Chapter 9 - Sharing Intel

I took a moment to lock eyes with each of the men right in front of me before exhaling sharply. They were about to learn far more about me than most people knew and more than was ever planned when Phil and I discussed this mission. I guess fair is fair though, considering I already knew far more about them than I should, given how long I had actually been talking to any of them.

"You have questions", I stated. I knew they did, they would have been crazy not to. I knew how Phil operated, he would have given just enough information to have them interested in knowing more, but he also knew how I felt about people knowing anything more about me than was readily available, especially when it came to my past.

"Rather than me sitting here and trying to explain it all to you and attempting to answer questions at the same time, I am going to give you direct access to my complete, unabridged files." I stated, grabbing my handbag and placing it on the kitchen counter to make it easier to search for what I needed.

Axel folded his arms across his chest, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Just how much about you is there that we don't know?"

"You are aware I am trained as a lawyer and was one of the Academy's finest in the courtroom?" They all nodded.

"And aside from being the niece of Dr Roberts and Mrs Rose, that was all you knew of my involvement?" Again, they all nodded, indicating I was correct.

"Then there is a hell of a lot you don't know. You really need to read the file before you decide if you want me to stay. I can make other arrangements if you decide, after learning everything, that you don't want me to stay." While answering the question, I had pulled a credit card out of my purse, as well as a mobile EFTPOS machine, USB cable and mini black-light torch and placed them all on the bench.

"What do you mean access to your full file? Corey found you in the system and all it had was what we already knew from Dr Roberts, nothing else. What exactly is all this for?" He asked gesturing to the items I had laid out on the bench.

"You have heard of a mobile EFTPOS machine before, haven't you?" I asked with a little too much humour sounding through my voice. I was hoping making a joke would help ease the tension I was feeling. It didn't.

"Back in New York I would run an early morning yoga class in the park. It was a more peaceful setting and meant my students were getting more fresh air and a peaceful place to practice. Carrying a mobile EFTPOS machine meant my clients didn't need to carry cash to participate in my classes and there was less chance of someone being able to steal it while I was teaching. When I left New York and returned to the Academy full time, it very quickly became obvious I needed to keep my information compartmented, with only one complete record, which I kept with me at all times. The same was done for all of our ghost agents. When I decided I would always carry my complete file, I wanted to make sure that no one else would be able to access it and a simple storage solution like a USB device, even when encrypted, wasn't secure enough for my liking. This made sure that it would be overlooked by majority of people, and even those that picked up on it would have a hard time working out how to access the data."

I could see Corey mulling over the information I had just shared, trying to make sense of it.

"Are you telling us that you modified the EFTPOS machine to work as an external storage device?" Corey asked me. I could see he was piecing together the information and was trying to make sense of it all.

"I did. You will need to connect it to a computer and it will take between 5 and 10 minutes to actually come up and register to allow you to start the process of viewing the data. The EFTPOS machine will ask you to swipe the card," I gestured to the card I had removed from my purse earlier. "You will then need to select saving account and enter the PIN. The PIN isn't a standard 4-digit code. It is 12 digits long and printed on the magnetic strip of the card. You will need the black light torch to view the PIN. Once you have hit enter on the PIN number, you have exactly 5 seconds to insert the chip into the machine in order for the data to be accessible."

"Wouldn't have thought it was possible to do that", Raven, who had been completely silent up until now, stated bluntly.

"Anything is possible if you know the right person", I responded. "While you are all going through the files, I am going to go for a run. I need to burn off some of the excess energy I have."

"Like hell you are, Kitty!"

I turned to face off with Marc. If I stayed in the apartment with them while they went through the information I would go crazy and take them all with me.

I made sure to keep my face expressionless and my tone neutral when I finally responded. "If I remember correctly, when you first moved into this apartment building, there was a recommendation to have cameras set up in the gymnasium, was there not?"

Marc scrunched up his face; he wasn't happy. "How did you know that?", he asked.

Instead of answering his question, I asked another of my own. "Did you follow that recommendation?"

"We did. Are you going to tell us how you knew about that?"

"I told you, there is a lot you don't know about me, including just how Academy I am. I am not going to stand here and tell you all of the information; that would defeat the purpose of me giving you access to my complete files. I would also be tempted to leave out certain pieces of information that you all should know before committing to help me. I will answer any questions you may still have once you all have gone through the files on that drive, but be forewarned, some of the photos and reports you will find will be confronting. Corey," I added as I turned to face the computer savvy twin. "I recommend you access the drive from a computer you are able to connect to your TV. The files are locked so you can view them, but cannot edit or copy them. It will make it easier for you all to read the information at the same time, unless you all would rather crowd around a normal computer screen.

"Now, unless anyone else wants to try and tell me I cannot go and work out some of this pent up energy, I am going to the gym!" I stated as I turned and started toward the door. Luckily, Raven and I had left my bags by the entryway since we didn't know where I would be staying for the night. As I reached the door I grabbed my gym bag and headed out.

Marc and Raven both made to follow me out, but Axel had grabbed Marc around the bicep, holding him back as the door closed behind me. As soon as Raven saw this, he stopped in his tracks, knowing there would be a reason.

"She is right", Axel said. "We need to go over her files before we decide anything. It sounds like she could be a high value asset and we need to know what we are getting into before we commit to this fully. I know none of us want to leave her on her own at the moment, but Brandon is already following her with the cameras on the tablet and Corey is bringing up the information so we can make a start. I get the feeling there is a lot of information to sort through, and some of it is uncomfortable for her. We don't want to force her to sit here while we read the intimate details of her life. How would you feel if you had to sit there and watch her read through the information on you?"

"Lets get this over with." Corey didn't sound impressed that he was about to go through someone's entire history, despite them Okaying it. He was the one to run background checks when the team needed intel on someone, but something had him wondering what was in there that could possibly change their mind about helping her.
