Chapter 4: Part 1 Our imaginary friend

Fran walked through the door. "My goodness! The door opened! Wow... interesting!" Fran said. "Come on, guys, let's find out where we are!" She said. The cat and two girls walked out from the door. "Oh, girls! I hope we can find home soon. I'm starving!" Mr. Midnight said. "Now that you mention it, I am too." (Y/n) said. "Guys, look! I think we are at the other side of the bridge!" Fran said. "Do you remember? The one we tried to cross before we fell into Ithersta!" Fran said. "Yes! I remember!" Mr. Midnight said. "It really wasn't that long ago, Fran." (Y/n) said jokingly. "Great! Let's keep on going, guys! We have to be careful now!"

Fran crossed her arms, then saw a pill bottle on the ground and tried to grab it, but it rolled away. "Are these our pills? Wow! But, where are they going?!" She asked. They followed Fran as she ran after the bottle. They see a wooden sign that said "home" "Home... I guess home is in that direction!" Fran said. "I don't know. I mean who knows if we can trust this sign." (Y/n) said. "You're suspicious of a sign now, (Y/n)?" Fran asked. "You know what I mean, Fran. It could be misleading." (Y/n) said, a hint of annoyance in her voice. Fran tried to grab the pills, and they moved away again. "Pills? Don't move! Argh! You want to show me the way back home?" Fran asked. Fran ran after the pills again. "Fran, wait!" (Y/n) quickly followed her.

She stands behind her once she caught up, and just as Fran bends down to pick up the bottle, a net came out from the ground and caught them, hanging on a tree branch. "Whoa!" (Y/n) said. "Oh, no! I shouldn't have touched the pills! Bad Fran! Bad, bad!" Fran scolded herself, then took out the knife from her purse and used it to cut the net, and they land back on the ground. (Y/n) stood up, then (Y/n) helped Fran up. A skeleton peeked from the bushes, then lifted his head up a little. "Fran? (Y/n)? You're already here!

Well...I wasn't expecting you until 2:35! ...And as I see it, you are not trapped anymore! Interesting!" He said. "Who the hell are you?" (Y/n) asked, standing in front of Fran protectively. The skeleton chuckled a little. "Let me introduce myself! I am Itward! Your faithful friend!" The skeleton said to Fran. "Itward? Wait a minute..." (Y/n) remembered that being written on the mirror back at the mental hospital, and them seeing him go through a portal in that same room, but only for a split second. "Do we know you from somewhere? You seem familiar!" Fran said to Itward. "Yes!... I'm the creature of the night! We've been playing together!" He said. "I helped you two get Mr. Midnight back! You see?" He asked.

"That presence Mr. Midnight was talking about earlier. That was you?" (Y/n) asked. "Really? Huh!... I think we managed quite well to find our kitty on our own!" Fran said. "Hey! Aren't you the one that made the sisters mad?" (Y/n) asked. "No, it wasn't me making the sisters mad! They believed it was me! You see? But that's because they never looked into themselves!" Itward said. "What do you mean by that?" (Y/n) asked. "They blamed me, instead of facing the fact that, their parents never loved them!" Itward said. "...But let's stop talking about the sisters, shall we?" Itward asked. "Don't you recognize me, dear Fran and (Y/n)? The long man with the top hat?" He asked. "I always came by night and told you stories when you were just little babies!" He said. "Really?" (Y/n) asked.

"Yes. I came to you after you imagined me! But I'm not imaginary... You see? I'm part of your reality." He said. "Our reality?" (Y/n) asked in confusion. "Did we imagine you? You look quite familiar, yes... I can't deny that!" Fran said. "I exist because you two exist! The truth is that... ...you were able to imagine me, because I already existed!" He said, confusing (Y/n) further. "Wait, what?" (Y/n) asked. "...Anyway... we don't have time to talk about this right now! Actually, I'm here to take you home, follow me!" Itward said. "Take us home? I can't let you do that! We don't know you!" Fran said. "I won't hurt you... I'm not made out of darkness! I'm your friend!" Itward said.

"Mmm... Alright, you seem nice. We'll go with you, but I won't trust you yet." Fran said. "That's fine! Come on now! I have something to show you!" The tall skeleton came out from the bushes and walked away, and they followed him to some kind of machine. "Behold! The Itward flying machine! What do you think?" He asked. "Uh..." (Y/n) said as she looked at the machine. "I love it! It has many buttons to push!" Fran said. "Yes! With this gorgeous piece of machinery, I'll take you home!" Itward said. "We'll fly as soon as I fix the details, besides it's not 2:35 yet!" "What's so important about 2:35?" (Y/n) asked. "It's when time becomes slower and that gives us a chance to enter the Ultrareality!" Itward said.

"Inside the Ultrareality, we can travel wherever we want to go! Right now, we are standing on the endless limits of the Second reality.. ...but you are part of the Third reality! Do you understand?" Itward said. "You know at this point I think I'm just gonna pretend that I do." (Y/n) said. "Yes, I do understand! It sounds insane! But, sir? Should we just wait until you are done fixing the machine?" Fran said. "Wait? Of course not! You can help by getting water and fireberries, alright?" Itward asked. "Alright! It's better to do something than nothing at all, I guess." Fran said.

"Great! Here is my amazing handmade bucket for the water! I made it myself!" (Y/n) took it from him. "Ah! And the fireberries! You'll realize which berries to pick up because of the fire!" Itward said. "Alright! But, sir? Can I just ask? Why do you need the berries and the water?" Fran asked. "Ah! Well, the berries are incredibly good fuel! They last many, many hours!" Itward said. "And the water is to get rid of the dirt! ...The Kamalas!" The skeleton said. "Oh! Kamalas! I see... I hope they don't come around the flying machine!" Fran said. "We never know! But we do know that they don't like water! Yes? Oh, darling! I almost forgot! Your medicine... you need it!" Itward asked. "Some things are still invisible to your eyes, you see? Here.." Itward gives Fran the bottle of pills. "Invisible to our eyes? Hmmm, I see... Well, thank you!" She said.

"I was trying to catch the pills earlier, but the trap caught us first!" Fran said. "Oh, yes! About that! I'm sorry... I needed to get your attention somehow!" Itward said. "That's how you get people's attention? Trapping them in nets?" (Y/n) asked. "It's okay, sir! I defeated the trap like in one second!" Fran said. "Anyway... we'll go get the fireberries and the water! We'll be right back!" Fran said. "Great! I'll be preparing the machine!" Itward said.

Fran then takes out two pills and hands one to (Y/n). "Well?" She asked, wondering if she wanted to take one with her. (Y/n) shrugged. "Eh, why not? I've been on the journey with you this far." (Y/n) joked. They each take a pill, and the place around them once again changes. The sky became red, and they saw one of the ghost faces from before hanging off a tree with its long white hair. "Hello? Are you those shiny insects that get stuck on trees because of curiosity?" Fran asked. "We usually get stuck, yes! How do you know this? You are not one of us!" She said. "We met some friends of yours a while back." (Y/n) said. "We helped them to get free from curiosity!" Fran said. "Ah! That is very nice of you! Curiosity can lead us to unexpected situations!" The head said.

"Yes... I think curiosity is a good thing! But... are you stuck?" Fran asked. "Not at all! We're just trying to make our hair the longest hair ever." She replied. "Wow! That sounds amazing! I need help, please! Would you allow me to tie this bucket to your beautiful hair?" Fran grabbed the bucket from (Y/n). "Tie a bucket to our hair?! Why? ...That sounds insane!" The head said. "Oh! It's not insane at all! We need water from under the cliff but we can't reach it! We need to use your beautiful, long hair as a rope! Please, help us!" Fran said. "Alright! We'll help you! Tie the bucket real tight!"

The head said. "Oh! Thank you! You're very nice! Fill up the whole bucket, please!" Fran said. The head grabs the bucket with her hair, and pulls it down to the waterfall, and a few minutes later brings it back up. "The bucket is now full of water!" She said. (Y/n) took the bucket back. "Thank you." She said. "Thank you, shiny insects! We have to go now, we have to go home!" Fran curtsied. "Home is somewhere, we all wish to belong... but does home belong somewhere?" The head asked. "What? I'm sorry, I didn't really understand the question!" Fran said, looking puzzled. "It was a rhetorical question! I just wanted to say that, you are your own home! Welcome yourself inside! You will find many doors to open!" The head said. "Oh! That sounds mysterious and beautiful! I'll try to do that some other time! Bye!" Fran said.

"Get out! Get out! You are trespassing on my territory!" A skeleton shouted at them as they kept moving. "Huh? Excuse me! I thought you were dead!" Fran said. "How can you possibly think that? You have no manners, young lady!" The skeleton shouted. "I'm very sorry! But you seem to be all rotten and bloody!" Fran said. "Me? Rotten and bloody! I think you are misunderstanding the situation!" The skeleton shouted. "Why do you say that, Mr. Moose?" Fran asked. "Mr. Moose? But I'm not a Moose! I'm a Deadleeworm!" He said. "Excuse me...? A deadly... worm?" (Y/n) asked.

"No, no! Not a deadly worm! A Deadleeworm! I don't go around killing creatures!" The skeleton shouted. "I just give back to the soil what creatures took from it and don't need anymore!" He said. "But we only see a talking moose." "Down here... creatures! Can't you see me?" They look down in surprise to see a tiny skeleton crawl out with long claws. "Oh! There you are! You are so tiny! Hello! My name is Fran!" Fran said. "Hello Fran! Can I ask, why did you touch the moose in the first place?" He asked. "Normally, only scavengers would touch dead animals. Are you one?" He asked. "Of course not! I was trying to see if I could climb on it. To reach the fireberries!" Fran said. "How about I take care of that, sis." (Y/n) said.

(Y/n) climbs up the skeleton, then uses the water from the can to put their fire out. (Y/n) takes out the knife and cuts a small branch of berries off, then climbs down the moose skeleton. When they continue to walk back, they stop dead in their tracks at what they see next. A giant black creature, eating what looks like Fran and (Y/n), and they looked dead. "Eww! I look completely deformed!" Fran shouted. "Why... why are we seeing this? It's not real. It's not real, right?" (Y/n) panicked. "Sis, I just had a horrible thought." Fran turned to her in concern. "What if... what if we're dead?" (Y/n) asked quietly, and Fran's eyes widened. "What if we died that night our parents did and none of this is real?"

(Y/n) asked, slight terror in her voice. Fran looked at (Y/n) with sympathy, as she has had similar thoughts herself. "Sis, we're not dead, I promise you that." Fran said softly. "Once we get home, we'll find Aunt Grace again, and be a happy family, okay? We aren't dead, (Y/n). Besides, if we were actually dead, we'd all be in heaven right now, not this place." She said. Fran smiled at (Y/n), and she smiled back. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to freak out." (Y/n) said. "It happens to the best of us." Fran said. They go back to Itward and Mr. Midnight. "Sir? We brought the fireberries, but they are not on fire anymore!"

(Y/n) said. "Magnificent! They will do just fine! Thank you very much, miss!" Itward said, then went back to fixing his machine. "Sir Itward? Here's the bucket full of water! We got help from the shiny insects!" Fran said, taking the bucket of water. "You mean the Luciferns? They are nice, yes... but only when you see them in this reality. They're very dangerous if you ever see them in the Fifth reality! They can burn you!" Itward said. "Wow! Burn us? Well, we haven't been into the Fifth reality yet!" Fran said. "I don't recommend it! What's reasonable there, may be the worst you'll ever experience. Oh! I forgot to thank you for the water! Thank you, Fran!" Itward said. "Ah, Fran! It's 2:34! The journey will begin! Let's go inside the machine!" (Y/n) gulped a little with her fear of heights. "How high is it supposed to go?" She asked nervously.

"I don't think it has any windows, so just pretend we're still on ground once we're in the air." Fran said, as she and the others walk in. "Okay..." (Y/n) followed hesitantly, and the door closed behind her. The machine shakes for a moment, then lifts off the ground. "It's 2:36! We have a great possibility of reaching the target in good condition!" Itward said. "We'll soon be on our way to the Third Reality! Are you excited, girls?" He asked. "Maybe we would be excited if we could understand more about the realities!" Fran said. "You'll soon understand!

The answers are not easy to recognize!" Itward said. "Huh! That sounds strange to me, sir!" Fran said. "What's that supposed to mean?" (Y/n) asked. "Time goes as it has to, in order for you to be alive!" He went to the control and began to peddle. "If it all happened now, you'd probably explode!" He looked back at them. "Are you telling us that the answers we're looking for will come to us when they want?" Fran asked. "Not exactly... You know what? I'd rather say: "Through time, you have to explore and experience, to understand! This means, the answers will come when you find them. Not when others tell you how or where to find them!" Itward said.

"Ah! I see! Well... I'm excited now! You woke up my curiousness!" Fran said. "You woke up my confusion." (Y/n) said. "That's the best thing you can do for yourself! Be curious and you'll always be amazed!" Itward said. "But now, Fran and (Y/n), we have to get things done! Talking won't take you home!" Itward said. "What things, sir?" Fran asked. "The machine needs some maintenance and I think you would do incredible work! Here are the fireberries and the water you gathered before!" Itward said. "What do you want us to do with them?" (Y/n) asked curiously. "You'll need them to get the water pump working again and the fuel mixed!

You'll find all information you need when you enter the room to the left! But feel free to enter any room you wish! I'll be quite busy fixing the Automatic Driver! But if you have something to ask, I'll be here!" Itward said. "Mmm... But we've never done anything like this before!?" Fran asked. "That makes it more exciting! Have fun, my darlings!" Itward said. "Alright! We'll go now!" Fran said. She pushes a button to a door, which opens, and her and (Y/n) walk in. They look around, and the room almost looked like some kind of science lab. (Y/n) walks over to the brown pump in the room, and fills it up with the water, then turns it on. Fran walked over to the table with cups and liquids. She saw a sign on the wall that read

It listed the liquids on the shelf beside the table. "Let me see..." (Y/n) glances at the list. "AFM is missing." (Y/n) puts the fire berries in one of the vases on the table, then pours each liquid into another vase. Just then, Itward came out. "Fran! (Y/n)! I finally managed to fix the Automatic Driver! Do you need help?" He asked. "Nope, I think we got it covered, mister." (Y/n) said. "Very well! Everything seems to be working perfectly!" Itward said. "Yes! Everything looks absolutely great! What should we do now, sir?" Fran asked. "Well... I wanted to ask you if you are afraid of rabbits?"

Itward asked. "Well, we know it's best not to follow one." (Y/n) joked. "There is a little rabbit in one of the rooms... And I'm... I'm deeply afraid of it! Would you like to help me get rid of it?" He asked. "A rabbit? I guess it depends on the rabbit, sir!" Fran said. "With all things we've seen, I can't just imagine one kind of rabbit!" She said. "Is it a chocolate rabbit? Or one with horns and killer eyes?" Fran asked. "You'll have to see it for yourselves! It's has a pink nose and blue boots! It's just sitting there! No blinking, no movement. It's staring all the time!" Itward said. "Is it staring there menacingly?" (Y/n) asked. "That was a bad joke, sorry." Fran laughed a little. "It does sound very scary, sir! But show it to us, otherwise we will never know!" Fran said. "Brave you are, dears! Follow me now!" Itward said.

They follow him into another room to see a small white bunny with red eyes on a shelf and Itward points. "There! See? It's just... sitting there! Isn't that a strange behavior?" He asked. "Are you kidding?" (Y/n) asked as she looked at him in disbelief once she realized it was a stuffed animal. "Would you please try to make contact with it? I don't dare to touch it!" Itward said, and (Y/n) face palmed. "Go ahead, girls." He said. "Alright, sir! I'll take the rabbit and show you there's nothing to be afraid of!" Fran said. Fran walked over to the toy on the shelf and Itward looked worried. "See? It's just a fluffy rabbit! Nothing to be afraid of!" Fran said. He then shoves (Y/n) in, grabs Midnight and closes the door. "Hey!" (Y/n) shouted angrily. "What?! Don't go! Mr. Midnight? This is not funny!" Fran shouted. "Jerk! Let us out!" (Y/n) pounds on the door to no avail. "Ugh..." "great. Now what?" They looked around the room.

Fran noticed a button, and out of curiosity, she pushed it, and part of the floor went up. They took it up to a roof, then saw a red sky, and two people looking ahead, their backs turned. "Are you...?" Fran asked, recognizing one of them. Their bodies suddenly fall apart and collapse in front of them. "Fran!" (Y/n) said worriedly. "Get away from them!" (Y/n) quickly pulled her back. Once they disappeared, they opened another hatch on the roof and went down. In the next room they were in, it was very dark. Fran turned on the light,

and they saw Itward and Midnight at a table with stuffed animals on some of the chairs, and a birthday cake. "Surprise, Fran and (Y/n)! Happy birthday!" Itward said. "Wait a second. It's our birthday?" (Y/n) asked in surprise. "Oh! A birthday party! Whoa! I thought you wanted to kill Mr. Midnight! You lied to us!" Fran said a little angrily. "We lied to you in order to keep your attention in another direction!" Itward said. "We wanted to surprise you, my dear Fran and (Y/n)! Come and eat cake!" Mr. Midnight said. "Alright! Thank you, kitty! You really surprised us! Thank you Itward, sir." Fran said.

They sit down at the table. "The cake is made of all ingredients you like! Mr. Midnight told me which ones! And! We have something very special for you! From all members of the ship! That means, all of us, naturally born or handmade beings! Here you go! Itward said. "I hope you find it educational!" Itward said, then gave (Y/n) the gift. "Wow! I love the wrapping! Can I open it now, please!" She asked. "Yes! Go ahead! Open it!" Itward said. (Y/n) opens her present, to reveal a black cat doll that just like Mr. Midnight. "Wow! A cat doll! Awww! Thank you so much, I love it! It's beautiful!" (Y/n) said. "It may give your eyes a new perception! You know? Like the Ultrareality!" Itward said.

"Wait, is that what happens when we take the pills, Itward?" (Y/n) asked. "Do we see this other reality?" He asked. "Well, it depends! Would you like some explanations?" Itward asked. "As long as you don't speak in more riddles." (Y/n) joked. "Look... What you've seen is a mixture of different realities.. And the Ultrareality is like an invisible room, where everything exists at the same time." Itward said. (Y/n) looked confused. "Come again?" (Y/n) asked. "For example, at this exact coordinate of time and space, we're having a birthday party! But in the Ultrareality other things are happening all the time. Slower, faster or just invisible to the human eye! It's because of time,

humans can define past, present and future. Defining things encapsulates reality! It gives humans a chance to understand their environment. You have a different perception of the environment! It's not linked to definitions. Do you understand what I say?" Itward asked. "I'm not sure, sir! I think, maybe! I feel a bit dizzy!" Fran said. "Ah! Hahaha! That may be the ship going up and down!" Itward said. "Blow on the candles now, dear! We are about to reach our destination!" Itward said. "You mean we are about to get home? Did you hear that, sis, kitty?" Fran asked happily. "Yes! We are about to arrive!" Itward said. "Really? Wow! How exciting! Alright... Here we go!"

Fran said, then she and (Y/n) blow the candles. Suddenly the machine began shaking. "What's happening?" (Y/n) asked nervously. "Oh, no! No, no, no!" Itward quickly runs off. "Oh dear! What's happening? Guys, are you alright?" Fran asked her cat and sister. "I'm alright! But I hope the ship won't break!" Mr. Midnight said. "You and me both." (Y/n) said. Itward comes into the room. "Guys! You have to help! I have to drive the machine again! The Automatic Driver was destroyed by the Kamalas! There is one left alive! You have to get rid of it! Find it! Fast!" He shouted. "How do we do that, sir?" Fran asked. "Water! That cleans the dirt! Hurry up now! Remember, it may be hiding from your eyes!" Itward shouted.

"Oh my goodness! Guys, I'm scared!" Fran said. "Me too, my Fran!" Mr. Midnight said, and (Y/n) snickered a little at what he said. "Let's go find the Kamala." She said. "Let's just hope that water destroys it too. And I think I know where we can get the water." (Y/n) said. They go back into the science lab and (Y/n) gets some water from the pump using the bucket from earlier. "I'm guessing we're gonna have to take another one of the pills in order to see this thing, right sis?" (Y/n) asked, and she nodded, then took the bottle out and took out three pills, giving one to (Y/n). They take a pill, then the room changes.

Blood is splattered on the floor, and a giant black creature with many arms and white eyes is at the left side of the room. "Hey buddy!" (Y/n) shouts to catch his attention, and Fran throws the bucket of water on the creature. It began to freak out, and runs off. "Argh! Don't run away! Where are you going?" Fran asked. They go to the roof, and Fran goes over to aim the watering can at him again, he moves to the left, and Fran still aims water at it until it flies off. "I think I finally got rid of the Kamala! I'm the best! I should go back to Itward!" Fran said. They go back to the control room. "Itward, sir! We did it! The Kamala is gone!" Fran said. "It's gone, yes... But it's too late, dears... I can't take you home.." he replied. "What?!" (Y/n) asked. "We are going down!" Itward shouted. They glance around fearfully. "No, please! Don't tell me this... It's not fair! Not fair!" Fran shouted. She crouches down and hugs (Y/n) as she cries. (Y/n) quickly comforts her, but tears prick at her eyes. "I will always take care of you, my dears..." Itward said as he walks over and hugs the girls.

~

"..And the ship was going down until it crashed! Everything was destroyed. The end." Itward was reading Fran and (Y/n) a story in bed. "But that is a very sad ending, Itward. Tell us another story, please." She said. "-Alright! This is the story of Fran and (Y/n) Bow and me. When they promised never to forget me or about the magic of everything!" Itward opened another book and showed a picture of Fran and (Y/n). They hug him. "Heehee! We promise Itward! We'll never forget you!" Fran said. "Good! Now, it's time to sleep." Itward tucks her and her sister in. "Expect me in your dreams, my friends." He said. Fran and (Y/n) smile and close their eyes.
