Chapter 37: Pain and Frustration

Never had I thought I would be so happy to see the large iron gates leading to the pack house. Even with Joshua supporting half my weight, it had taken us a good fifteen minutes longer than it should have to get home.

Once inside the gates, I asked him to give me a moment, regretting doing so when I stumbled to the ground seconds after his support was gone. Going to the medic would have been the wise decision, but my body begged and pleaded with me to stop. Exhaustion was one enemy even I was incapable of defeating.

"Joshua, what the hell do you think you're doing?" Griffin yelled. I didn't bother to move my head or open my eyes to look at him, to be honest, I wasn't even sure when I had closed them. But I didn't need to look at Griffin to know he was staring Joshua down. When Griffin yelled, which he rarely did, it wasn't something to ignore or take lightly.

"Ummm...sir?" Joshua replied hesitantly. When had he shifted back?

"Why aren't you taking him to the medical facility?" Griffin asked.

I wanted to tell him to shut up; my head was pounding, but even that felt too exhausting. The pain in my shoulder was dulling--that or I was just getting accustomed to it. My head, on the other hand, was still throbbing, and Griffin's loud mouth wasn't helping it any.

"He umm... asked me to give him a minute?" Joshua's words continued to come out uncertain.

'Seriously? You must be, by far, the dumbest alpha in the history of alphas,' Griffin snapped at me. It was moments like these I wished wolves had opposable fingers because I wanted nothing more then flip him the bird right now.

'Sorry, dad,' I replied, finally looking up at him. It still amazed me how someone as immature and fun-loving as Griffin could suddenly turn into my father.

'Sorry, my ass. I have half a mind to --'

"While you two lovebirds continue to stare longingly into each other's eyes, I need to find my brother," Izzy interrupted. I had almost forgotten she was standing there. Even though Izzy was joking, I could see the worry in her eyes. As she turned to leave I let out a bark--more a yelp, really, in attempts to get her to wait.

"Logan says not to get your panties in a twist. He needs to talk to you before you leave," Griffin said, shooting a stern look my way and continuing to say, "But not before he gets checked out by the doc.". Realizing I had put it off long enough. Slowly I pushed myself off the ground. There was no way I limp the entire way to the medical building. Instead, I began my hobble to the pack house so I could shift and maybe throw on a pair of shorts if I could manage it.

"Wait where are you going now? The doctor is in the other direction." Not bothering to answer, I continued on my path. The sooner I got to the house, the sooner I could get this over with. Both Griffin and Izzy followed close behind me. It didn't take long to shift and get some clothes on with the help of Griffin.

"What did you need to talk to me about?" Izzy asked once we were headed see Havers. She was looking at me so intently; I had to look away. I wasn't ready to say what I need to. How would I even tell her?

"Whatever it is I think it can wait until we get him some medical help, don't you?" Griffin asked, thankfully saving me from having to answer. Izzy only nodded, her eyes dropping to her shoes as we walked across the grass.

"Sorry," she muttered just before we reached our destination.

Entering the medical building, I was surprised to see a fully dressed Asher standing at the reception desk. He must've finally been released. Tiffany stood by his side, trying to support him while Asher continued to insist he was perfectly capable of standing on his own. I watched him impatiently tap his fingers on the oak desk, waiting for the receptionist to return.

"They are finally letting you out of this place, huh?" I asked as I limped towards him with Griffin's help, my right arm tucked closely into my side. Asher turned with a scowl on his face.

"Yeah, if the fricken recepti--" he stopped mid sentence. "What happened? Are you okay?" Asher asked.

"Yeah, I'm good. I just thought I would come to keep you company," I said trying to make light of the situation.

"Did you know this idiot was going out on his own to hunt for the Phillips kid?" Griffin asked Asher.

"That kid is my brother," Izzy snapped before Asher could reply.

"Did you?" He asked again ignoring Izzy altogether. Asher's eye flicked to me before looking back at Griffin. Typically, I would have interjected myself into the conversation, but what little energy I had mustered was now spent. It was taking all my effort just to remain upright.

"Yeah, he came to talk to me just before he left. How was I supposed to know something like this was going to happen?" Asher replied standing his ground. Griffin laughed a humorless laugh.

"Because the last time you were out in the woods alone things went so swimming for you, right?" Griffin barked.

"Griffin that's enough! How the hell is yelling at Asher going to help Logan?" Tiffany snapped at her cousin. I opened my mouth to agree with her, but instead of words coming out, vomit came in its place. As I continue to retch the contents of my stomach, Griffin's hold on me slipped causing me to fall on my hands and knees. The impact made my vision blur and a searing hot pain to shoot through my shoulder.

"Get Havers here, now!" Griffin bellowed.

"Logan!" Izzy screamed as my body went limp, and I finally collapsed onto the ground.
