Chapter 22-
We must attract the weird...

I walk up to Benny and Ethan, beside Rory, laughter filling the corridors, I bite my lip trying not to laugh.

"Nice look guys!" Rory says laughing, "Yeah, yeah. The shower cut out right before we could rinse. Our whole street lost water pressure." Ethan says.

"Wait. You were both in the shower at the same time? Look Benny I love you but-" Ethan cuts me off, "Different showers, Abigail." Ethan says annoyed, "Well actually I was in the middle of this deep conditioning treatment." Benny says.

I raise and eyebrow and the other two give him odd looks, "People aren't just born with hair this thick and shiny, all right?" Benny asks, "There's no one at this school who's got it worse than us." Ethan says.

"If it makes you feel better, my water shut off too." I say smiling, "But your hairs all... Normal." Benny says confused, "Well, yeah cause when it happened I just turned myself into a wolf and washed in a lake near where I stay, but that's beside the point! I'm trying to be nice!" I say smiling.

"Yeah well your attempt of being nice isn't working very well..." Ethan mumbles walking past me, I smile and laugh, he's really annoyed.

"Noodles. Cheap, easy noodles." The teacher calls out, holding up a bag of noodles, walking around, "Learning to boil noodles is good because some of you will be living alone for a long time." She says walking up to us, looking at Ethan and Benny - who had three noodles like wolverine claws.

Benny drops the noodles, I kiss his cheek, "Don't worry, I ain't going anywhere, and Ethan, I still wish you luck with Sarah." I say smiling, Ethan smiling back.

"Dude, this looks impossible! I knew home ec was a bad idea!" Benny says, "Benny. Calm yourself. We just need water." Ethan says, turning the tap, but nothing comes out.

"See? We're gonna fail noodles!" Benny says, a look of sadness forming on his features. Ethan and I look at the tap curiously.

I crouch down with Ethan and open the cupboard doors, I raise an eyebrow as I see the pipe torn and some green thing in it.

There's a beeping and Benny starts talking, "Oh as if! J. J. Abrams was referential without being reverential." He says, keyboard clicks starting.

"If you're still worried about failing noodles, you could help us." Ethan says, "He conjured nostalgia without being constrained by it- durfnerder." Benny says ignoring him.

The green thing starts moving and Ethan jumps back, pulling me with him, "Woah!" He says freaked out, I reach out and grab my boyfriends pants, tugging on them for him to notice.

"Benny, something moved down there." I say, "Babe, this is home-ec class. Food gets spilled around here all the time." Benny says, banging his hand on the table causing noodles to fall.

"See?" He asks, "It was probably just a rat." He adds, bending down to look, just in time for the thing to crawl down the pipe.

We all jump back, "Gentlemen and lady!" Our teacher calls, getting our attention, the boys get up and stand in front of the cupboard, I sit there awkwardly.

"Don't make me come over there. I am not as sweet as I used to be." She says, "Sorry, Mrs. Oppenheimer." We all say in sync, "And you," she says pointing at me, "Off the floor."

I cough and stand up In between the boys, "What the heck was that?" Benny whispers, Ethan shrugs and motions down. We all crouch down again and open the doors, "Wow." Benny says astonished, "The pipes are wrecked." Ethan says, I perk up realising Miss was behind us.

"What kind of school system is this?" I ask, "You'd think they'd have better plumbing." Benny adds, Benny and Ethan turn around to face the teacher, screaming and getting up immediately, me following.

"I weep for the future of the human race." Mrs. Oppenheimer says, shaking her head and turning to walk away, then the bell rings. We pack up and walk out, "Okay, what was that?" Ethan asks.

"And how did it make that hole in the sink?" He adds, "And why won't Mrs. Oppenheimer shave that one hair off her chin?" Benny asks, causing me to laugh. "Whatever it was, it wasn't friendly." Ethan says, referring to the thing in the sink.

"I know. It just points right at you, no matter where you stand." Benny says, I roll my eyes with a smile, "We better find Sarah." I say, the boys following me.

We walk towards a room, me with my phone out to text Sarah, then Ethan bumps into said person, "OMG, you scared me!" Sarah says, starting to walk the way we came.

"Look, we need to talk." Sarah starts, "No- we need to talk." Benny says, "Benny, we're the same we." I say, "What is it?" Ethan asks Sarah.

"Something terrible just happened to Kate in the bathroom. It's like something evil just-" Ethan cuts her off, "-came through the pipes?" He asks.

"I think whatever it was came to the home-ec room looking for dessert." Ethan says. The bell rings, "I found this. Instead of Kate." Sarah says holding up what looks like a tooth.

Benny takes it, "We need to go where the pipes go. Come on." Ethan says walking in some direction, the rest of us following.

"Maybe there's a reason the basement's off limits." Benny says as we all start walking down the stairs, then there's a loud bang causing us to jump and Benny to grab me in a hug, he lets me go and we start walking again, then the lights start flicking.

"Will is that you?" I joke although my voice is shaky, I can hear Benny laugh softly at my reference.

(Yes Stranger things comes out years after this but the shows amazing, shut up.)

Then the lights go completely out, Sarah gasps, "Whatever it is must have hit a power line or something." Ethan says getting a torch out, Benny doing the same.

"I don't like this." Sarah says, I had to agree, it was slightly horrifying, but we gotta stay strong, I mean we got two supernatural creatures and two smart... Less supernatural creatures....

"Okay, come on." Ethan says continuing to walk down the stairs, "Sure, dying young could be fun." Benny jokes, following Ethan.

"Benny, Sarah, we'll just take a look. You good Abigail?" Ethan asks, "Yeah, I'm good." I say, grabbing Benny's hand.

"That's what they always say in scary movies before they get eaten alive!" Benny yells quietly, I slap Benny's chest with my spare hand, "Oh shut up!"

We walk around a corner and examine our surroundings, that's when there's a loud clatter causing us to jump again, me gripping Benny's hand tighter.

"That thing is nature's greatest klutz." Benny says, "No that's me-" I'm cut off as Rory jumps out, "Hey guys!" He says, the boys scream.

"What are you doing here?" Benny asks, "Looking for a snack. What else?" Rory asks, "We thought you were..." Ethan trails off looking at something,  "THAT!" He yells.

We look over to see something green and glowing, do we attract the weird or does the weird attract us?
