivers but sadly grabs my hand.
"Now I know something is wrong, Maple." I mumble, easing her hand up to my lips. I peck the pale, soft skin and let out a pouty whine. "Why won't you be honest?"
"I am. I-!" She closes her eyes and sits up. My eyes follow the delicious curves her body has to offer. The little bounce of her full tits sends a feeling straight to my clit.
Fuck me.
"We need to talk." Her voice shakes. I can tell she is on the verge of tears.
"Beautiful, you can tell me anything. There is no need to be closed off."
"I-I know, Ria." She pushes a hand through her long hair. "I know, but I did something really fucked up."
I see tears start to leave her eyes. They trail down her cheeks, all the way down to her neck. I hate to see my girl friend cry. Maple deserves happiness.
She starts to pick up the dress laying on the floor. I can't help but frown this time. Hey, I took that off your body. That dress fucking stays off.
"What did you do, Maple? I'm sure we can fix it."
She lets out a humorless chuckle. The look in her eyes are so sad yet cold. I start to get off the bed, finding my own clothes.
"You're going to hate me, Ria." She sobs, sinking down to her knees. "I-I don't want you to hate me. I love you so much but my-!" She starts to hyperventilate.
"Oh God, Maple." I finish putting on my jeans and run over to her. "Maple." I say her name softly, wrapping my arms around her petite body. "Breathe, Maple." I wipe away her tears and rock us back in forth.
She starts to calm down after a couple of minutes.
"He threatened to hurt my grandma." She whispers.
"Your grandma?" My eyes squint in confusion. She told me she didn't have any family. She told me that she was in an adoptive agency her whole life.
"Yeah." She sniffles, going limp in my arms. "I had to give him information or he would kill her. She's the only family I have. I-I don't want her to die, Ria." She cries silently, and this time I freeze.
A bad feeling pools in the pit of my stomach. This conversation is going to take a turn that isn't great. I can fucking feel it.
She lets out a shaky breath. "Dominick kidnapped me when I went shopping alone a couple weeks ago. He also kidnapped my grandma to use her as leverage. He told me if I became an informant and was useful he would release my grandma." Maple's voice is now full of regret. I can see it in her pretty eyes.
My hands pull away from her body as she continues on. "When I was a seven years old my parents disappeared. I was in school and they never picked me up." She plays with the lose threads on her shirt with a sad smile. "My grandma was the one to take me in though. She raised me until she couldn't. She got lung cancer when I was graduating high school."
I stare at the girl in front of me. I don't know who she is anymore. I thought I did, but I don't. Everything that come out of her mouth in the past was a lie. How could I have been so foolish?
"I was broke and had no money. My grandma had only about two-thousand dollars in our bank account, which is basically nothing." She rubs her eyes that have stopped leaking pathetic tears.
"I went to a casino to try to gamble some money. Hopefully, I would win more than lose more, but then that's where I met you." She looks up at me with a little grin. "It was love at first sight. All that jewelry that you bought me was sold. I sold it at a pawn shop to pay for my grandma's hospital bills."
"Maple." I sneer her name. Her name sounds so foreign when it's spoken now. "You fucking lied to me, and to everyone here. We loved you, Maple. How could you?" My heart feels broken.
Is this what a broken heart feels like?
"Ria, I love you. That isn't a lie. Please just listen." She starts to get up but I push her down gently.
I don't trust her anymore. Even though Dominick is dead, she could still have ties with the Russian gang.
She whimpers like I just slapped her even though I was gentle. I could never hurt her even though she just mentally killed me.
"You have five minutes to make your peace before I-!" I stop speaking. What will I do? I don't want to hurt her! I love her, but what she did calls for a bullet between her eyes.
"Ria. Please..." I see her beg, her waterworks starting to function again.
"I'm fucking listening."
She takes a deep breath before speaking again. "After I fulfilled Dominick's wishes he gave me money and released of my grandma. H-He told me to move somewhere far away, b-but I couldn't. I couldn't just leave. I love you too much, Ria. I need you." She sputters, looking up at me with her lip between her teeth. "I used half the money to put my grandma into a five-star rated nursing home, and the rest went to paying off the debt both me and my grandma owed."
She stops to reach for my hand. I immediately pull away, afraid that I will fall under he spell again.
"Ria, I swear all this was out of my control. My grandma is everything to me. Please you have to understand."
"Maple." I snap. She finally shuts up and listens. I get off the floor and grab a suitcase from the closet. "Pack your stuff and get the fuck out of here. I will end your fucking life if I ever see your pretty little face again, you hear?"
"N-No please." She clutches her chest, letting out an ugly sound. "I love you. Please don't do this, I'm begging you."
"GET. THE. FUCK. OUT. OF. HERE."
My loud voice seems to do the trick. She whimper and cries. And each time she does my heart seems to shatter. I can't believe she lied to me.
Once she's done packing she meets my eyes with a scared look. I rummage through my nightstand and grab one stack of cash. It's there for emergencies.
"Here's five-thousand." I harshly push the money in her hands. "It's enough for you to get a flight out of New York and start a new life."
"Y-you want me to start a new life?"
"Yeah." I chuckle humorously. "All you got to do is lie. You have proven you're good at that."
I watch her wince. I wanted nothing more than to hug the women I have fallen dangerously in love with, but I can't. I'm afraid if I do, I succumb into her lies all over again.
"Now leave. You have ten minutes until I share that you're a lying bitch to the rest of the mafia."
She looks at the floor like it has all the answers in life. "I love you, Ria." She whispers softly, before running out of the estate.
A/N- Aww I'm so sad right now. 😭
