Chapter 18: Maybe I Was Wrong
"Griffin is on his way back," I informed Asher. We hadn't moved from our spot on the couch. I was too tired to, and Asher seemed content with keeping me company.
"Where is he on his way back from?" He asked. It was the same thing I had asked Griffin though I received no answer. Griffin wasn't one to sit around waiting for answers. He was a man of action, but sometimes this caused him to act without thinking. Because of his take-charge attitude he made the perfect beta. Griffin wasn't scared to step up when I needed him to. At times, I wondered if he might have had a bit of alpha blood somewhere in his lineage.
"He didn't say, but something got him all riled up."
"Lately, it doesn't seem like it takes a lot to get him upset. That wolf needs to just go and find his mate already." Asher responded. I couldn't help but laugh at that. Asher honestly thought Griffin's sour mood was due him not getting any. I didn't bother to inform him that Griffin's short temper had more to do with his dislike and distrust of a certain she-wolf. "Did he even mention when he would be back? Doesn't that idiot know how dangerous it is to go running around alone half cocked with all these rogues around?" Asher said shaking his head in disapproval.
"The term idiot would suggest that he does not know," I laughed. It was dangerous, but I also had faith in Griffin's ability to take care of himself, and there wasn't anything we could do now. We didn't even know where he was. "I think I am good now and in desperate need of a shower." I pushed myself up and walked out the door.
Once I made to my room, I quickly stripped out of my clothes, throwing them directly into the garbage. There was no saving them. I padded over to my ensuite bathroom enjoying the feel of the cold tiles against my bare feet. I turned on the shower and looked at myself in the mirror. There were yellow bruises all over my body. As I stepped into the shower, I reveled in the warmth of the water flowing over me, relaxing my aching muscles.
It didn't take long for images of Olivia to take over my thoughts. Her smiling, laughing, even moments of her utterly furious with me. All of them made me smile. Even when we fought, which happened more often than I would like to admit, she still managed to look sexy. We were mates, but that didn't mean we agreed on everything, and Olivia was not one to keep her opinions to herself. She looked so cute when she tried to be angry, but I never dared tell her that. It would only earn me a reservation at Hotel Le Couch.
The smile on my face was quickly wiped away as the images turned to ones of her pale and covered in blood. I could see her face so clearly. The sudden change in the temperature of the water brought me out of my thoughts and back to my now cold shower. I quickly turned off the near freezing water and stepped out. How long had I been standing there thinking of my mate? Grabbing the towel from a nearby rack, I wrapped it tightly around my waist as the chilly air sent a shiver through me.
The lack of sunlight streaming through my windows as I stepped into my room told me it was much later than I had guessed. 9:57 pm according to my bedside clock. Deciding that I was too exhausted to get anything useful done. I threw on a pair of boxers and climbed under the covers.
"Just stay here okay?" I asked her. I knew she wanted to argue, but she stayed silent and instead nodded. Her eyes were full of worry.
"I can help," she said after a second passed. Her words made me smile. She always putting the pack before herself. Sometimes I thought she was more of an alpha than I was.
"I know, but I need to be selfish right now. I can't go out there and protect our pack knowing that you might be in danger," I told her hoping she would understand. Olivia smiled at me as her eyes filled with tears.
"But you want me to just sit here while you go off and fight. What if something happens to you. What if you--"
"Nothing's going to happen to him," Griffin interrupted from where he stood in the doorway. "He has me there, and you know how awesome I am." He had a huge smirk on his face as he walked over to me, patting me on the back harder than necessary. I shot him an annoyed look but couldn't prevent the smile taking shape on my face.
Olivia laughed with tears still in her eyes. What Griffin had said wasn't complete bull. He was probably the most skilled fight in Mountain Ridge thanks to the excessive amount of free time he spent in the training facility.
"Just bring him back to me in one piece, okay? I don't want to have to kick your ass in front of the entire pack," she joked giving him a quick hug.
"Yes, my liege," He replied bowing dramatically. "I'll wait for you outside," He said tapping my arm. I only nodded before turning back to my mate.
"Please, be careful," she said seriously. I walked closer to her wrapping my arms tightly around her waist.
"I will be. I promise. Wouldn't want to miss the chance to see if there is a little me growing in there," I said looking down at her stomach. "Or the opportunity to put one in there if there's not."
She slapped my shoulder playfully before kissing. I didn't want to see it as a goodbye kiss so much as one to show me what I had to come back to. Our lips moved gently against each others. I could taste the saltiness of her tears which were now flowing freely down her face. We pulled apart, and I rested my forehead against her's.
"I love you," I told her honestly.
"Prove it, come back to me safely and maybe try to keep Griffin from getting himself killed," she replied.
"I heard that!" Griffin yelled through the closed door.
"I will," I said laughing. "We'll be back before you know it." I gave her one last fleeting smile before closing the door behind me.
"Do you think she'll be okay?" I asked Griffin. I hated seeing her so upset. It made leaving her that much harder.
"Yeah, she'll be fine, and so will we," he said as we headed out f the pack house.
"Logan, where the hell are you?!?" I sat up lazily in my bed and searched my room for the source of the loud noise that woke me. It didn't take long for me to find my answer as Griffin barged into my room sweat dripping from his brow.
"Griffin?" was the only intelligent thing I could get out my mouth.
"You look better," he said, sounding calmer than seconds before.
"Thanks, I feel better. Where were you?"
"I went to find your little she-wolf and demand she tell me what she did to you." His voice was seething with contempt. I sat up a little straight as I wiped the sleep from my eyes.
"She didn't do anything to me." His accusation was annoying me and stirring my wolf.
"Maybe not, but do you know where I found that little witch?" I could tell he was censoring his words for my benefit. I knew he didn't like her, but the anger he was currently showing was beyond dislike. It was pure hatred. He started pacing in front of my bed.
"I found her in Crescent Moon territory, in the arms of Alpha Phillips to be exact," Griffin blurted out not giving me a chance to continue.
"You trespassed into Crescent Moon territory?" I had asked before the rest of what he said registered. She was with Phillips? "What do you mean in the arms of Phillips?"
"Well, I followed her scent into Crescent Moon, and it lead me directly to the pack house. When I looked into one of the windows, I found them in a tight embrace," he said finally stopping to see my reaction. My wolf was angry at Griffin. He was sure that it wasn't true. I, on the other hand, didn't know what to think. She was adamant on how much she hated alphas. Yet, she left one only to run into the arms of another and Phillips of all people. She was in the arms of a married man, who was trying to take my pack from me. Maybe Griffin's instincts were right about her.
