You grab something.

Your disappointment knows no bounds. It's a fresh onion that too; Himeko must've dropped it while bringing produce that morning.

The roar of the albino cougar touches your ears and turns you around to face its source. It's as visible as rock salt in a coal mine in the shadows of the maples, oaks and birches, dappled with the golden rays of sunlight coming through the canopy. Its magenta eyes glitter with the excitement of the hunt.

But it doesn't come bounding to pounce on you and eat you. It simply lies down on the forest floor far away, and enjoys the bed of autumn leaves spread on the forest floor. You conclude that it has had a meal, and is therefore not hungry enough to hunt you. Cougars don't hunt for sport, they kill in either hunger or self defence.

And then it strikes you that onions are poisonous to cats, and that they hate the smell of anything from the garlic family. Quick as lightning, you drill a hole in the onion with a finger and let the smell pervade the atmosphere. The cougar growls in disapproval, and steps back into the forest. Within moments it is nowhere to be seen. You dab the rest of the liquids onto yourself and sigh in relief. Your dad had taught you that onions are toxic to cats because of it destroying red blood cells in their bloodstream on ingestion. Even a mythical cougar was reluctant to take its chances with an onion wielder like you.

You aren't sure that you're safe yet though, and you have enough time to grab your phone and call for help. Putting all your hope in animal control and guns, you drop the onion into your pocket and reach in for another grab.
