Chapter 12
~Whisper~
Four moons.
Four moons since what Jay called, "the first scar."
Four moons since Dawn died, since my She died.
Four moons since the journey was canceled.
We are four moons older, smarter, faster and stronger.
Jay continued his duties as deputy. The death of Dawn left him shaken, he's been having nightmares without Joy and I. Our dreams slowly became reality as leaves flaked away. Jay's small, short structure now gave off a slim, swift, nimble one. For once his size taking advantage in pack life. Jay was now tokened a full hunter a moon ago. Joy became a full hunter two moons ago, taking deep pride in the position as a lead hunter, her tufty fur was now long and silky. Her fur how tinted with the smallest shade of dust. Me, however, I became a fighter two moons ago with Joy, my tall form became more menacing with my muzzle tinted with gray.
I let the breeze ruffle my fur as I sighed, I hear crunching leaves behind me.
"Beautiful night, isn't it?"
I turn around to be met with Jay's hazel eyes. I smile at him.
"Absolutely, your Majesty." I chuckle, bringing the joke from our early days. Jay grins, his tail flicking.
"Well, Sir Whisper, what brings you out here in the dark, shady night?" Jay asks poetically. Sitting down next to me to gaze up at the stars.
"I like to come out here and just remember how the forest was before," I trailed off. "All this." I gestured to an array of dry, dead leaves with my paw. Misfortune hanging in my tone. Jay sighs next to me, agreeing.
"You?" Curiosity overwhelms me. I watch as Jay shudders when a gust of wind blows, even though his pelt was thin, the shake wasn't from the wind. Jay turns away from me, his brown eyes not meeting up with mine.
"I just felt like I could I saved her." Jay says dryly. His ears drooping. I frown, he's got to get over Dawn. I touch him with my warm paw.
"Jay, their was nothing you could of done." I whisper to him, Jay snaps his head around, his eyes fierce but coated with grief.
"You don't know that." He growls, voice shaking with sorrow. "I just feel like I could of done better, I've could of ran faster, been stronger, fought harder." He whimpers, shrinking down, head bowed in shame. I shake my head.
"No Jay, death happens in life, it was Dawn's time to die. You tried your best about it. But now it's time to move on." I sigh, Jay doesn't stir, "Jay, it's been four moons. She's not coming back, I'm sorry."
Jay huffs at me, "What about you? Doesn't it hurt, that was your She. Are you just going to shrug off her death?!" His eyes gleaming with quick and short rage, the fire dousing out as I nodded,
"Yes, it does hurt. But death will happen in life, and there's sometimes nothing you can do about it." I retort firmly , holding my tongue from snapping back at Jay for his small outburst. Jay huffed,
"I guess you're right." He starts walking back to camp, the Deputy looks over his shoulder, fiery eyed gleaming in the darkness. "Good night." He says, pausing to think for a moment. "Sir Whisper." He adds on, darting back to camp.
"Good night your Majesty." I respond even though he is out of earshot.

"Go to the mountains, you will find them there,
Scout them out before the land runs bare,
Don't find them, and the world will be none,
If you don't find the pack of Sun." The wind whispered.
I groan, this again? Do they have to make prophecies so confusing? Why does it always have to be a riddle. Why don't the guardian foxes just explain what it means, I know it has something to do with the Silver Flame, but nothing else. I think with bitterness. I wonder what happens if I hunt.
My ear twitches. I sauntered out of camp, gazing at the dull, gray trees while deseased leaves crunched underbeneath my paws. I inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of mouse. Creeping slowly around to find the prey. There! I spring out onto the mouse, it squeaking in surprise and terror. I grasp the prey into my jaws, giving it a killing bite, satisfied as I feel it fall limp in my mouth.
I trot back to camp. Laying the mouse in the preypile gently. I gasp as I'm suddenly tackled to the ground. Letting out an oof as my back came in contact with the floor. I look up, knowing who it was.
"Why hello your Majesty." I greet Jay with a grin, he gives me a toothy smile as he leaps off me, letting my stand up once more. Joy is here too,
"Any weird propechies?" Joy cocks her head. I nod at her, her ears perk up, I take it as a sign to start.
"Go to the mountains, you will find them there,
Scout them out before the land runs bare,
Don't find them, and the world will be none,
If you don't find the pack of Sun." I recited,
"That has to be Sunpack." Jay inferences, "maybe they taking refugee In the mountains."
"Yeah that makes sense." Joy confirms. The three of us nod.
"I got one too." Jay confesses, tail flicking.
"Take it away." I grant, he gives me a flash of thankfulness.
"Follow the river, then go east,
Beware of the ones ready for a feast,
Quickly find the foxes of Leaf
Before they die from terror and grief." He recalls the riddle.
"Leafpack." Joy and I say at the same time. Jay grins and nods at us, we look at Joy, the white fox ready to present the riddle she received.
"Work together as a team,
Then remember the obstacles that can be,
Unite the packs, Fire, Frost, leaf and Sun,
To bring tomorrow and become one." Joy hums.
"Put this together and this is going to be a long prophecy ." Jay chuckles, Joy and I laugh along with him,
"I wonder how we can remember it." Joy says,
"We are the chosen three." I point out, I watch as Joy and Jay nod in agreement.
"I'm going to bed, we can discuss our....dreams in the actual morning." I stride my way towards my den, calling to the other foxes over my shoulder. They obey, trotting their way to their own dens.
I circle around in my nest, kneading the moss to make it comfortable. I drop down on the soft bedding. Sighing in content. My eyes drooping and closing as I feel asleep.

"Whisper! Whisper!" I hear Jay chant my name as he shakes me. I open one eye, taking a look at before closing it.
"Whisper! Joy reminded Night that we were the chosen three and about the dreams and how we are older and more mature. And if any other fox goes that isn't prophetic, they'd get hurt!" Jay yells into my ear, his voice ringing. I'm still muddy from the sleep.
"What?" I yawn, sitting up.
"Our destiny." Jay explains, "Night says we can go."
