And It Was Easy

He was taller, taller than I remembered maybe. The knife was in my jeans pocket, but I was sure he knew it was there. He smiled when he saw me. His canine teeth were long, like a vampire's. I wish he had killed me right then. I still don't quite know why he didn't. Maybe he was still holding out hope I had really come for what I said.

He was holding an apple, and he offered it to me. He was wearing a silver ring on his pinky. I bit my lip, and said, "Um, hi."

Then I took out the knife, and he lunged.

And it was so easy.

I stabbed upwards. I'd been aiming for his chest, but I didn't account for his crouching. I could feel the impact when the knife went in, straight through his neck.

His head fell to the ground, his body limp. Blood spurted everywhere.

I screamed.
