Day 1
Chenle stared at himself in the mirror, quietly buttoning up his school shirt. Yesterday's incident weighed heavy on his mind as he got ready for school. He pulled his sleeve, trying to hide the trace of his impulsive actions from last day. The uneasiness picked at his heart once again. He put in the usual school items into his bag and picked up a packet of chips as his lunch for the day. He didn't bother with breakfast and stepped out of his apartment to leave for school.
Chenle hadn't noticed earlier but the morning sky seemed to have grown darker, rainclouds gathering up over the city. He sat in the bus, looking out the window, silently praying for it not to rain before he entered the school building.
'Just the day I forget to bring my umbrella...' He sighed.
Soon after, the first few raindrops hit the glass of the bus window, then a few more and within a few minutes, it began raining, quite heavily. Chenle slumped his shoulders.
'Great...' He thought.
The bus slowed down to a crawl at the next stop. Chenle carried his school bag on his head before stepping down from the bus and quickly walking under the shed of the waiting area of the bus stop.
"You can put down your bag." A new voice spoke from beside him.
Chenle was startled and looked to his side, finding a tall boy standing next to him, dressed in a similar uniform to Chenle.
"Huh?"
"I said, you don't have to hold the bag like that. We can share my umbrella, if you want of course." The boy gave me a small smile, his eyes twinkling in a strange manner.
Chenle stared at him, trying to figure out where he had seen this boy before. He looked very familiar, but Chenle's memory wasn't very clear. He pointed at the boy.
"Have...we....met before somewhere?" He asked.
The boy stared back at him for a while before letting out a small chuckle.
"Chenle.....we are in the same class."
Chenle's eyes widened.
'He's in my class? Really? Did I hit my head somewhere yesterday?'
Chenle shook his head, confusion written all over his face.
The boy interrupted.
"Chenle.....it is okay. We have never exactly talked, so you probably don't know me."
"O-oh...I'm sorry about this. What is your name, again?" Chenle inquired, sheepishly.
"Jisung. Park Jisung. Pleased to meet you." The boy spoke. "Now, shall we leave? School begins in another 15 minutes."
Chenle nodded quickly. "Yes, we should. Take you, Jisung, for the umbrella."
The boy opened his umbrella, holding it over Chenle's and his head.
"No problem." He said in a soft voice.
In that short walk from the bus stop to the school building, the two of them remained silent. Something seemed to be bugging Chenle about this Jisung guy. Chenle knew almost everyone in his class, at least their faces. Even if the two hadn't talked, Chenle finding both his name and his face unfamiliar was kind of odd. But then again, the guy did seem a bit familiar too. This was all too confusing.
The two reached the school building and Jisung closed the umbrella.
"Thank you once again." Chenle bowed slightly, in front of the boy.
Jisung waved his hand.
"You can go on ahead. I will put the umbrella in my locker first." He then excused himself and disappeared behind the rows of lockers. Chenle went the other way, taking the stairs to the second floor of the building.
Hie nerves were in jitters as he walked up the stairs. He had no idea what was waiting for him after he met that strange boy yesterday - in his bathroom.
'What did I get myself into?' Chenle groaned internally.
The door to his classroom was shut, his teacher could be heard speaking inside. Chenle's hand stopped on the handle. The dread he had been experiencing over the last week seemed to have come back into his mindspace, making him anxious. As he stood there contemplating what to do, he heard someone behind him.
"Chenle....."
Chenle almost jumped out of his skin.
"Ohh...Jisung....i didn't....hear you coming...haha."
'Did this guy teleport here or something?' Chenle thought, feeling a little uneasy.
Jisung simply smiled a little, his eyes carrying a strange light in them.
"Shall we go inside, then?"
Chenle gave a quick nod, pulling the door aside. Some students looked up from their work while the teacher told the two boys at the door to quickly settle down. Chenle walked to his seat, avoiding the row on the other side of the classroom like the plague. He quickly sat down, pulling his books out and focusing on his teacher's words.
Somewhere along the lesson, Chenle got distracted and found himself looking at the opposite side of the classroom. His heart went cold at the sight of the sole empty seat, some white flowers laying over the desk along with a framed photo of a pretty young girl. Chenle quickly looked back at his book, tears slowly gathering at the corners of his eyes.
He had been drowning in his thoughts before he heard a high pitched humming in his ears. He looked up, wiping his eyes. No one seemed to be hearing something so obnoxious, they all seemed to be paying attention.
Chenle covered his ears, trying to block out the sound and the humming seemed to fade away. However, soon, a voice spoke.
"Zhong Chenle-"
He wiped his head up to look at the teacher but he hadn't called Chenle's name.
Chenle sat their confused before the voice spoke again.
"This is the beginning of your fourteen days. Use your time wisely."
It was most likely that strange boy - the Angel of death, as far as Chenle knew.
'But what am I supposed to do? What is that task that I must do? Tell me that at least.' Chenle thought, frustrated.
It went silent on the other side but soon the voice spoke again.
"Every soul, during their lifetime, has certain obligations or a certain purpose that they are expected to perform and fulfil during that lifetime itself. That task had been assigned to them right at birth. Completion of such a task will result in the attainment of true satisfaction. For you it seems, you hold deep regret towards an incident that has occurred to an important person in your life and deep down, you have wished to be rid of those feelings. That is the only way you can find peace."
Chenle listened quietly, slowly
understanding what those words meant.
The voice spoke again, his tone somewhat soft.
"It will be alright. You are not alone."
Goosebumps rose at the back of his arms. Those words seemed to hold so much truth and reassurance.
Chenle didn't hear from the angel anymore after that. The bell rang soon after, signaling the end of the class.
He stayed seated, waiting for the next teacher. He tried not to think too much about what had happened but he couldn't help but glance at that empty seat. However, his eyes met a very unusual, as well as disturbing sight. In that empty seat, he saw a girl sitting, her body turned towards him and her eyes fixated on him. Her body almost seemed a little translucent. She resembled the girl in the photoframe that sat on the desk.
Chenle's eyes widened.
'Soora?' He couldn't believe his eyes.
The girl smiled at him, just like she used to when she had been alive. It almost seemed as if the Soora he knew had come back.
But within seconds, the figure dissipated into thin air and Chenle was brought back to reality.
"Chenle, could you please help me solve this problem from yesterday's homework? I cant understand this one."
The boy seated behind him suddenly called out to him.
"Oh yeah sure. Which one?" Chenle turned to him.
'Soora....I will try my best to help you...I'm sorry....I miss you...' He thought sadly.

On the other side of the classroom, a certain boy fidgeted with a crystal ring that he wore on his index finger.
"Are you satisfied now?" The boy spoke in a low voice.
".......yes." A voice answered from beside him. There, right beside him, stood that girl, Soora.
"Thank you again, Jisung...."
"No problem." The boy replied. "He will be fine, you don't have to worry."
The girl looked at him, sitting across the classroom, talking with another student.
"Now that you are here........i don't have to." The girl chuckled lightly.
The boy smiled - a silent reply.
