Chapter-02
(Riya enters her cabin in the hospital and is setting up her things when Ridhaan enters her cabin.)
Ridhaan- Good morning, Dr Riya Dixit.
Riya (gaily)- Good morning, Dr Ridhaan Verma.
Ridhaan- So kya haal chaal hai? Milne aa gayi apne boyfriend se?
[Ridhaan- So, how are you? And you are here to meet your boyfriend?]
Riya- Not again, Ridhaan please. Ab kis ko mera boyfriend bana diya tune?
[Riya- Not again please Ridhaan. Whom have you made my boyfriend now?]
Ridhaan- Arey, your stethoscope, bro. Jitna time ladkiyan apne boyfriends ke saath spend karti hain usse double-time tu apne iss stethoscope ke saath spend kar leti hai. To mujhe laga shayad tujhe isse hi pyaar ho gaya hai.
[Ridhaan- Your stethoscope, bro. The time other girls spend with their boyfriends is the time you spend with your stethoscope. So I thought that maybe you have fallen in love with it.]
Riya- Hahaha, very funny. Jao yaar kisi patient ko attend karo. Mujhe subha subha pareshaan mat karo.
[Riya- Hahaha, hilarious. Please attend some patient RV. Don't disturb me in the morning itself.]
Ridhaan- Isko pareshaan karna nahi kehte hain, madam. Isse aware karna kehte hain. Kya hoga yaar tera Riya. Main naa tujhe pehle hi bata raha hoon ki main tujhe apni shaadi mein single entry nahi karne dunga. Mujhe mera jeeja chahiye bas.
[Ridhaan- It's not called disturbance, mam. It's just me making you aware. I am telling you that you won't be allowed to enter my wedding single. I just want my brother-in-law now.]
Riya- Kuch bhi haan. Pata nahi kon hogi vo jo tujhe pasand karke phasne wali hai. Aur....
[Riya- Seriously? I don't know who will get trapped by falling in love with you. And...]
(She looks at him but stops speaking when she finds him analyzing her face deeply.)
Riya- Oh hello! Kya hua?
[Riya- Hey? What happened?]
Ridhaan- Riya, you were crying?
Riya- What? No.
Ridhaan- Stop misleading me, okay? Tell me what happened. Is there some problem?
Riya- No bro. Everything is fine. Koyi problem nahi hai.
[Riya- No, bro. Everything is fine. There's no issue at all.]
Ridhaan- You know right that this is not the first time I have seen all these things- your eyes are red and puffy, you look worn in the morning itself, and minutes ago, you were grinning as if nothing had happened. Seriously?
Riya- Kyunki kuch nahi hua hai RV. Why are you getting so stressed?
[Riya- It's nothing RV. Why are you getting so stressed?]
Ridhaan- No, it's not okay. You...
(Just then, a nurse enters the cabin.)
Nurse- Ridhaan sir vo aap ke patient ke tests ka time hogaya hai. Aapko bula rahe hain.
[Nurse- Sir, it's time to perform the tests for your patient. They are calling you there.]
Ridhaan (to Riya)- This discussion is not over yet.
(He leaves from there with the nurse, and Riya takes a sigh of relief. She sits back on her chair and takes deep breaths to calm herself down.)
Riya (to herself)- Everything is fine, Riya. Calm down. It's okay. We are okay. Yes.
(She closes her eyes to calm herself down, and a few voices from her past reverberate in her mind, but she shrugs them off before they overwhelm her.)
Riya- Yes. I am okay.
(She takes a deep breath and starts doing her work to keep herself distracted. The whole day, Riya and Manik stay busy with their work. On one side, Riya is gentle to all her patients, while Manik is cold and domineering to his employees.)
(The whole Malhotra family, except Manik, is sitting in the hall and enjoying their family time.)
Mukti- Mom, it's 10. Aur aaj to Bhai subha 06 baje hi chale gaye the. Call him naa.
[Mukti- Mom, it's 10. And Bhai went to the office at 06 in the morning today. Call him once, please.]
Cabir- Exactly, Mom! He is not a robot, and he needs rest too.
Raj- Agar usse apni family ki fikr nahi hai to tum dono kyu stress le rahe ho beta?
[Raj- If he is not concerned about his family, then why are you both getting stressed?]
Cabir- Dad, please.
Raj- Main kuch galat nahi keh raha hoon. Vo bada hai naa aur responsible bhi hai. To usse bhi apni family ko inform karna chahiye. Ab nahi kehna tum dono ko kuch?
[Raj- I am not saying anything wrong, Cabir. He is elder to you and is responsible as well. So he should inform his family himself. Now also you have to say something to him?]
Mukti- Dad, please! Aap Bhai ke saath itna rude behave kyu karte ho? He is your son too. Aur unko bhi to unke Mom Dad ke support ki zarurat hai.
[Mukti- Dad, please. Why are you so rude to him? He is your son. And he too needs his parents' support.]
Neyonika- Usse kisi ki zarurat nahi hai Mukti. Usse sirf apni khushi se matlab hai.
[Neyonika- He needs no one, Mukti. He is just a selfish guy.]
Cabir- But Mom...
(Cabir's eyes stay fixed on the door as he sees Manik standing at the main entrance, his fists clenched and jaws stiffened in anger.)
Cabir (scared)- Bhai!
[Cabir- Bro.]
(The others look towards the door and stand up as Manik enters the house and stands in front of Raj.)
Manik (gritting his teeth angrily)- I seriously wonder what amount of satisfaction you get by degrading me again and again, Mr Raj Malhotra.
Raj- Kya galat kaha maine? Ye sab nahi hai tumhara sach? Tumse zyaada selfish insaan maine aaj tak nahi dekha hai Manik.
[Raj- What wrong thing did I say here? Is it not the truth? That you are the most selfish person, Manik?]
(Manik moves more towards Raj and Raj takes some steps back to stand straight. And Manik glares at Raj furiously.)
Manik- Aap mujh se bade hai, and of course... you are very sadly my father. But it doesn't mean I will stay quiet and listen to all your crap, Mr Raj Malhotra.
[Manik- You are elder to me, and of course... you are sadly my father. But it doesn't mean I will stay quiet and listen to all your crap, Mr Raj Malhotra.]
Neyonika (angrily)- Behave Manik! He is your father.
Manik (sighing)- Here, we start with this drama again. God, please! I am not interested in you guys' ridiculous and trivial family drama.
Neyonika- Manik, stay within your limits.
Manik- No, seriously, Mrs Malhotra. Aap sab ko ladna hai naa to ladte rahiye! But stop pulling me and my past in between! It is my life and not some bloody entertainment source, "Dad" ki jab mann kiya debate shuru kar di.
[Manik- No, seriously, Mrs Malhotra. If you guys want to keep fighting, then please do. But stop pulling me and my past in between! It is my life and not some bloody entertainment source of yours, Dad, that you can enjoy whenever you want.]
(Manik sarcastically calls Raj "Dad", glaring at him angrily while Raj too looks at Manik in a fury. Manik leaves from there to his room.)
Neyonika- You don't worry, Raj. I will talk to him.
(Neyonika goes after Manik to his room.)
(Neyonika enters the room and finds Manik removing his blazer and cramming it.)
Neyonika- Manik, you cannot talk to your dad like that.
Manik- He also cannot talk about me like this, Mrs Malhotra. To pehle ye sab jaa ke apne husband ko samjhaiye.
[Manik- He also cannot talk about me like this, Mrs Malhotra. So make your husband understand this point first.]
Neyonika- Main unhe nahi samjhane waali Manik because it is your fault. And instead of admitting it, you are arguing back. How amazing is that!
[Neyonika- I am not saying anything to him, Manik, because it is your fault. And instead of admitting it, you are arguing back. How amazing is that!]
Manik- Agar aap ko mujhe lecture hi dena hai to abhi nahi. I am dead tired right now and just want to sleep. So baaki debate kal continue karte hain okay? Good night.
[Manik- If you want to lecture me about all this, please don't do it now. I am dead tired right now and just want to sleep. So we will continue all this tomorrow, okay? Good night.]
Neyonika- You are impossible, Manik. Seriously!
Manik- Thank you so much, Mrs Malhotra. Now please leave.
(Saying this, Manik just lays down on the bed, without even changing his clothes or removing his adornments, and turns his face to the other side.)
(Neyonika leaves from there angrily, and on the other side, Manik lets out the breath he was holding, and a tear rolls down his eye and clenches his head tightly, his cervical pain unbearable. He presses his head to reduce the trouble, but it doesn't help, as his head is still throbbing in pain. He then uses all his leftover strength, gets up from the bed, takes some aspirins from the cabinet, and gulps them down with some other medications. He then lays down on the bed and falls asleep in minutes.)
(Riya enters her house and takes a sigh of relief as she finds the house empty. She gets herself a glass of water from the dining table and asks the servant to send her dinner to her room.)
Riya- Baaki sab kahan hai Rahul?
[Riya- Where are others, Rahul?]
Rahul- Mam vo sir aur mam ek party mein gaye hain aur Harshad sir ghar pe nahi hain.
[Rahul- Mam, your parents have gone to attend a party, and Harshad sir is not at home.]
Riya- Okay, thank you.
(She then heads to her room and, on entering inside, quickly gets fresh, changes to her nightwear, and lays down on the bed. She takes a deep breath, exhausted, and her head hurts badly. She covers her head with a pillow and tries pressing her head with it, but it is of no use. She then lets the headache be and later eats her dinner in her room and falls asleep.)
(Raj and Neyonika sit in the garden area, having their morning tea and discussing some deal.)
Raj- Ek baar ye deal ho gayi naa Neyonika to humare saare losses cover ho jayenge. And I will become the most affluent in our circle.
[Raj- Once this deal is completed, Neyonika, we will cope with all our losses. And I will become the most affluent in our circle.]
Neyonika- Of course, Raj! Aur iss deal ke cancel hone ka koyi chance hi nahi hai.
[Neyonika- Of course, Raj. And there is no chance that you won't get the deal.]
Raj- Ek chance hai. Aur ye itna strong hai ki humari saari mehnat pe paani pher sakta hai.
[Raj- There is a chance. And that alone is so strong that it can spoil all of our hard work.]
Neyonika- Kya chance hai? To usse khatam karo naa. Tum itne relaxed kaise ho Raj?
[Neyonika- What's that chance, Raj? Just eliminate it as soon as possible. And how are you so relaxed about it?]
Raj- Manik is that chance, Neyonika. And I know ki usse persuade karna sab se mushkil hai.
[Raj- Manik is that chance, Neyonika. And I know that the most arduous task would be to persuade him about this deal.]
Neyonika- Par ab karna kya hai?
[Neyonika- So what are you going to do now?]
Raj- Vo tumhe jaldi pata chal jayega.
[Raj- You will get to know about it soon.]
(Raj smiles viciously while a person is seen standing behind them and has also heard all their discussion.)
