Chapter 3

As soon as we both heard the loud noise, peridot shot up. I slowly scrambled to my feet. My midsection still hurt, but the pain was now a dull throb. Hunter, I thought. Peridot was slowly backing up towards me. This made me extremely uncomfortable.
Remember lapis, your only doing this because if she dies, Steven will never trust you again. If he looses that thing, you loose his friendship, I told myself. Just do it for him.
I picked up peridot by the scruff on her neck and ran as fast as I could handle (which wasn't very fast). I ran out of the barn and through a few bushes and over a hill or two, then finally arrived at the crystal gem's partially man-made connected cluster of dens. It was on a large patch of grass in front of a cliff and on a beach. Thankfully, Steven was in front of the dens, playing around in the sand.

"Steven we need your help. There were hunters near our den and we need to hide" I said. The words tasted odd in my mouth. They just sounded.... Out of character (I have made it a goal to break the fourth wall at least once in every story I write). I let go of peridot right before I said it. The very distant and quiet bangs sounded off in the distance. I could get a faint scent of human flesh.

"Hunters?!" He yelped. "Hurry! We need to get inside the den!". He lead us into the den of the crystal gems. The three already heard the loud, screaming shots of the hunter's stick. Steven lead us to pearl's room, where we were told to hide behind the small bit of waterfall in her den area.
Her den was mostly made of grey-blue Rock, and it was huge. There was a water fall that split the room in half, one side being bright with different streams and pools of water sliding through it like veins. The other side was darker and colder, with a large pool in the middle, connected to the waterfall by a small stream. The three of us hid in a dark corner.
It was now that I looked at what peridot looked like in detail. Her fur was short, and was a blonde-yellow color with a sort of pale beige tipping the fur. Her ears, lower parts of her legs, and tail were all very pale and creamy. In the light her fur looked a bit mint green, the color being more saturated in the dim light of sunrise and sunset. Her eyes were the color of bright green grass with a bit of sparkling frost to it, lightening the color. Like most foxes, her tail was tipped in white. Her eyes were impossibly large, with black rims. Her ears were wide, tall, and very pointy. She was much smaller then me, and her brush was longer and much less full and fluffy. Her small nose was black, with a tiny pink dot in the center. I quickly stopped looking at her after a bit and stared at the clear water. Soon a figure emerged through the crystal-like waterfall. It was amythest.

"All clear guys!" She barked. As soon as we stood up she noticed peridot.

"Oh hi peridot..." She said, her voice dropping and octave and trailing off at the end. She walked up to the small fox and quickly rubbed her head under peridot's. I let out a small, almost inaudible growl at this. For reasons I didn't know at the time, this made me feel a bit sick, made my throat burn and my coat crawl, as though it were being walked on by bugs. I instantly noticed this and it stopped, along with my movements.
Excuse me, lapis lazuli, but I thought you hated that thing... Peridot... And throat you stop burning this instant and never do that again whenever that happens.
Though, I still could stop myself from feeling sick to my stomach.
