Chapter-17
(Manik later calls his PA and asks him to arrange a room for them in a hotel. After 15-20 minutes, as their room gets arranged, they reach the hotel and head to the reception. Manik talks to the receptionist while Riya stands away. They then go to their room, and Riya locks the door. Manik sits on the bed tiredly and removes his blazer.)
Riya- Zyaada pain to nahi ho raha naa Manik? Should I arrange a painkiller?
[Riya- It's not paining much, right? Should I arrange a painkiller, Manik?]
Manik- No. It's okay. Main theek hoon. And ye chodo and think about your clothes. I can sleep in this, but what about you? How will you sleep in this gown?
[Manik- No. It's okay. I am fine. And leave this and think about your clothes. I can sleep in this, but what about you? How will you sleep in this gown?]
(She thinks something but, not getting any idea, takes a sigh.)
Riya- I don't know. Abhi to koyi shop bhi khuli nahi hogi.
[Riya- I don't know. In fact, no shop would be open this late too.]
Manik- Let me ask John to arrange something for you.
Riya- Order something for yourself as well. And kuch khane ke liye bhi mangva lo. Lunch ke baad kuch nahi khaya hai tumne. And yes, order a painkiller for yourself too.
[Riya- Order something for yourself as well. And something to eat for us, too. You haven't eaten after lunch. And yes, order a painkiller for yourself too.]
Manik- Hmm.
(She removes her jewellery while Manik calls his PA to arrange the required things.)
Manik- Maine John ko bol diya hai. He will get the things delivered to us soon.
[Manik- I have told John everything. He will get the things delivered to us soon.]
Riya- Okay.
(Riya sets her hair, and Manik keeps staring at her. He moves his stare to her hair, which is till her waist, and they mesmerize him. But he is disturbed when the housekeeping rings the bell as the food has arrived. Riya moves forward to open the door, but Manik stops her.)
Manik- I will receive the order. You stay inside.
(Manik receives the food and other things and shuts the door. He then keeps the bags on the table. Riya then takes the clothes and goes to the bathroom to get changed. Meanwhile, Manik sits back on the bed, thinking about all that happened today at the party. He remembers the scenes where Riya stopped him from fighting and how she left the party with him without asking him to stop and stay there for his family and society. He then takes a sigh and speaks up.)
Manik- Because she knows about how bad one feels when the family plays games with you. And also because she wanted to take me away from the chaos as soon as possible. Because she is different. Because she is...
(Just then, Riya comes out of the bathroom after changing. She gives him a smile and keeps her gown away after properly folding it. Suddenly the clouds thunder outside, informing both of them about the rain arriving.)
Manik- I will just get fresh and come.
Riya- Hmm. I will dish out the food.
(He then takes his clothes and goes to get changed and fresh. But Riya gets worried, thinking about something after he goes.)
Riya- How will I sleep without the pills? Agar raat ko kisi nightmare ki vajhe se... no no no. Manik bhi hai saath mein. Should I tell him? But kaise kahu uss se? Aur bolungi bhi kya usse? I get nightmares and cannot sleep, so I take medications. Doctor ho kar main khud pills leti hoon. God!
[Riya- How will I sleep without the pills? What if, because of the nightmare I... No, no, no. Manik is with me too. Should I tell him? But how? And what will I say to him? I get nightmares at night and cannot sleep, so I take pills. I am a doctor myself, and I still take medications. God!
(She then looks at the weather outside and takes a sigh.)
Riya- Aise weather mein kuch arrange bhi nahi ho payega. Kya karu? Idea! I will try not to fall asleep. It's just a matter of a few hours. Yes.
[Riya- Even nothing could be arranged in weather like this. What should I do? Idea! I will try not to fall asleep. It's just a matter of a few hours. Yes.]
(Manik then comes out of the bathroom, and they eat dinner together. Later, a discussion is going on between them as they are about to sleep in one room together for the first time.)
Manik- Tum bed pe so jao main couch pe so jaunga.
[Manik- You can sleep on the bed, and I will sleep on the couch.]
Riya- Couch pe koyi bhi nahi so payega Manik. Look at its size and look at us.
[Riya- No one will sleep on the couch, Manik. Look at its size and look at us.]
Manik- John koyi acha hotel nahi dhund sakta tha? Damn it!
[Manik- Couldn't John find a better hotel than this? Damn it!]
Riya- It was an urgent situation, Manik. He gave you the best from all that he could arrange.
(He then thinks something and finally gets an idea.)
Manik- Okay. I have an idea.
(He collects all the cushions and pillows from the room and makes a barrier with him in the centre of the bed.)
Manik- Problem solved, right?
Riya- Bilkul. Ek raat ka kaam to chal hi jayega isse.
Manik- Come on then. Let's sleep.
(Manik lies on his side and switches off the bright lights. And by the time Riya lays down, it has already started raining cats and dogs outside. She tries her best to stay awake and even gets successful for around an hour but eventually falls asleep tired.)
(Both Riya and Manik are sleeping peacefully when the clouds thunder outside. Just then, Riya moves in her sleep as she is getting a nightmare about her childhood. She sees her 08-year-old self, locked in a dark room, crying and screaming for help.)
(A little Riya is banging on the dark room's door with her little fists as she pleads her parents to save her. The room is dark and raining and thundering outside, worsening the situation even more.)
Riya- Mumma Papa, please. Riya is sorry. Please khol do naa. Bohot andhera hai.
[Riya- Mom, Dad, please. Riya is sorry. Please open the door. It's dark here.]
Anita- You deserve all this bitch. Mana kiya tha naa maine ki meri friends ke saamne mat aana. Ab bhugto.
[Anita- You deserve this bitch. I told you not to come in front of my friends, right? Now suffer.]
Riya- Mumma, please. Main sorry hoon Mumma. Please, Mumma. Mujhe bohot darr lagta hai andhere se. Khol do naa, please.
[Riya- Mom, please. I am sorry, Mom. Please, Mom. I fear the dark. Please open the door.]
(The petite 08-year-old is shivering and sweating badly in fear, her breathing laboured and eyes flooded with tears.)
Anita- Ashwin isse sabak sikhana hi padega aaj. Iski vajhe se humari deal cancel ho sakti thi. 05 crore ka loss ho jaata humara.
[Anita- Ashwin, she needs to learn a lesson today. We would have lost the deal because of her. We would have suffered a loss of 05 crores.]
Ashwin- You don't worry. Mujhe pata hai kya karna hai.
[Ashwin- You don't worry. I know what to do.]
(Ashwin then opens the door of the room and quickly goes inside. A prominent smile forms on Riya's lips as she sees her father standing there and thinks he will protect her.)
Riya- Papa aap aa gaye. Mujhe le jao naa yahan se. Bohot darr lagta hai andhere se.
[Riya- Dad, you came. Take me from here, please. I fear the dark.]
(But Ashwin smirks and takes out a whip from his pocket. He then heads towards her, and she comes forward to hug him. And before she could even touch him, he pushes her down to the floor and starts beating her mercilessly with the whip, and Anita smirks as she hears her daughter's painful cries and screams standing outside the room. After a few minutes, Ashwin emerges from the room smiling evilly and stands on a side to show Anita what he has done with Riya. And Anita smirks, looking inside the room.)
(There inside the room lies an 08-year-old little girl in the middle of the room, with bleeding cuts all over her body, her body full of sweat, and her eyes full of tears. She cannot move an inch and is just crying. Her white skin has big red marks. Now she is shivering in pain and fear, terrified to the core. Anita and Ashwin leave from there, and later, some servant hears her cries and takes her to the hospital, where she was unconscious for 3 days straight because of the physical and mental torture she went through. She was burning in high fever in the hospital, but no one from her family visited her.)
(Currently, it is raining heavily outside, and Riya is shivering and sweating badly in her sleep, murmuring something in her sleep and crying too.)
Riya (clutching the bedsheet tightly)- No, please. Please, jaane do. I am sorry, please. I am sorry, Mumma Papa, please. Save me. Please.
(Riya whimpers in her sleep and cannot breathe too. Her crying and whimpers break Manik's sleep, and he looks around in sleep at first. He then looks at Riya to check on her, and all his sleep flies away instantly as he sees her in this vulnerable state. He immediately sits up next to her, all worried.)
Manik (worried)- Hey Riya, wake up. It's a dream. Sab theek hai.
(But she keeps repeating the same lines, again and again, crying in fear. He, not wasting any further time, takes the glass of water from the side table and sprinkles some water on her face. He again does that and sighs relief at seeing her reacting to it. She shuts her eyes tightly as he sprinkles water on her face.)
Manik- Come on. Wake up. It's just a bad dream.
(She then wakes up from sleep and sits up with a jerk, panting, sweating and shivering in fear, horrified to the core. She looks around the room in tears, afraid that someone will again give her pain. Manik looks at her sadly but doesn't touch or go close to her as he doesn't want to scare her more and wants to give her the time to return to reality. She is still mumbling something he cannot understand, so he softly calls her name.)
Manik (softly)- Riya.
(But her reaction shocks him as she gets away from him in fear, hugs her knees closer to her chest, and moves her head in a no.)
Riya (crying badly)- Please don't hurt me, please. I am sorry. Main bahar nahi aaungi Mumma please. Don't hurt me, please.
[Riya (crying badly)- Please don't hurt me. I am sorry. I won't come out. Mom, please. Don't hurt me, please.]
Manik (softly)- Koyi hurt nahi karega baba. Vo nahi hai yahan pe. Yahan bas hum dono hain see. Kuch nahi hoga.
[Manik (softly)- No one will hurt you, dear. They are not here. It's just us here. Nothing will happen to you.]
(She looks at him in tears and then looks around the room, feared.)
Riya (crying more)- Nahi vo yahin hain. Vo room mein band kar denge mujhe. Mujhe andhere se bohot darr lagta hai. Nahi jaana vahan.
[Riya (crying more)- No, they are here. They will lock me up in the room. I am terrified of the dark. I don't want to go there.]
Manik- Hum bilkul nahi jayenge vahan hmm. Par pehle meri taraf dekho. Look at me. I won't hurt you.
[Manik- We won't go there, hmm. But first, look at me. I won't hurt you.]
Riya- Nahi, you will go away. Sab chale jaate hain chod ke. Tum bhi chale jaoge, I know.
[Riya- No, you will go away. Everyone does. You too will go away ]
Manik- Main nahi jaunga I promise. Maine promise kiya hai naa that I won't go. I am here with you. Kuch nahi hoga, okay. I am here.
[Manik- I won't leave, I promise. And I promised you I won't go. I am here with you. Nothing will happen, okay? I am here.]
(She breaks down crying out badly, and he looks on sadly. He moves forward towards her and thinks about something for a moment. He then sits on his knees beside her and hugs her shivering body closer to himself, and rubs her back to calm her down by caressing her hair gently.)
Manik- Kuch nahi hoga. Main hoon naa yahan par. Everything is fine. Shhhh.
[Manik- Nothing will happen. I am here with you, right? Everything is fine. Shhhh.]
Riya (hiccupping and crying)- Please don't hurt me. It pains a lot. Save me. Please.
Manik (caressing her hair)- Shhhh. I won't let them hurt you. I will handle everything, okay? Don't worry, hmm. I am here.
(She now clutches his shirt tightly and hugs him with her other arm.)
Riya- Manik, don't go, please. Please don't leave me alone. I will do everything you say. I will... I will do anything... But please... (hiccupping) don't leave me.
Manik (hugging her more)- Shhhh. Main yahin hoon, Riya. Main kahin nahi jaunga I promise. Manik is here for you always, hmm. Main yahin hoon. Relax. Calm down. It's all okay. It's over. Shhhh.
[Manik (hugging her more)- Shhh. I am here, Riya. I won't go away, I promise. Manik is here for you always, hmm. I am here. Relax. Calm down. It's all okay. It's over. Shhh.]
(He keeps whispering sweet nothings in her ear and consoling her. Then, after some time, he picks up the glass from the side table and makes her drink some water himself. He then breaks the hug and wipes her tears gently.)
Manik- You okay now? Feeling better?
(She is still scared, so she just nods her head in a yes, looking at him. He then keeps his hand on her head.)
Manik (referring to her head)- Headache ho raha hai?
[Manik (referring to her head)- You have a headache?]
(She nods her head in a yes like a baby, and he smiles, adoring her.)
Manik- So main dabaa du sarr? Subha tak theek ho jayega.
[Manik- So should I massage it? It will get better till the morning.]
Riya (slowly)- Okay.
(He then gets away from her, and she quickly grips his arm.)
Manik- Main yahin hoon baba. Kahin nahi jaunga.
[Manik- I am here, dear. I won't go anywhere.]
(She moves her head in a no and hugs his arm to her chest.)
Manik- Acha come. Lay down chalo.
[Manik- Okay, come. Lay down now.]
(She then lays down on the bed while holding his arm in her grip, but he takes his arm back, and before she panics, he lays down with her and signs her to come to him. She moves closer to him and keeps her head on his chest while he kisses her head softly, to which she calms down. With one arm under her head, he then massages her head with his free hand, and she moves closer to him. Manik feels her relaxing, so he continues massaging her head. She keeps looking at him for a few moments but then eventually falls asleep, and he takes a sigh of relief at that. He looks at her for a moment and then kisses her head softly. He admires her with a smile and then falls asleep after some time.)
