Chapter 1
Stonekit's POV
I tried as hard as I could to sit still while my mother washed my fur. On a normal day, I hated getting groomed. But this is no normal day. Today's the day my littermates and I become apprentices! We could finally learn how to hunt and fight, and be loyal warriors of our Clans! I would never break the warrior code, not even once. StarClan will honor me for sure!
My father, Graysplash, was washing my sister, Spottedkit's fur. She was sitting straight, and even helped my father groom her. I was almost done with getting groomed. It never takes long, because my fur never sticks up or gets too dirty. It wouldn't be long now until my mother started on Darkkit, then my father on Swiftkit.
"Okay, Stonekit, you're done now. Try to sit still until Icestar calls the Clan meeting. Your fur mustn't get dirty", my mother meowed, gently. My mother was easily the prettiest cat in the Clan; her gray flecked fur was always groomed, and she had a welcoming shine in her forest-green eyes, something I would miss when I became an apprentice. She even had a pretty name, Flowersong. I was lucky to have such a nice and caring mother.
My mother had already moved on to my brother, Darkkit. He was squirming, like always. "Watch it!" He hissed to my mother. "Groom me harder again and I'll rip you to shreds! This time I mean it."
"Darkkit!" My father yowled, he stopped grooming my other sister, Swiftkit. "You do NOT talk to your mother like that! Apologize at once!"
"Why should I?" Darkkit sneered. "She's not the boss of me!"
"Darkkit, she's your mother. Show some respect to her. Do you want to be an apprentice or not? If you do, stop talking to your mother like that."
Darkkit rolled his eyes. "See if I care." He wormed out of Flowersong's grasp. "See you later, mousebrains", he mewed as he padded away.
"Don't get too dirty, please!" My mother called after him.
"Whatever!" Darkkit yowled as he padded away.
"I think he's the mousebrain", a voice muttered behind us. I turned around. It was Berrycloud. The dark brown tabby she-cat was staring at Darkkit as he padded to the other apprentices. "It must be an honor to have kits, and care for them, even if they don't realize you love them that much, Flowersong", Berrycloud looked somberly back to the clearing where Darkkit was sitting.
I stared at Berrycloud sympathetically. The first time I met her when my littermates and I first opened our eyes, she looked very intimidating. Though she has a small structure, she surely is an experienced warrior. The multiple scars on her nose had told me that she had gone through many battles in her warrior life, but she's much softer than she looks. Not long after she found out she was expecting her mate, Shrewfeather's, kits, he died in a battle against CloudClan, and he was also Flowersong's brother. Berrycloud was devastated, but eventually got over it because she knew she had to be strong for her kits. But it got even worse for her when she gave birth two moons ago, only to find out that her two kits had been born dead. Every cat had grieved for her two kits, my littermates and I had been able to see the kits. One was a brown-and-white tabby she-kit, the other a dark gray tabby tom. Berrycloud had named the the she-kit Mousekit, and the tom Nightkit. The warriors had buried the kits on the beach near the river, and Berrycloud still visits the kits everyday.
"Your kits are with their father in StarClan now." Featherclaw brushed her muzzle against Berrycloud's flank. Featherclaw had lost her mate in the same battle that took Shrewfeather's life, and her mate was Shrewfeather's brother, but from an older litter. And Featherclaw had been expecting her second litter of kits when he died. They should be born any day now.
By now all of us had our pelts groomed, ready for our ceremony. Even Darkkit had come back to sit by the rest of us to wait for Icestar to call the Clan meeting.
Beaming with excitement, I watched as Icestar came out of her den, with the Clan deputy, Bluepool, behind her. Even she had groomed her pelt, it gave off a silvery shine. She hopped onto the rock outside her den, and Bluepool sat at the foot of the rock.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath the Rock for a Clan meeting!" Icestar yowled. Almost immediately, the Clans piled out of the dens. Flowersong and Graysplash sat down at the front, their tails intertwined. The rest of the Clan piled behind. My littermates and I were the last to sit down at the foot of the rock, our pelts shining in the sunlight.
I sat next to Spottedkit. She looked at me with the biggest smile I had ever seen from her in my entire life. "I can't believe the day's finally here. I- I thought it would never come!" She admitted.
"I have called you all here today for a new apprentice ceremony", Icestar meowed. "These four kits have been waiting ever since they opened their eyes for this big day, and now they are six moons old and are old enough to start training for the service of their Clan. From this moment on, until they receive their Clan names, these four kits will be called Stonepaw, Spottedpaw, Darkpaw, and Swiftpaw. Stonepaw, I have decided that your mentor will be me." Icestar hopped down from the rock and touched noses with me.
All I could do was touch noses with her in return. I couldn't believe that my mentor was the Clan leader herself! Usually, the Clan leaders never take apprentices of their own. Now this would be something to tell the apprentices at Gathering's!
"Spottedpaw, is it your wish to become an medicine cat apprentice of SoulClan?" Icestar meowed, her eyes rested on Spottedpaw.
"It is", Spottedpaw meowed.
"Well, Spottedpaw, than your mentor will be Brackenclaw. Training to be a medicine cat is hard work, it takes a lot of memory and skill, some things that many cats might find too overwhelming. I'm sure you will be a great medicine cat in the future." Brackenclaw padded over and touched noses with Spottedpaw. "Brackenclaw, you were an excellent mentor to Rainpaw, and we wish she was still alive", Icestar seemed to choke up a bit. Stonepaw didn't blame her. Rainpaw had been Icestar's other daughter, but she had been killed by an AuraClan warrior, as she was trying to drag away her sister, Lakepaw, after she had been injured in that battle. "This will be your second apprentice, but I know you will not let me down." Icestar bowed her head to Brackenclaw and Spottedpaw.
Icestar turned to Darkpaw now. "Darkpaw, your mentor will be Eagletalon." Icestar's gaze rested on the dark brown tom. "Eagletalon, this will be your third apprentice, I know you will train Darkpaw to become a brave and skilled warrior in the future."
"I'll do my best, Icestar." Eagletalon dipped his head to his leader, then padded over to touch noses with Darkpaw.
"After a long time of thinking, Swiftpaw, I've decided that your mentor will be Falconwing." Icestar turned to the old dark brown tabby tom. "Falconwing, is it true that this will be your last apprentice before you retire to the elders den?"
"It is", Falconwing dipped his head then touched noses with Swiftpaw.
"I want all the mentors to take the new apprentices to tour the territory, they will begin their training tomorrow." Icestar jumped down from the rock. "Mudpaw and Lakepaw, are their new dens ready?"
"All ready, Icestar", Lakepaw responded to her mother.
"Spottedpaw's nest is ready in the medicine den, too", Brackenclaw added in.
"Thank you all." Icestar padded to her den.
I padded up to the entrance of the camp, waiting for my mentor to come over and take me out to see the territory. The sun was shining hard in the sky, there was no better day for the start of my path to become a warrior.
This chapter took me like, two days to write. 1338 words in the story, wow. I'm sorry if this is a bit boring, it's only the beginning of the story. I'll try to update as much as I can, but I'm not sure. You all know by now that I update at my own pace, so don't get upset if I can't update that much. I have a life outside Wattpad (wow, what a shock), Anyways, I hope you enjoy! Remember to give a vote or comment if you enjoy! Bye everyone!
