One

Samantha.

Samantha.

Samantha.

I woke up with a start. My head was beating like a drum and the feeling of falling had still left me a bit shaken. I rubbed my eyes a bit, trying to let them readjust to the unexpected darkness that my room-

Wait no. I wasn't in my room.

Where am I?

What is that smell?

I quickly got up onto my feet and assessed my surroundings. I didn't have to be that smart to conclude that I was in a sewer.

How the hell did I get from my bed to a sewer?

Sleep walking runs in my family but the worst thing I did was break my toe by walking into my dresser.

And I don't even know how to get into a sewer in the first place.

So how and why am I down here?

I begin to walk down the paved floors of my foul smelling surroundings. With each step, I felt a chill run down my spine, as if my body was trying to tell me that a certain danger was present. I tried to evaluate my situation in which I was currently in.

'Don't worry,' My conscious said to me, 'Just find the way out and everything will be alright.'

I turned down countless corners and still nothing to be found.

Then from a distance, I heard my name being called in that whispering voice again.

Samantha

Samantha

Samantha

I don't know whether run away or towards the sound of my name that was spoken in such a lovely manner. The whisper almost had a spell on me, drawing me closer to its trap. I walked through several more twists and turns. I had just realized how cold and damp I felt, my body must be finally aware of its new surroundings. I kept following the voice until I reached a spot.

I knew this place.

It came from a dream...

No. To be exact,

Nightmare.

How is this possible? Am I still asleep? Have I not woken up as of yet? Is this just all another dream?

I saw a light from up above.

No. This feels to real to be a dream. I just have to get back up to humanity and go home.

I slowly made my way to the ladder that led the way up to freedom of the dark, disgusting place.

I once at the top, I opened the hatchet. The light invaded my vision with an unpleasant feel that goes a sort of blindness for a moment. Once my eyes readjusted, my sense were aware of the busy traffic that was around me. I moved quickly to get up on my feet and out on the street. Cabs were honking their horns at me, signalling me to get off the road.

Portland Main was never this busy.

Portland Main also didn't have the Empire State Building.

Oh my god.

I sleepwalked my way to New York City.

Samantha

                           Samantha

                                                    Samantha

That voice again.

I couldn't describe it. I was like a moth to a flame. I was drawn to it in manner I had no control over.

I walked out of the busy streets and moved over towards the crowded sidewalk. I made my way through the mass of people.

Trying to lead my way through he mob, I bumped into a man holding a briefcase, causing in him to drop it. I snapped out of my trance like state for a moment to help the man pickup the loose papers.

"I am so sorry." I apologized to the man.

"Oh it's fine young lady! I should have watched where I was going." The nice man said.

I was helping him gather all his files and papers when out hands made contact. A volt of electricity went through my system all the way to shock my eyes.

A light flashed in my vision and suddenly, I was seeing quick blurry images. Things I really couldn't explain.

A black alarm clock. It reads 9:45.

Next, a calendar. The date reads today, April 25th 2017.

A warehouse. Right in the middle of nowhere. It was red bricked and crumbling and -

I saw the man. He was in a dark building with a gun gripped in his hands. He was telling something to someone but it was all white noise to me. Suddenly his chest caves in and his well built frame falls to the ground. Blood begins to seep through his white dress shirt and his eyes go grey.

The white light blurs the pictures once again and I return back to earth.

I let out a gasp and my breath suddenly ones back to me, as if I was holding it for an eternity.

"Ma'am? Are you alright?!" The man says trying to help me get up.

"Umm... I'm..." I didn't know how to respond.

What just happened? Did I have a seizure of some sorts.

"I think I'm ok now." I reply back. He flashed me a sweet smile and continues on his way down the busy streets.

I was still shaking. I was still trying to comprehend what I saw and how I saw it.

What is going on?

First I wake up in a sewer in New York City, and now I just witnessed, what I think was, a strangers death.

I could still hear the voices calling me. Calling my name, trying to lure me into its hold.

I didn't know what to do.

Follow.

Or be lost.

And of course, like the idiot I truly am,

I followed.
