Chapter 5

                                               ~Jay~

As my new packmates chant their acceptance of me I look to the sky, are you proud of me, She? I heard the fast breeze of wind as dark clouds towered over the camp. I turn my head to Night who's attention also snapped to the sky, I lock my gaze with him asking if I was excused. He seemed to understand as he flicked his tail in approval. My shoulder has been doing better, I couldn't add pressure to it, but it was healing.

"Yo Jay!" I hear from behind me. I turn my head around to see the fox that had been assisting me in battle with that black fox earlier. I smile at the use of my new name as he jumps to my side.

"Nice fighting back there! Welcome to Firepack! Sorry that we've haven't been properly introduced," he chirps shifting his paws. "My name is Whisper, I'm training to become a fighter." I stifle back a laugh as Whisper puffs out his non-muscular chest.

"I'll show you around." Whisper says, his tail brushing over my shoulder. I grin to myself. I like this place already. I followed him around as he explained the traditions, rules and members of Firepack.

"And that's Twig. I've never been fond of her, kind of a badgerheart." Whisper whispered(heheh) gesturing to a tall gray She with dark paws and tufted ears. They seemed to have attracted her attention as she elegantly pranced towards Whisper and I, "Who's your mate?" Twig taunted. Whisper snorted as I ducked, feeling rays of anger radiate from Whisper.

"He is not my mate, Twig. We just met." Whisper spat, gritting his teeth.

"So?" She giggled her ear tufts swaying sassily. Rage boiled in my chest as I sprung off the ground to confront her, I probably looked like a kit confronting a fighter, my head only went up to here chin, including my ears.

"What's your problem? Are you always this annoying, or are you just being yourself?" I snarled as she rolled her eyes. "Yeah, roll your eyes, roll the, back enough and maybe you'll find a brain back there, some moon, have fun." I growled steaming off towards my den, Whisper tagging along.

"Wow," Whisper finally said. My ear twitched in confusion. "Twig lost to a small fox." He froze a second, Immediately regretting his words. I couldn't help but chuckle.

"Am I really that small?" I cocked my head. Whisper shrugged,

"You are small little guy." He muttered under his breath.

"What?"

"Oh nothing."

I rolled my eyes, the musky scent of rain filling my senses as the rainy clouds from above hit the Firepack camp, my ears flatten to my head automatically as I heard thunder crack in the air, my heart thumps heavily in my chest as I curl up trying to block out the sound of the storm.

"Jay?" I barley hear Whisper say. A paw prods me, making me whimper as I sit my eyes tighter. My fur stands on end as the sound of more thunder filled the camp, I hear rain drizzle and slap the ground, the water hitting the surface of the camp madly.

"Are you okay??" Whisper continues, most likely smelling my nervousness and fear of storms. I shake my head, my body to scared to speak. I feel the warmth of fur pressed against mine, as if on cue, I felt my tense structure mellow down, my fur starting to flatten back to onto my skin. I shuddered, I felt the comfort of a tongue lapping on my ear, I opened my left ear to see Whisper cuddled up next to me, his kind eyes looking into my own.

"T-thanks." I somehow managed to squeak out. Whisper nods,

"Night Jay." He says as I feel his head rest next to mine.

"Night." I said before sleep overcame me.
