Chapter 72: I'm just like you
"Arranged marriage...?" Jimin thought in his head. Those were words he never thought he'd hear from someone else's mouth. It was rare for him to find someone like this and he could only stay behind to talk to the boy. Just for a little while before Jungkook comes looking for him. Jimin felt like his world was spiralling, there was someone who understood him and his feelings on arranged marriages... So, Jimin turned around to look at the younger. "I... have an arranged marriage as well."
Taehyung had the same reaction as the man and just made a relieved smile afterwards. His smile was adorable, how his cheekbones showed when the corners of his lips curved and the way his eyes seemed to grow bigger and gleam into the smile. This showed that he too was happy to meet someone who felt trapped in a marriage too. "So... That girl you were calling, that is your wife and that boy outside is your boyfriend? Dating behind her back?"
"Apparently, yes." Disclosed the man and rolled his red hair back. Feeling tense from talking about it. "I never loved her... I was forced to marry her over-"
"Money? I've been there... I never wanted to marry him... But his family was rich. He brought me to Cozumel to see his father again. My family thinks this was a great idea. Pair me up with the first rich and gay man they see online. I didn't know what they were getting me into. Here's my story, I confronted my parents about my sexual orientation... Then they thought they could pair me up with any man that was gay too. Thinking I wouldn't fall in love on my own... They think homosexuals fall for the next guy or girl they see." Taehyung divulged the truth. Yet, this made Jimin feel bad for the boy.
"They never asked you what you wanted... That's the issue in every arranged marriage." Claimed the older in his mind while he listened to the boy continue.
"Then one day... They brought him in and showed me who he was. Jung Hoseok. He wore such an expensive outfit and held such a nice smile. I remember hating him because he was going to be the one I lose everything to! My first kiss, my happiness, my hopes, dreams and my innocence! I didn't want him... Behind closed doors... He would say such mean things. I could see no one with that much money was kind. Just greedy. He hid his greed and true self behind that smile and I just... Couldn't be free..."
"You're still with him. Why don't you leave him?" Jimin asked but the boy shook his head in response.
"I can't... Because after all these things he has done... I love him. I finally fell in love with him and soon we'll adopt in a few weeks. He cleaned up his act a while back but only gets aggressive when I don't wear my ring.. Then he apologizes and holds me close. It's complicated. So, surely yours isn't as bad as mine?"
"I... think it's not as bad as yours. I was paired off with my bestfriend from high school. As soon as my parents knew she was rich, they met up with her family and her family proposed a new deal to help them out with debt. I can't escape because of money. Money does so many horrible things to a person, enough to make them trade something or someone special for it. In this case, my parents gave me up because of that. I tried to talk to them, even if I broke down in tears in front of them, they grew silent and ignored me."
"You... Need to talk to all of them." Taehyung suggested, but Jimin's eyes blew round as he shook his head quickly.
"N-No... No... I can't! I'm saving that until I come back from my trip and talk to Yun-se about it." Jimin complained, yet, this only made Taehyung try his best to convince the man that he couldn't wait that long for something like this. It was the truth and he'll never be free if he stores it locked away forever.
"You need to tell them. You and that boy deserves something. Be the one that takes off the ring permanently. You can't wait anymore. Take a break from work here, go home and do it."
"I-I... I don't want to feel pressured.." Jimin whispered and cupped his face. "I can't... Don't pressure me.."
Taehyung then grabbed a hold of Jimin's wrists and looked at the older and scared man. "Sometimes you need a little push! One of these days, he's going to get tired of waiting. You'll go back and she'll miss you. Did you forget you have a wife to come home to and say words like 'I love you'? There's no waiting when it comes to love." Taehyung testified, just then, Jimin complied.
"I can't wait... I get that now. Jungkook doesn't want to wait that long. If he does, then he'll get tired and he'll leave me." Jimin said to himself, nodding his hand and only then, Taehyung released Jimin's hands and allowed the man to think on this more. "Thank you..."
"Anytime. I'll see you outside, I need to sing again." Taehyung added. He alone managed to pressure Jimin into confessing. He pushed Jimin to realize that Jungkook wasn't going to wait deep down. Even if he made a big deal about waiting, not everyone will wait for a miracle. Jimin had to meet him halfway in order for the two to be together even after the storm to see a rainbow across the clear sky.
Taehyung left the restroom and had Jimin think on it more. Jimin finally sucked it up and left the restroom after, placing his phone down and joining his lover now. The food was already set onto the table, Jungkook had a plate of grilled pork belly with red soybean paste right by it, white and lightly salted rice as a side dish, kimchi prepared after a day of marinating in spices and a bottle of cold Soju. Right across from Jungkook's dish was Jimin's meal of shredded beef that was soaked in the bitter soy sauce on the white side bowl, red stir-fried sweet potato noodles with pieces of vegetables diced and steamed to cook with the sweet noodles. Along with Jimin's dish was a cold, glassed bottle of coca-cola that had small drips of water running down the side due to how cold it was.
Jimin took his seat in front of Jungkook and pulled a smile, hiding away the stress of having to travel back to Korea so he could handle this alone or with his lover if he agrees with Jimin. Of course he would, but travelling back and forth made Jimin worry Jungkook would have second thoughts. "Hello."
"Well that took forever." Jungkook pointed out and continued cutting the pieces of the grilled and juicy slices of pork. "I thought I would have to ditch you. Doing the whole restroom-ditch thing."
"You're crazy if you think I am going to ditch you. I'm the one paying and I'll never ditch you, Silly." Jimin replied and sat down, beginning to eat with his lover. "After this do you still want to go shopping?"
"I just want to walk along the beach with you, reach home and take a quick bath. Then we can sleep." Jungkook stated and placed his hand over the promise ring box in his pocket. "But.. I'm more excited to see the beach at night with you..."
"Just imagining it seems so calming~" Jimin giggled and started to eat the strips of beef. "It's a beautiful night. Such a shame we have work tomorrow..."
"Ah, babe...don't even remind me of that! I have college work and actual work tomorrow. I would like to have some rest on our day off." The boy complained as he cut another strip of pork. Just then, Jimin took his chopsticks and slowly stole a piece of the meat while Jungkook smiled. Listening to his lover's childish giggles.
After the meal, Jimin paid with his credit card and got up to leave with Jungkook. From the corner of his eye, he could see Taehyung still singing while his husband was sitting right in front of the stage and gazing at him like the love between them was really true. They had a long way to go and Jimin could just look at Jungkook and feel the same for his lover. He had yet to come a long way with the one he called his lover.
The couple held hands while they walked home together. They walked along the shores of the beach, gazing at each other in silence and allowed their gaze to do the talking. It almost felt like a staring competition with Jungkook since he didn't want to blink until Jimin did. He was too competitive to even take a break from a little game. As soon as Jimin batted his eyes, Jungkook held a smile on his beautiful face while he looked away with a chuckle.
Jimin then scolded the boy, yet giggles filled him after. "Jungkook! Stop taking this as a game!"
"Me? Oh, I don't know what you're talking about!" Jungkook laughed and held Jimin's hand tightly. "Baby... Aside from that, how much do you love me?"
"Well that's a stupid question."
"Pardon?"
"Kookie, I meant to say, you already know that I love you soo much!"
Jungkook then stopped walking to look at his lover and intertwine hands with him. "I love you too, Baby. Do you really promise you'll be on my side?" With that being said, Jimin removed his hands from Jungkook's and hugged him, wrapping his smaller arms around Jungkook's strong torso before closing his eyes. The temperature was just right and the calming waves were perfect for this night to close off a lovely date.
"You know I would always be right by you... Or even in your arms forever. I promise." Giggled the boy silently. "I love my Kookie~"
"I love you too. I love you so much that I want you to be mine. I'm too stubborn to wait for a wedding ring..." Jungkook confessed and brought out the white ring box. "I... I want you to be mine, baby. I know I can't propose to you now.. But can you please promise to be mine until I get down on one knee?" Jungkook asked and showed Jimin the matching rings. "This one is for you." Jungkook said calmly as he took the beige ring out of the box to hold in his fingers so he cold slip it onto Jimin's right ring finger.
"A p-promise ring?" Jimin sputtered in tears already streaming down his face like rain from heavy grey clouds, yet, this was no storm... This was tears of joy. Rain that only sprinkles from above the bright and sunny day. "You must have wasted so much on these.."
"Every penny." Jungkook assured while Jimin giggled and nodded his head. "I promise." Jimin replied while Jungkook slipped the ring onto Jimin's right hand finger. He stepped in closer and pressed a kiss onto Jimin's soft and sweet plump lips. This was like a proposal to Jimin... He felt like he was able to relive an excitement of a proposal through the ones he heard from wedded couples. That day when he proposed to Yun-se, tears of sorrow fell from his eyes. Much more different than these tears he shed out of happiness from Jungkook's promise hr made to Jimin at the calm night beaches of Cozumel.
